A Dangerous Saucony Peregrine Flaw & Why I Stopped Making Gear Videos

Yes I join the illustrious gallery of TH-camrs making videos about why they don't make gear videos! And I talk about a dangerous flaw in the Saucony Peregrine 13s - and I suspect 14s - and how basically Saucony is ignoring that, and how the seller, Sportsshoes.com customer service was as good as I expected (i.e. not very, classic British service).
So if you are thinking of buying the Saucony Peregrines, ignore the fancy videos saying how ace they are for the duration of the video - and then they onto another brand for the next and don't actually TEST them , here's a honest review and issue from someone who has walked 100s of miles in the 12s and 60+ miles in the 13s. There is a serious issue with the Peregrine 13s and 14s, a very worrying one.
Also i have to say, I recorded this video weeks ago, well before the whole drama with ‪@JustinOutdoors‬ and Temu - so it's not intended as a blast on him. He actually declared that it was sponsored/paid promo in his video, and did a great video explaining why and walking back his support. • 🔴 Answering Your Quest... which I respect.
This is specifically aimed at those who I think are not declaring paid sponsorships - which could get them fined a lot lof money...cos it's illegal under advertising guidelines in the UK, US et al to not declare paid promo...and yes us 'influencers' do come under that umbrella. I suspect this will eventually happen and it will clean up Hiking Gear Tube, but until then, it's a Dirty Old Town, and a Wild West out there. Be careful!
And yes...I expect this video to totally tank, and was a nightmare to make with wind and then mic problems....but it's a video I feel that needs to be made. Saucony need to do better, we have to hold companies like this accountable....and also people have got to know about this issue.
I was lucky, I was on a trail that isn't far from help, and would have not been great if the thorn had gone into my foot with all that polluted flood water, but it would not be life or death. Whereas in remoter areas, a damaged infected foot could be.
So Saucony should not be claiming these are 'trusted on any terrain' or 'protection for your feet' when the current design guides thorns into the sole, with the V-diamond shape guiding them in, and the large size of that soft rubber unprotected area.
Maybe I was just unlucky...but I'd hate for someone else to be similarly unlucky and have more serious issues.
Also why Temu is a problem: • We Need to Talk about ...

Saucony Women's Peregrine 13 GTX Trail Running Shoe amzn.to/3PNXkoM
PLEASE get the 12s - they are WAY better, if less cushioned, but last longer, my new replacement 13s are squeaking already!

This is why I want to stay clear of reviewing products. I feel there would be a lot of dishonesty required to meet criteria of your sponsors 😬

This is a very serious matter... It is mind boggling they wouldn't address this issue asap 🤯 also, make whatever videos you like. Don't let the Negative Nellie's keep you from doing what you want. But if you don't want to do gear videos anymore and focus on the hikes then that's cool too 👍❤️

I will always talk about my gear within my hiking videos, but I am definitely wary of that Gear Tube solo video thing now, it's not going to be a regular thing from me, if ever - only special circumstances like this, maybe. I don't really want that sort of audience, tbh.

I took up making gear videos because I cant get out on the hills after a motorcycle accident. I was bored so decided to make videos and the only thing I know about is the outdoors...The gear vids tide me over until Im fit again.
I doubt Id ever get sponsored or given stuff to review but if I was I would be honest and only review it after using it in the field. As it is, the stuff I review is my own and, apart from what Ive bought since the accident, it has all been used and abused.
Yeah, the Temu vids, The plethora of Vern tent vids, the recent oex tent vids is ludicrous. Just because it is free doesnt mean you have to lie and say it is good.
So, like you, it is my own cash but so far it has been the gear I like.i seem to have got rid of the crap gear before I started YT.
Anyway, shoes. I like Salomon as they fit my feet but I hate how they discontinue my favourite model and then bring out a "better" variant which os worse than the old one. And Salomons also end up ripping your heelnwith a plastic bot after a while.
So, sorry about the ramble. I only came across your channel today and as you seem to be of the same mindset, Ive subscribed.

Welcome! And yes same.. Although I tend to still have mixed reviews on recent stuff, some good but say the Osprey Rook 65 surprised me at how bad it is for the price/reputation. Whereas Sawyer Squeeze is amazing, and just works.

I have had the same with the Saucony 12s with the plastic heel coming out after 12 months. Annoying but easily fixed with heel grips.

Most the shoe tubers I subscribed too do make a disclaimer at the start of the videos along line of I’ve been sent these shoes for purpose of review and have no editaroial control and the thoughts and opinions are my own etc but some don’t

Yeah the problem is when they hide it deep in the review, at the end etc or just as an aside. They strictly should flag it as Paid Promotion - and that should appear in the top left? of the video prominently. They never do that.
