I honestly think the hair typing system was meant to help us gain understanding and we let it divide us because we were told that having a loose texture was better so all of the sudden the 3's became the "nice" and "beautiful".
subbed for the low porosity realness! i just learned im low porosity & med/high density, after 5 years! after trying ALL of the methods, i finally realized working in smaller sections was The.Game.Changer. (6-8 sections, but about 4-5 subsections for gel application.) adding 30 min heat cap conditioners, "greenhousing" the night before wash day, using warm water through the *whole* process, and using diluted conditioner while detangling (before gel, cheaper alternative to hair milks) have completely, shockingly turned my wash & go from teeny-tiny poofy coils to curls that finally hang & show some length. dang, moisture be weird, y'all!
Thanks 4 keeping it real. I've been in my journey 7 months loving It regardless of the learning process. I also have low pros. As well. Lessons learned just wanted to say thanks 4 your voice. Your hair is lovely
Thank you for sharing what worked for you.i do have a few questions though. When you created a 'hair milk by diluting the conditioner to detangle before gel, are you saying you only detangle before you add gel so this mixture is your leave in, or this is before you shampoo? Also, how long do you take to work a product into each section? I'm not sure if my porosity but it's definitely not high porosity so I tend to pay attention to low porosity videos! I sometimes forget the rule of warming everything up and struggle to get my roots defined as good as my ends and midshaft. I also need to figure out my crown area's porosity as this is a completely different texture! How often are you shampooing and resetting?
that hair typing thing is so stupid. i still can't tell you what my "hair type" is lol but the hair porosity thing made a lot of sense! now i'm going to start searching specifically for low porosity tutorials. THANKS COUSINNNNN 😂
😂 But yes, girl! People get so mad at me when they ask my hair type and I say "low porosity".. but honestly, knowing your porosity is one of the most helpful things you can know!
I cant figure out my perosity .. i tried the cup of water thing and the first time i pushed the hair in the water and it stayed on the bottom for about an hour. But then i watched a video and the person didnt submerge their hair they just sat it on the top so I thought I did it wrong... So then when i tried tht the hair stayed on the top so im totally confused now 🙄🙄🙄😭
Kamaria Denny. Made sure that strands of hair you going to be using is free of any kinds of products (water rise first) then Pat dry. Then put the hair in a cup of water "DONT NOT PUSH DOWM" let it drop on it own. Seem like you are low porosity because it took so long to drop.
Finally Amber this is what I'm going to start telling people!😂😂cuz low porosity IS the actual hair type....my hair has the ability to look like the entire range of 3 AND 4 based on what leave-in i use!! I NEVER know what to say...but i know for SURE I'm low porosity😉
Yes!!! I have been soo frustrated by that curl chart. I still don’t know what I am!! My hair runs the whole chart!! The first day I applied products based on my low porosity needs, I saw a difference immediately!! So happy that people who know this stuff are willing to share!!!
Great video! I have 4c low porosity hair. It took me about 6 months to master my wash n go and I love my wash n go's. They are so low maintenance! I agree about the twist outs, you never really know how they are going to turn out and they don't last very long. My wash n go's last for 7 days. Learning how to do a wash n go has changed my hair game. I get soooo many compliments and people always say "my hair can't do that." But I tell them that their haIr CAN do this, but there is a learning curve, and you have to be patient to learn it. My go to gel is flaxseed gel. I make 3 month supply at a time a freeze it!
I have been natural over 3 years and during that time 90% of the time I wore protective styles (mostly braids and twist) with added hair because I had no clue on how to take care of my own hair and feeling ugly with my short kinky hair. I felt I looked like a boy and my spouse wasn't attracted to me (thoughts in my head). This summer I challenged myself to learn to love my hair and do a wash n go challenge. From June 1st thru Sept 1 I would wash my hair once a week and only doing a wash n go. Repairing the damage I created from doing back to back protective styles. Watching your videos have helped me thru this process. Even though we don't have the same texture hair. I'm a low porosity 4c girl. Watching how you care for your hair and techniques of your wash n go has helped me fall in love with my hair. Throughout this process I have seen my hair flourish. I haven't seen an extreme amount of growth with is fine, however I noticed because how healthy my hair has become. I experience little to no shedding. It may sound crazy but my hair texture has changed (or discovered under that dry brittle hair). I have even been able to encourage others and start them on their natural hair journey. Hair Mary (Amber) Thank you for what you do...
Awesome vid, such great points! One thing I noticed is you kept saying you would rather have high porosity hair, but I think you would much rather just have a normal porosity. Which is the best and healthiest goal! TFS!
I use to think eco styler gel was TRASH until I realized that I was going about my wash and go all wrong. One tip I want to add is to do your wash and go on soaking wet hair!!! Doing this change the game for me. I'm a wash and go fool at this point lol.
Same here. I hated it on my hair but then realized that my hair needed way more moisture under the gel or else it would leave my hair really hard or I would use too much.. I need a good product with moisture and slip under it
Yes that is very true. I sometimes style my hair in the shower soaking wet because my products absorb better in my hair that way. If my hair is even a little air dried my wash and go will frizz.
I love my hooded dryer for my wash and gos. I don't really like diffusing; my results look similar but doesn't last as long with diffusing. I nearly passed out today when I thought my hooded dryer died. Turns out the power went out from all the rain, I was so relieved.
Christian Parker I use the highest setting and air flow. It really depends on the thickness/density of your hair, your product choices and the type dryer you have for timing. I sit under mine for 45 mins to 1 hour;depends on what products I use. This may seem like a long time for some but it takes my hair 48 hrs to air dry/ more than 1 hour for diffusing. I have used my hooded dryer for years and haven't seen any adverse effects to my hair from the use of indirect heat. I have medium density/varying types of low porosity hair strands. Also my curls are similar to Amber's curls; just to give you an idea of my hair as I don't have a picture up. You just have to play around with temp and time to see what works for you. Hope this helps and wasn't too long to read.
This hit right on the spot! I am finally realizing(after over 1 year natural), that my tight curls are my tight curls and they are not going to look like anyone else's. However, they are defined, moisturized and poppin' for me. I am finally getting used to them . . . and I like it.
I resonate with sticking what you know the most. I usually do twist outs because my hair is a combination of textures along with heat damage that doesn't curl much at all. I think the key is knowing what products work for what styles.
I really like how you talk about watching videos and then like expectations and all that. I feel like thats a main problem. people watch videos and sometimes miss the split second that the youtuber says, this is what my hair does...because that means, THAT IS THEIR HAIR. yours is yours. yes. smaller sections, and love yours. and pay attention to your hair. this a good vid
I think the problem with the hair typing thing is the way people regard it and not necessarily the hair typing system itself. It was made to be beneficial to naturals, yet "we" turned it into something divisive. I do think the hair typing chart should be modernized to include porosity and density as well, because those things matter just as much, if not more than just your type of hair curl.
Mariama Bah I agree, but you can't possibly fit all possible natural hair curl types into 4 types (3c, 4a, 4c, etc.) In some parts of my hair, I have loose shrunken coils and in other parts I have loose, frizzy waves.
Naturally Emi yeah, good point. There isn't really a hair typing system for multiple hair textures per person. I have multiple types myself: 4b in the back, 3c at the crown, 4a in the front. So complicated.
I hear you...but two people could have the same density, porosity level and curl pattern/texture and their hair could STILL react differently to the same product....i get the hair typing system; i just don't think it should be regarded as factual information when it is strictly based on someone's opinion
I think it's inaccurate. There's way to many textures. I feel like it would make sense for the texture to classified with curl Shape. S curl, C/O curl and Straight. You can be 3b and have an S curl and 4b and still have an S curl. And the numbers should be how course hair is. It just makes more sense. Density, porosity and thickness should be more relevant.
I’ve heard these tips for wash and go’s before (not that I listen and follow directions too well lol ) EXCEPT the #1 tip. I’m only ~7 months into my natural hair journey and straight up LOVING YOURS isn’t stressed enough. Thanks cousin!! 🙏🏽
I mostly agree. I especially don't like when some of us naturals say things like xyz product isn't made for a particular hair type. Maybe that might be true to some extent, but it should not stop us from trying a particular product. If I had listened to that I never would have tried the kinky-curly curling custard. That gel and others with a like consistency is what my hair likes best. Eco is a favorite for many naturals, but my hair said "nope not a fan" so I had to keep searching. I use wetline extreme and its my favorite less expensive gel. I have figured out my hair type from a chart point of view but I don't let that decide what products I use. It is my texture, density, and porosity that decides that. Like you, twist out and braid out don't give me the best outcome. Either wash n go, or roller set look best for my hair. I'm okay with hair typing, because it isn't really the problem. The real problem is some of us as people when we seem to think that one hair type is somehow better or prettier than another one.
I totally agree. I mentioned in my 10 Secrets all Naturals need to know video, that I swore I had high porosity hair but I learned shortly after using high porosity products and methods that I was sooo wrong. Knowing your porosity is a great tip!
I am 3c 4a fine low porosity type curly girl 😀. I like hair typing. It gives me the restraint from being a wasteful product junkie!! Lol 😂. It also serves as a guide in what I can look for in products and somewhat results in wash & go's. yes it's not 100% but it serves as a guide. And we all need a helping hand 🤚 at times. So thx u for all your video guides.. I don't want to have to attend any product junkies meetings!!! 🤣
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you stress loving what YOUR hair can do and stop comparing it to other naturals' hair. Like when I tell people what I do, I stress that too; but people think I'm not trying to "share the secret" or I don't wanna help them. Natural hair is TRIAL AND ERROR. It took me cutting my waist length hair and starting over my natural hair journey to understand how my hair behaves. I use the same products religiously and have been doing the same wash and go routine for a year. Now they are perfect, and if not I know what I did wrong. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm glad I stumbling across this video. Love from Atlanta!
The sections reason is true because I will find that the ends of my hair are defined but not the roots. They just poof up. New subbie!! Thanks for the info!
I am so glad I found your channel!! I thought I was doomed for having low porosity hair and just dreaded having natural hair. Thank you for getting me excited to explore my natural hair again.
I'm not fully natural quite yet, still in the transitioning phase and plan to BC this summer. Anywho, this video was VERY informative. When I am natural, wash and go's I've planned to be my go to style. They SEEM simple and easy enough to do and I love the way they look. But watching all these youtube videos with wash and go's and hair typing has just become overwhelming! I've become obsessed with hair typing and stuff even before I'm natural haha! I think I'm gonna let all that go. Porosity and density do seem way more important than curl pattern, when trying to learn about your hair.
U just found your channel over the weekend when I decided to do my first wash in go. Your video made me feel so confident and you explain everything just like talking to my sister or BFF. Love your channel. Keep up the good work!
In the beginning I was very interested in what my hair type was, but I’ve learned that it doesn’t help do anything as it relates to my hair. And agreed, no two whatevers are alike, so it is only a divisive thing... I agree with you’re density and porosity statements as well. I am low porosity and high density... product selections , patience, and acceptance are the most important things that you need on this natural hair journey!
So I probably watched this when it came out and I just now broke down and figured out my hair type which is low porosity. I have changed all of my regimens (which have not worked with holding in moisture) and watering down my thick leave in conditioner, staying away from thick butters, and only using light oils with humectants and it has changed my life! I did not like wash n gos, but knowing your hair porosity will definitely help if you can never get it right. I wanna slap myself for waiting so long of not figuring out my hair type! Thanks so much for this video. I now do everything in the shower or use a cap when I get out to hold in that heat. Big difference!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm 12 months now transitioning and still am learning about my natural hair. You answered a lot of my questions, as well as, encouraged me. Great video
Girl! I have dense, fine, LOW porosity hair. I tried a wash and go one time but I have wanted to try again but didn't think it would work. I think i will now thank you so much for this video!
The hair typing.....I'm not really with that either. I think some naturals have hair that are between two. Like 4a and 3c, some naturals curl pattern may fall in between those two types. It's hard to look at a video or pictures and really "know" how another persons hair is. They know because they are the ones who are dealing with it. Porosity levels are so much more important.
I feel exactly where you're coming from. I have fine, low porosity, and it's a struggle when it comes to some styles, specifically twistouts and braidouts. Thankfully, I've learned that warming up my products before adding them to my hair works wonders!
Thank you, Amber. That's encouraging. I did a wash 'n go for the first time yesterday. I used a styling cream, gel, & a paddle brush. My curls weren't as defined as I wanted them to be....so I wound up doing a twist out. back to the drawing board. I have high porosity thick hair.
OMG! Thank u! That’s who she sounds like! I knew she sounded like someone but I couldn’t figure out who! It was driving me crazy! 😜😂 Great video btw! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I love all your tips, i had been struggling with wash n goes fir a while and just decided to revisit them, im still learning, and you have inspired me not to give up, your hair is gorgeous and Iove your southern draw 😘
Gurl preach cousin!!!!! From the beginning of my hair journey I was determined to figure out my hair’s porosity, so I bought a microscope to be certain. I know now that I have low porosity hair. I was lucky the very first products I used were successful. I learned to use a diffuser. Yes I like my hair to dry about 80% before diffusing and my main focus is to dry the scalp. I don’t like to sleep on wet hair. I did the research so my hair life would be easier. I watched several tutorials on how to do a wash and go, tried raking and realized that wasn’t going to work so I discovered shingling. Works amazing on my dense 4b-4c low porosity hair.
This video just help me soooo much! I just attempted my first wash and go ever, and I was believing that it was a fail, I almost washed it out. It hasn’t dried yet so I’ll see how it looks later. I used Eco style gel just like how you were talking about it in the video. So you gave me some hope! Hopefully I’ll like the turn out. If not still goin keep trying.
Trust me. You do not want the burden of high porosity hair. After you soak in the shower forever your moisture process will last for a week since your low porosity. For a High Porosity, it lasts for a day.
Hi-po gul here.. Sorry you feel your God given high porosity hair is a burden ...my twist out and pony's lasts for a week.. I always deep condition and clarify when I feel too much buildup is on my hair. BSL curly and waist length silk pressed out. Thank you God for my crown 👸🏾!
Also, there is a handful of HP creators with GORGEOUS hair. Don't let anyone make you think HP can't be healthy and manageable-if you're willing to do the work.👩🏾🦳👩🏽🦰👩🏿🦱
@@mkb5984 I was being over dramatic with the word "burden". I'm quite accustomed to my hair and would not trade it. But I certainly don't spend as much time on my hair as you do. All that deep conditioning, clarifying and heat styling is too much for me. I don't think I'm genetically disposed for waist length hair. But my hair is a little past mid back if I bother blowing it out.
I did a wash and go today and it was so pretty and moisturized for the first 2 hours. Then once it was completely dry the back of my hair turned brittle and dry. (I have low porosity hair) I was so annoyed because it looked so pretty and I have no idea where it went wrong.
I just discovered you..and the reason why I subscribed is because you don't SAY or DO what EVERYONE else is doing...thank you for these tips. I will keep this in mind...Is it SOFT or is it MATTED?
Thick, low porosity, high density hair. What works best for me is four to six sections, and then subsections for defining with my styling product. I use a leave in or a cream, an oil, then a styling product. I also air dry. I can use a lot of different products on my hair, but jellies and gels give me the best definition. My hair takes forever to dry. I have multi-textured hair, so I have to pick my products carefully and keep a consistent technique because what works for my loose curls won't always work for my tighter ones. I wash with a cowash once a week and with a shampoo twice a month or more if needed. I wear wash and go's almost exclusively.
OK, this is what happened yesterday when I tried a W&go. I divided my hair in 4 sections and I washed and conditioned them separately (so I can say my hair was 100% moisturized) when I was done with that, I started applying (also in 4 sections) the eco styler gel. The result looked good when wet. However, it started to dry out in a very weird way, like frizz and wet at the same time because of the gel. It is also true that I Immediately tried to dry it with a normal (small) blow dryer. The result the day after is a puffy afro hair with little defined curls. It's like a wannabe wash&go. I wonder how I am supposed to go to bed with the eco styler gel in my hair, because it does not dry out immediately. I think the possible mistake was that I did not apply the gel properly. Next time I will try with smaller sections. I've got the feeling that this style won't work on my hair unless I apply the gel almost hair by hair and ah ah... that would take me like the whole day. Not worth the effort and waste of time!! any one had similar experiences?
#1 Commandment to "Naturalists": To Thine OWN Hair be TRUE! I totally agree that hair is much too personal to take a one-size-fits-a-pattern approach. Like you, I have a 'low' porosity hair-type too and found certain products ineffective because my hair wasn't having any of it. What that meant for me was to be well-acquainted with MY hair, and not make my hair fit-in with whatever beauty-product manufacturers want me to believe. Thank you for sharing YOUR TRUTH with the audience on this video. The natural hair experience is a personal journey and process. I'm learning so much about me and my hair with every 'wash-&-go'! Ms. ECstreet :)
I am just so frustrated with my freaking wash and go’s! Like I keep trying different products and raking and shingling and I just do not know what to do! It never drys and it eventually just gets frizzy before the end of the day! I’m going to keep trying but this is just totally frustrating!
I have high porosity hair and I wish mine was low porosity. I guess we all think the grass is greener on the other side. So I'm just going to take your advice and be happy with what I have and work with it. I'll use your tips and give myself a couple of more weeks to perfect my wash n go and let you know how it works out. Thanks for the info!
Great video cousin.! I just recently accepted my hair for my hair i was definitely trying to use someone elses routine on my hair ! Thanks for posting and i LOVE your accent
Thank you so much for this video!! I just washed my hair this morning with the hopes to do a wash and go. It looked so frizzy that I ended up doing a twist out. I would much rather do a wash and go. Thanks so much for the tips and how to do it. Btw... I didn't realize I had low porosity hair but what you shared is definitely my hair... taking all day to dry!
Respectfully correcting that hair doesn't have pores, but cuticles. High porosity hair's cuticles are open which make it easy to absorb moisture. However, a person with low porosity hair can become high porosity when chemical processes such as color or relaxers are applied. It's just my two cents. I really appreciated this video. Thank you.
Love this video I have low porosity hair which is always hard to dry. I have given up on the wash and go but will try with the 15 min hood dryer . The diffuser advice was sooo helpful at least I have a back up plan. Hopefully this will help my wash and go. Thank you so so much!!!
Naturally beautiful yes! Ppl compartmentalize everything! When ppl ask what curl type i have i say curly... and when ppl ask under youtubers videos i say curly🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
i like it the categories helped me when i just started, especially since the first natural youtubers most people see are looser textured, id be really confused as to whether or not i was doing something wrong as to why i didnt have long curls. Not to mention the shrikage that loose textures dont experience, i would of though i broke my hair! The hair community was always divided, before 3a 3b and 3c when had "Good hair" and "Bad hair"
Gabyquietgirl whats important is like she said density and porosity... that tells you more than a number and letter bc when using that system ppl have multiple curl "types"
I don't like my wash n gos soft. I have hair more of the type 4 cottony texture and if I break my cast my wash and go will not last like I want it frizzes really easy. Eco styler olive oil gives me the crunch I like
I'm kinda confused on the porosity thing. I thought I had low porosity because I did the water test thing, where my hair floats on top of the water for a long time. But my hair does not hold moisture for a long time and it can dry really fast (on outs own like after I wash it) or really long(like with a braid out or twist out)...maybe I'm medium porosity...?
My hair is normal porosity and I experience the same things, so you're probably moreso on the normal spectrum. My hair dries pretty slow when I use gels but can also dry out very quickly if I don't add product in time or if I use cream stylers. I've learned that it's easier to combine techniques for both high and low porosity hair depending on the condition my hair is in and what I'm trying to do to it.
The Third Eye Journey thank you, I am learning so many thing about my hair and how confusing it is; like being thick yet fine or drying short and longer in the same section if hair. I'm just going to keep in messing around with it until I find the right regimen
I completely understand that feeling. I know when I started working with my natural texture the best thing I did was kind of ignoring the hair rules and boxes. I just tried new things as I went and adjusted as needed. Using that approach really allowed me to get to know my hair and develop a sense of confidence. Just take your time and don't stress too much over what your hair is or isn't. It will tell you what it likes and once you find a rhythm just stay consistent :)
Your hair could also have a different porosity throughout your head. The back of my hair is high porosity rhe front and sides are low porosity. So I have to moisturize those areas differently. So I say test the porosity at different section on your head.
6. Smaller sections 5. 5:06. Not using products specific for your hair type. 4. 11:00 calling it a fail before your done 3. 12:00 hair drying wrong 2. 15:30 Training your hair to do wash n go 1. 16:50. Trying to get other peoples wash n go results.
I have low porosity hair, every time I try a wash and go my roots never get defined. it's so frustrating!, but this video motivates me, I won't give up!
love ya girl...you rock and Your Curly is great! i am a high porosity...with some low spots (back middle of my head stays wet almost all day!), medium density (but i think it's low in my old age), fine hair. mastering my wash n go, your tips are very helpful!
thank you my only problem with wash and go is it takes forever for my hair to dry. one day I did a wash and go a 7am and my roots was still wet by 11pm.
Heyyy Cousinnnnn, Question: Do you wash and go in the winter? if yes will you do a video. I am concerned about wet hair and going out. the warmer months are fine.
Regina Brown She does. She has a winter wash and go tutorial on here somewhere. I’m sick of putting my hair in wigs all winter but I live in Milwaukee so, it’s safer that way.
Perfectly said. Ur awesome!! Question what temp is your drier settings. Also when you wear your wash n go with middle part is it free flowing to become a side part or is it set to a middle only. That's the only thing I sometimes struggle with is the versatility/movement with styling any tips?? ❤️
I don't know my dryer settings. Honestly, I've had the same one for 10 years. Whatever the highest setting on it is. I can switch parts. pretty easily, I just never do because I style my hair in whatever part I know I want to commit to. I would say don't put so much product on your roots if you're having movement problems. this helped me.
You should try Murray’s edge wax and eco for defining curls, just take a small piece of your hair apply the eco first rubbing it in from roots up then use the Murray’s edgewax and do the same thing, if your hair still doesn’t define add more murrays and rub it in. Once it defines add sprits of water to it to make it mosturizes but not that much water or it will melt off! Try this with only small sections do not try to do it with huge pieces. I have very course 4c hair it worked you should really try it ! Trust me you’ll thank me later !!!❤️
you've got a new subscriber!!! and please talk more about porosity. I have just gone natural but my hair does almost take 2 days to dry and wash and go's look 😣bad
Loved this video. I agree with you hair typing is not the be all just looking after your hair and having a set routine is more important.. Got good tips from you thanks a lot for sharing
I have done various porosity tests and i have a combination of traits for both high and low porosity so i guess my question is, how do i know what porosity my hair is? I’m just so frustrated because i wanna help my hair but i feel like i cant, please help
I have NEVER mastered the wash n go. My hair is low porosity high density I think my strands are thin to normal. But nothing ever seems to work. And I don't have the time for fails or even the time to let my dry. I just wear twists for a week, rewash, and retwist. Sometimes I'll wear a twist out for a few days but once my hair is out of the twists I lose moisture quickly
@Finally Amber Thanks for the great advise. Are you from the school of thought that WnGs can help with length retention if done correctly with a good regimen? I would love if you could do a video on that as I noticed you said you wear them 95% of the time. Im testing out a few things to retain length and I have been protective styling during the Winter months to see if I can retain length. My plan is to do WnGs during the warmer months and throughout the Summer. I love washing my hair as it makes me feel liberated feeling the water running through my hair. Been natural for a few years and still trying to figure out length retention. I've simplified my routine and started to trim/dust more for maintenance of my 3nds (something I used to avoid), moisturise/DC on a more regular regimen and doing my protein, henna and Olaplex treatments spaced out. I can definitely see an improvement but ready to get back into WnGs in the next few weeks. I have fine, low density tight coily hair and WnGs gives me the illusion of fuller, thicker hair. I've even done dry WnGs which work well for me too! Would love a video on anti-humidity products to combat shrinkage, especially on a night out! What advise would you recommend for using a blow dryer if you have no hooded dryer and diffuser and you don't want to air-dry? I guess I'm asking for tips on the best way to use a blow dryer for drying when you are away from home etc!!! Thanks for this video and will be re-watching, recommending and taking notes! Any other advise welcomed. Stay blessed.🙏🏾❤️🧡💛💛💚💙💜🖤👸🏾 #FinallyAmber
Hey I've always had problems with my hair being puffy at the roots my hair is thick but it's annoying when my outgrowth doesn't stretch with my midshaft! Could it be the moisturizer 🤔
Love this video,,I'm definitely taking these tips and trying them. Thanks for really breaking it down to cuz,, I have high porosity hair🤪 and it drives me crazy at times. This was helpful ✌ thanks for sharing 💜
Do you use gel in all your wash and gos? and is it bad for your hair (using all that gel). I love the way my hair looks after a wash and go but I don't want my hair to be like suffocating in gel.
All of this is so true and informative. Only thing is I really like the hair typing chart it helped me a lot esp in the beginning even though now I know just because someone has my similar curl pattern doesn't mean I can do what they do and get the same results. I just got a hooded dryer and was wondering if I could use it to dry my wash and go's cause that's all I wear and most times I don't feel like walking around with soaking wet hair so I'll be trying that next wash day. I seriously dislike twist outs and braids too cause like you stated my hair never looks full with those styles and I like my natural curl pattern better than the patterns those styles create. I've also felt like I have trained my hair in a wash and go because at first it was a serious struggle it was always hit and miss now I can pretty much do my routine with my eyes closed and know I'm going to get good results lol.
Thank you cousin I needed this video..... I have low porosity I believe fine hair strands and I’ve never been able to even get a wash and go to look decent but I’m gonna keep trying....
how do you do your washing goes do you shingle or do you do the praying hands method? also when do you apply your oil is it after you put your leave in or after your styler
Thank you so much for this video. I have been trying to perfect my wash and go but my hair takes 3 days to dry completely and by then my roots are puffy. I tried diffusing it but it made it frizzy. I am a 4c low porosity girl. I must get it right. This video is the best. I will save it in my favourite and keep watching it until I get it right. I love all your videos, they are packed with good informations. Thanks😚
I'm pretty sure that I'm low to normal porosity with a course texture. I haven't had much luck with wash and go's. It seems like it turns out tighter in the front. I probably need to do smaller sections abd start under a dryer.
Love it!!! But still don't really know my porosity level because it just depends on the type and amount of product I use. My wash & go starts off beautifully ..curls be poppin!! but ends up looking sooooo undefined and I have so much shrinkage it actually looks like I have a dry bush by the end of the day! Any advice?
It took me two n half years to master a wash n go! I have high porosity , thin hair. I found out by trial n error my scalp likes to b greased ( moisturized) overnight wit Miss Jessie's Baby Butter creme. When my hair is moisturize I get the best wash n go's. I have to layer my hair wit Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Smoothie n Eco Style Coconut Oil gel. I do have my hair sectioned off sub sections. I do air dry my hair bt my hair is high porosity so it dries quickly. My hair dries fast so have to re wet my hair when I'm doing my hair sometimes. Wit Miss Jessie's Baby Butter creme n my hair stays moisturized for days. I have tried other products like grease r Mane choice butter which they changed. N I CAN'T STAND THAT MANE CHOICE BUTTER product anymore. It was a waste of my $16!! I will find some kind of way 2 use it. I'm off my soap box nw.😃 I'm a wash n go girl 95 % , my braid outs r a hit n miss. which I don't like. So I stick with wut works with for me .
I honestly think the hair typing system was meant to help us gain understanding and we let it divide us because we were told that having a loose texture was better so all of the sudden the 3's became the "nice" and "beautiful".
This is probably one of the best natural hair videos I've watched in the past 7 years.
subbed for the low porosity realness! i just learned im low porosity & med/high density, after 5 years! after trying ALL of the methods, i finally realized working in smaller sections was The.Game.Changer.
Jovanna M sounds just like my hair and I struggled for over five years trying to figure it out..... and yes sections mean a lot 😊
Thanks 4 keeping it real. I've been in my journey 7 months loving
It regardless of the learning process.
Hi-po hair!
that hair typing thing is so stupid. i still can't tell you what my "hair type" is lol but the hair porosity thing made a lot of sense! now i'm going to start searching specifically for low porosity tutorials.
"Your hair's definition of definition may be something different than other people's hair." Truth and facts spoken. 👍👌👏
Wow, sounds like exactly what I'm doing. Back to back protective styling because I'm too scared to learn how to take care of and love my natural hair
Raven Destinee Yesss, I just found this out myself🙌🏽
So do you not towel dry your hair at all?
Christian Parker .
I love my hooded dryer for my wash and gos. I don't really like diffusing; my results look similar but doesn't last as long with diffusing. I nearly passed out today when I thought my hooded dryer died. Turns out the power went out from all the rain, I was so relieved.
nikkib Girl im soooo sorry 😂😂😂 good to hear it was just a power outage.
I just purchased one but have only been using it to deep condition. Can you tell me how long you sit under and what temp you use?
Hope this helps and wasn't too long to read.
nikkib Yes, very helpful thank you!
This hit right on the spot! I am finally realizing(after over 1 year natural), that my tight curls are my tight curls and they are not going to look like anyone else's. However, they are defined, moisturized and poppin' for me. I am finally getting used to them . . . and I like it.
I am going to get a hooded dryer for my wash and gos . I think going to sleep on wet hair messes up my wash and gos .
I resonate with sticking what you know the most. I usually do twist outs because my hair is a combination of textures along with heat damage that doesn't curl much at all. I think the key is knowing what products work for what styles.
I love love love that you call me COUSIN!! The word "cuz" has been slang here in philly since the 80's. Makes me giggle
Mariama Bah How do you test the density of your hair?
I hear you...but two people could have the same density, porosity level and curl pattern/texture and their hair could STILL react differently to the same product....i get the hair typing system; i just don't think it should be regarded as factual information when it is strictly based on someone's opinion
I think it's inaccurate. There's way to many textures. I feel like it would make sense for the texture to classified with curl Shape. S curl, C/O curl and Straight. You can be 3b and have an S curl and 4b and still have an S curl. And the numbers should be how course hair is. It just makes more sense. Density, porosity and thickness should be more relevant.
Love this video! I had to stop doing my hair like , other youtubers. I do what's best for my hair 😉😉 Thank you for sharing 🖒
MyNaturalMyChoice ... you said a mouth full. I stand on my values of natural hair.
Thank you
I’ve heard these tips for wash and go’s before (not that I listen and follow directions too well lol ) EXCEPT the #1 tip.
Yessss please do a video on low porosity hair
Aww. I love to read comments like this! Thanks so much, hun!
Agreed!
OMG This is the best low porosity video ever! I have been frustrated with trying to fit my hair into a "type". Thank you
I feel exactly where you're coming from.
Thank you so much for reminding me not to give up. My first wash and go didn't work, so I will take your advice and try again!
I found that eco styler with argan work better on my hair than the eco style with black castor oil/flaxseed.
Omg you sound just like Dime from love & hip hop
lol never heard that one before.
Shanny James omg she does lol
Hair Mary lmao i was so confused because i just got done watching love & hip hop then started watching your video 😂😂
Shanny James first thing I thought
OMG!
I had an AHA moment. I fail to section my hair like I should. Thanks for this tip. Much appreciated.
SOOO helpful!!! I never wear my hair in a wash and go because I feel that it just doesn't come out right! But, now I know why. Thanks!!!
I hope you get a good one in the new year! 🙌🏾❤️
Girl your curls are popping
I’m so glad you said something about sectioning hair.... that’s a game changer
Yes, twist out take too long for me to be a hit or miss lol...unfortunately I had not mastered a wash n go either which is why I am here 😀
Melody Thomas scoot over. Let’s both learn something here!
Great video cousin.! I just recently accepted my hair for my hair i was definitely trying to use someone elses routine on my hair ! Thanks for posting and i LOVE your accent
Very informative video! Thanks so much for breaking down everything.
I hate the hair type thing. It really does divide naturals and put them in categories. it's just really stupid to me.
The hair community was always divided, before 3a 3b and 3c when had "Good hair" and "Bad hair"
beau knows88 now I feel bad that i was gonna ask the hair type..lol but y'all are right
Adrianna - true
Gabyquietgirl whats important is like she said density and porosity... that tells you more than a number and letter bc when using that system ppl have multiple curl "types"
Best video of all times. Just what I needed. Thank you
I don't like my wash n gos soft.
The Third Eye Journey Thanks again!!! I definitely will take the time and learn
Your hair could also have a different porosity throughout your head. The back of my hair is high porosity rhe front and sides are low porosity. So I have to moisturize those areas differently. So I say test the porosity at different section on your head.
6. Smaller sections
5. 5:06. Not using products specific for your hair type.
4. 11:00 calling it a fail before your done
3. 12:00 hair drying wrong
2. 15:30 Training your hair to do wash n go
1. 16:50. Trying to get other peoples wash n go results.
HairMary Had to add this to my favorites!!!!! And that accent. Heyyyy cousin.
Hair Mary 👌 I will give that a try! Thx for the advice
Your hair is so gorgeous girl!! Love your tips!! I subbed!! 🌸
Can u show how to “break the gel cast “ properly please!
Hey I've always had problems with my hair being puffy at the roots my hair is thick but it's annoying when my outgrowth doesn't stretch with my midshaft! Could it be the moisturizer 🤔
I loved this video. No matter how old, it was informative. ❤
Do you have a video on your current wash and go especially including drying method?
Love this video,,I'm definitely taking these tips and trying them. Thanks for really breaking it down to cuz,, I have high porosity hair🤪 and it drives me crazy at times. This was helpful ✌ thanks for sharing 💜
Awesome video. Can you tell me how to & what you use to break the Eco olive oil cast.
Mayra Ramos put oil on your hands once your hair has dried and scrunch it through your hair
I would like to see a full video tutorial on low vs high porosity bc I’m sooooo lost and don’t understand which products I need 😩
2018 and here because I love your work prima
still struggling, but still trying. very helpful video. thanks 👌🏽
Do you use gel in all your wash and gos? and is it bad for your hair (using all that gel). I love the way my hair looks after a wash and go but I don't want my hair to be like suffocating in gel.
5 years later using gel for all my wash n gos and my hair is fine!
Make a porosity video plz
What hooded dryer do you use? Can you tell us how you personally use yours?
There’s a dedicated video on my channel all about my hooded dryer and how I use it 👌🏾❤️
All of this is so true and informative.
Please update the diffuser video!👍🏾
Thank you cousin I needed this video..... I have low porosity I believe fine hair strands and I’ve never been able to even get a wash and go to look decent but I’m gonna keep trying....
how do you do your washing goes do you shingle or do you do the praying hands method? also when do you apply your oil is it after you put your leave in or after your styler
You did a wonderful job explaining the wash and go 😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much for this video. Thanks😚
Love your curls 🌟
This video is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
