      Glad it could help. I recently welded a nut on to use a torque wrench as well.

    Subscribed, you have alot of technical info on this machine ive milles maybe 50 trees on mine mostly hardwood and i never tensioned my blade that much but that may be why some of my boards get a weird wavyness if i push to hard on it. Gonna try this!

    It helps a lot! Thanks! Would have loved it to just say that in the manual :) "keep the washer flush with the frame"

      Exactly lol. The manual doesn't say much about it. Happy sawing. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel

    Yes that helped a lot when I first watched mine is about 5 months old it’s been great but today the head started free wheeling going down when I fired the motor up to cut droop five spins before I stopped it adjusts red knob up and down to no avail wondering ur thoughts
    Thanks

      Sorry to hear that. Mine did that when I first got it because I wound it the wrong way. The brake wouldn't tighten enough to stop it. I don't think that's your case because you've been using it. The cable brake broke or can loose? I can't recall if that's really possible. I've removed mine. Too much oil or lube on the brake drum? Let me know what you find because that brake should stop it. Sorry I wasn't much help

    Jerry, Would have liked to see which way you turned the adjuster..

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the blade moves outwards turn it clockwise. If the blade moves inward turn it counter clock wise. That's what the manual says. I always forget and try it one way and it's usually the wrong way lol.

    Does the bottom of the gullet of the blade needs to be flush to the front of the wheel or is it a bit in? The back of the wheel also, does the blade stand out of the back of wheel?

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I make the gullet as flush with the front of the wheel as I can. I hope that helps. Happy New Year

      Thanks for the fast reply and thanks for your good videos. A pretty big part of my familly, my father, my nephew, watches you. We are some of your fans from eastern Canada. Thanks man! We are about to put the oil in the engine to get the OS27 going.🙌

    Great video, my new OS31 is tight with the 1st coil even with the frame Wish they had a nut on the handle so we could use a torque wrench. Can you do a video on proper use of the toe board?

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have the toe board but someday I'll build one. You really only are trying to center up the pith of the tree. Hope that helps.

    • @homesteadfanatic3492

      @@BigelowWoodcraft when I use it I end up with a can’t that has 2 different sizes at the ends if that makes sense.

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure I know exactly what you. Your cant is shaped like an hour glass? Or is it tapered? I've had problems with my last board often thicker at the end because it'll flex below the bunk when the blade runs over it. I now have a spare bunk I move to the end of the cant and put under it. Make sure you double check your setup and make sure the blade is running parallel to the bunks. The carriage has adjustment at the end of the cables. I hope I am on the right track with your problem.

    • @homesteadfanatic3492
      @homesteadfanatic3492 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BigelowWoodcraft if I use the toe board the cant is tapered but square

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You only use the toe board on your first slabbing cut then you lower it and flip log 180 degrees and make your second slabbing cut. Next you rotate the log 90 degrees and use the toe board again as needed to level the pith (center) of the log. Make the 4th slab cut after you lower the toe board again. That should make a nice cant.

    Hi Jerry so the goal is to get the bottom of the gullet even with the face of the pulley? Some say to get the back of the blade even with the back of the back face of the pulley! I take it that is what they reference in the manual? I have a lumber mate 2000 and it never came with a manual. and they want 50.00 $ for a manual and that doesn't work for me!
    So I am picking your brain on this! and as usual thanks for the info! Marc A G.

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marc, if the gullet is even with the face then the back of the blade is even with the back of the wheel on my particular mill. I never want the gullet to be too far back. The teeth then tear up the belts. I learned that the hard way lol.

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just looked in the manual. They do show the gullet flush with the wheel. They don't mention it, they just say "as per photo"

    Definitely going to try to flush washer advise. was having issues with cut wanting to track upward and flex blade and stop. will this work with the 0S23?

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it should. Also check your ceramic blade guides. You should have about .010 if an inch between the blade and the ceramic.

    Jerry are you having any drive belt issues? My friend has that mill ,hes going through drive belts pretty fast

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I don't. I'm on my 3rd and I got mill set up and running 2 years ago in October. Have him check the clutch alignment is tracking straight. The engine can be moved around to adjust it. Also if he has the blade running to far back it can cut up the belt. I'm using gates B84 belts
