    Please use a jack stand with your jack. People have died when the jack failed and the car fell on them. Never go under a car without some safety back up. Great video otherwise. 👍👍👍

      Yes get out from under that car now and either use some jack stands or drive it up on some Rhino Ramps!

      I fully agree. I always use jack stands. More than one just to be safe. One time last year before we go our 2019 Elantra, I had a 2012 Ford Focus SE. I was trying to do the brakes, and the caliper bolt was stuck. I was using a breaker bar on it and I pulled so hard that I pulled the car right off the jack stands while my leg was under the car for leverage. While my wife was watching. This happened to be the very first time I put the tire under the body of the car. If I hadn't done that at the very least I'd have had a broken leg. On my Rav4 I don't even need to use the wheel ramps to do the oil, but sometimes I do for extra room. My ramps are metal, but even then I use the jack stands and put the tire under the side. I have wooden ramps I made for my Focus but never actually tried out. I'm betting those are probably the safest since it's pressure treated wood. 2 x 6 stacked and drilled together with screws all over the place to be extra secure. Even then I'd still use jack stands, tire, wheel chocks, etc.

      Warning! Use a jack stand to back up the jack. Put a wheel chock behind one of the rear wheels. Make sure the shift lever is in park . Crank that handbrake as far is it will go. MAKE sure that you find the proper jacking points under the unibody.

    I am changing oil on my 2019 Elantra SE - the most basic model out there and one of the last vehicles with standard transmission. I cannot find anywhere that tells me how to reset the service engine light after an oil change. I do not have cruise control, nor a menu button on my steering wheel. There seem to be many TH-cam videos now on changing oil on 2017-2019 elantras, but not a single one includes resetting the service engine light which I think is actually part of the job, as well as cleaning up after the job.

    ALWAYS coat O-ring with FRESH oil, i prefill the filter with new oil cuts out on dry starts and blowing the media out. i have seen filter media explode inside and rip to pieces from the sudden pressure. if you want to remove metal and see if there are bits and pieces DO NOT insert a magnetic drain plug. do this instead, get a small nickel sized neodymium magnet and attach it to the oil plug after oil change. pack of 5 costs about $10. can do 5 cars.

    Thanks for the video. You're right, this generation doesn't have a lot of videos. Probably because the car generally sucks to work on. Light changing the headlight bulbs. What a pain in the ass. Contrary to what those videos say you don't have to go through the wheel well or take the bumper off,. but, still bad design by Hyundai. This looks pretty straight forward. I'll probably go get the oil today and do it later.

      @@RatchetWrenches I was about to go buy oil, but then I saw a Groupon for an oil change for a place we've used before for $15.19. lol. That's most likely less than I'd pay for oil and filter. I'm sure I'll get to doing one eventually assuming we still have a garage when we move or concrete to park on (def not safe to jack up a car on asphalt).

      Lol my moms 2013 nissan juke I had to remove the bumper (not entirely, but enough to pop top half apart) to get to 2 screws to pull the headlights out. My kid's 2006 Civic I had to pull the battery and coolant reservoir out to change a turn signal bulb. They don't make cars easy anymore.
      One other thing is to check back of store receipt for deals. I have a semi synth oil change with free tire rotation for $20 at Big O tire from a Safeway receipt. My car calls for spec additive I can find only in pennzoil platinum synth since its a turbo, so I can't use it

    Good video! I have a 2018, in Canada, and on the air filter housing it says to use 5W-20 Shell or Quaker State oil. (In Canada, Quaker State is owned by Shell.) Do you think it would hinder my warranty if I used say, Mobil 1 Synthetic??

    • @RatchetWrenches
      @RatchetWrenches  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! And no I don’t believe switching oil would alter the warranty. As long as it’s the same viscosity! Synthetic or conventional will be ok but in all honesty this engine doesn’t need full synthetic id maybe do a blend if anything

    • @JVCO0807
      @JVCO0807 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Bob...
      Yes, you can as long keep using the same brand...
      Mobil Synthetic 5W-20 is superior... Shell/Quaker State 5W-20 oil is the recommended, because the additive in it , the breakdown is help to maintain the viscosity longer... testing show recommended oil for
      manufacturer vehicles. Try to change oil regularly will keep your vehicle run smoothly & longer-term along with other basic regularly maintenance.
      Enjoy... stay Safe... Do it right....
      Sincerely, Mr V.
      PS... Check your vehicle owner manual for oil, quantity and type (Synthetic 5W-20 Oil ONLY)

My 2020 elantra has that, and I'm trying to figure out if that's how the car came or if the paint is going bad there. So far I Believe the car paint is going bad and I'm ready to sand it down and repaint. Just want to be sure before I do all that work.

      Depends on which motor you have, here’s the specs and capacity. synthetic blend oil, preferred 5W-30 for the 1.4L and 1.6L 4 cylinder engines. The 2.0L prefers 5W-20. The oil capacity for the 1.4L is 4.4 quarts, for the 1.6L is 4.8 quarts and for the 2.0L is 4.2 quarts. Now for brand I recommend pennzoil or valvoline
