      You taking cold showers is hilarious when one of the channels I watch (Elsa Rhae & Barron) I've watched them take quick baths in streams while there was about 25cm of snow on the ground. Or taking a shower outside when it's -13c out.

    The reason why you were feeling tired after the night shower was because your body sleeps better in colder conditions! So because you took a cold shower and then went to bed, the shower helped with lowering your body temperature for bed!

    • @jamiesbooksandstuff
      @jamiesbooksandstuff 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Your body actually drops a few degrees around like 8pm to get you ready for bed. So taking a cold shower will jump start that process and make you tired :)

    Taking cold showers is easier if you slowly turn the shower down as you shower. I like cold showers in the summer and I start at a medium temp and then work my way colder. Cold showers have a lot of benefits that I have actually seen the results of. It might be miserable at first but it is totally worth it!

    • @spacefightertzz
      @spacefightertzz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nope. Easier to just jump into the cold shower. If ya bring it down slowly then ya will want to turn it back up at a certain temperature. Try living in a place where your water heater uses natural gas to heat up the water and then stop paying the natural gas bill. That might grow some hair on your chest during the winter.

    • @batintheattic7293
      @batintheattic7293 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      What I sometimes do is, after my hot shower where using soap is just easier (soap is more effective with hot water) I rinse off and then turn the temperature right down. I make myself stand under the cold water, for a few minutes, and I can feel my core temperature dropping and my blood pumping faster. My mother used to call these 'Scottish Showers'. Best of both worlds!

  • @F0NIX
    @F0NIX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +110

    For some years now I am doing a little of both: start with a normal tempered shower (not very hot). But the last minutes for rinse of soap I use cold water, but not super cold. I adjust the temp slowly until its almost not comfortable and stay there for a bit. I feel as you say more energetic through the day. Especially in the hot days of the summer.

    • @joanasanchez6764
      @joanasanchez6764 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i usually have colored dyed hair and it’s known that cold water is better for preserving colors or ‘sealing’ in the color. so i usually have a hot shower to relax my muscles, then at the end, slowly move it to being slightly uncomfortable and just let it wash over it. it definitely makes me feel energized

    I'm not diagnosed with depression, but my sister and other people in my family have been, and I can assume that most of those have also passed down to me. Bc of this, depression and unmotivation really hit me during 2020 with the sudden change. When I started taking colder showers it really helped motivate me and made me feel more productive in a way, and it also helped me do things that normally I couldn't find the energy to do. And on top of that it had really helped my sleeping schedule. So if you are also struggling with the issues I had, I really recommend cold showers! They don't have to be ice cold to the point where you are screaming (like in the video lol) but enough for you to handle. I've been taking cold showers for over a year now and it has really helped me get out of that depressive cycle, and with my anxiety as well! When you ever get a chance you should really try them, you'll definitely notice a positive change :)

    I have always struggled to take showers, they made me feel dizzy and sick and i even passed out in a couple of them. I found out i had a condition called pots and hot and warm showers wheren't okay for me anymore. So I switched to cold showers, and I've never gone back. I feel good, I don't make it ice cold or anything but i like it. I feel good, excited, motivated and happy. Its made showering so much easier and worth while. Its not for everyone but i definitely liked it. I loved this video. Thanks for making it.

    I did my first cold shower experiment about 4 years ago. I went back and forth for a while. Each time I started cold showers again, I noticed benefits. When I went back to warm showers, I noticed that my skin and hair got drier and felt less healthy. I've been solid on cold showers for 18 months now. I no longer expect showers to be warm. They're cold, full stop. Sometimes in the summer, the water never really gets cold enough to be refreshing, and that's a disappointment.
    Cold showers also save water and energy.

    I learned how to deal with cold showers when I was a child and went to camp during the summer. Before getting into the outdoor pool we had to take a shower/rinse and the water was always icy cold. Plus, over on the Oregon Coast, it can be one hundred degrees outside on the beach, and barely 40 in the ocean. You could also swim in the river during the cold raining season (so long as you wear a lifejacket when it starts running fast) then you're surrounded by cold water below and above. I also concur with feeling super sleepy at night after taking a cold shower/river swim. And when the water heater fails or the breaker switches, cold showers are expected. Proud of you for doing this willingly, it can be tough to put yourself through!

    I had a difficult breakup last winter and started to ice swim (I live in finland) and it really helped with my mood, it felt like at least i can do SOMETHING, this I can do, and it made me feel proud of myself. I wonder if it also has something to do with the primal fight or flight mode, maybe the extreme coldness takes it a way a bit so it makes you feel lest anxious and what not?

    I started taking cold showers because of this and I feel so nice and cozy after. I’ve learned that your body naturally drops a few degrees around like 8pm, to get ready for bed, so having a cold shower before bed can make you more tired. I actually sleep a lot better after a cold shower because of that.
    However, I work nights so my biological clock is backwards lol. I’ve tried taking cold showers “in the morning,” which, for me, is 9pm, and I was SO lethargic at work, even though I was awake. Because my body thought it was time for bed. So if I shower before work, I take warm showers. But if it’s after work, it’s a cold shower. I just feel all nice and comfy cozy, like I could curl up in bed.
    One of the TH-camrs I watch also takes cold showers and he said “the world is so much more warm and inviting when you’re done; it’s not cold and miserable, so you’re in a better mood” and honestly, he’s right.
