    I agree the motive words are misleading. I had difficulties at work, and I am a very diligent, serious person. But if I'm bored, I have to search something mentally stimulating. Then I'll forget what I was supposed to be doing.

    This was so excellent. Thank for saying "you don't reward yourself for what you accomplish, you reward yourself for taking the time to work on it". That was phenomenally helpful. 🤩

    For me, I can see my daughter is on the overachiever side and so I explained my diagnosis, went through the symptoms, and she responded with THAT'S YOU!! I told her in 2nd Grade. I tell her, can you make sure we get out of here by 9:30? And she is extremely happy to make sure we are out of here on time. Can you make sure the oven is turned off, the water, whatever it is. She sees me going in a loop making a bigger mess and breaks the cycle gently, because she does love me. She can tell when I am leaving a trail and knows she needs to help more. I am a single parent, and even my ex worries about me if she's not here. It's not codependent, I do take care of her, And love to do so. My Mom said she had to do the same thing with her mother, but it made her very confident and competent as an adult. My daughter is still a serious overachiever, and she is sensitive to me. She knows i hate being vulnerable about this. I feel like she is a gift from God. She keeps me on a schedule, she helps with all the things that take me forever to do. And I return the favor volunteering her classes, and all the fun stuff. I feel like I missed out on being a child having such serious ADHD it was hard to have friends. Empower your kids to help if your child is like mine! She loves feeling helpful. And she has zero clue what a huge help she is. I have to find ways to hide my tears sometimes. 🙏

    I found a solution to the laundry thing that works for me personally. I got an open wardrobe, no doors, just sort of like a skeleton of a wardrobe (ikea) and LOTS of hangers. I hang up everything that I can, and at the bottom of the wardrobe there's a couple of drawers for socks, underwear and stuff like that. I even hang what I can on hangers when it's wet out of the washing machine, I don't have a dryer. So I have NO folding to do! How awesome is that :)

    I needed this! Thank you so much. I KNOW I have always had ADHD-PI since primary school. I always thought to myself what was wrong with me which lead to severe depression. Then came high school - needless to say, I never graduated. I hated school work. Hated waking (or trying) early in the morning. I remember thinking to myself, why are the teachers expecting the same from everyone, like it's all cookie-cutter. Like, say a teacher was comparing me with severe PI and a well-thorough neurotypical. It's completely unfair. School, or the entire world for that matter, is only geared for the neurotypicals. Everyone else will just already be set up to fail. Housework, eugh. Don't even get me started. People just don't understand when I say, "I want to do it, but my mind is blocking me!" I really do. I envy those that can clean up their house. I just cry why I can't do it. Then I get labelled as lazy or dumb.
    Anyway, I feel like I should show this video to everyone I encounter so they can better understand me because I feel I am living alone in this.

    Medication and lifestyle changes. Then, after a certain amount of success and designing your life so that you can navigate your ADHD without meds (if you want) you can have the luxury to go off of them. Not everyone has the same amount of support and time to maintain it without medication. Doing it without medication even while working out weekly, eating well, and supplements took a lot of time that I know I didn't have. At the time I was not enrolled in school or had a job. Depending on your circumstances I think it's important to get help via medication so you're not living with your parents for an unnecessary amount of time when you know you have a lot of potential to do more.
    "Pill-pushing" without learning about your ADHD and the medication is what causes issues. Not the medication themselves. At the end of the day see what works for you and your situation.

    I have heard many times exercise can increase concentration of people with ADHD. I would like to disagree. While in college, I played sports every evening and was a gym freak. If anything, exercising has made me more distracted from studying hahaha... It is good for health, yes, but not necessarily improves ADHD symptoms. I still like to procrastinate and leave everything to the last minute.
    It should also be emphasized that at that time I was not diagnosed and not treated. So maybe if I was aware I had ADHD, the effects of exercise might have been better.

    • @raynag8302
      @raynag8302 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right? I was just thinking to myself, but exercising IS one of those things I can't bring myself to do. It's an oxymoron to me.

    Thank you! Good for him for coloring when he needed to pay attention, that’s tactile learning and unfortunate for those who are limited and don’t know the different types of learning, and great idea on the writing the speech, I don’t have that problem but I will start looking for the simple solutions and make adjustments that fit me! ❤️

    Thank you!!I can totally relate!!What I do is instead of reading, I put text in a reader and i listen while I read at the same time..that’s the only way I got through college!!I have suffered so much!!cried!!stay up very late!!I really hope we can all help each other and be a community!! thanks for the tip of movement!! When I sit somewhere and the content of studying is boring, I become a plant haha I think of everything else!!however when I move I feel powerful for some reason and I feel I can do anything even boring stuff!!

    I agree about the exercise ! Its like training the brain to focus on something and this makes the focus muscle stonger. Find the things the inattentive child IS attentive! There are! People who are like that should not be forced to go to school because its waisted time. I was that child ! I opened my own company as an entrepreneur because i had ideas but not ability to consume information from spoken word. I had the ability to consume information from working with people and situations and gathering info from there 100x faster than my colleagues!!! Its insane!

    This one ticked so many boxes. I am a “professional” who struggles so much with paperwork (notes writing and report writing) for work. And the laundry folding - OMG. I would leave the clothes in the bag and start wearing the clothes from inside and still not fold them or put them away coz ‘I have got other more important things to do’!
