Did Alabama get the Head Coach hire right?

  • As Nick Saban's successor, Alabama has hired Kalen DeBoer away from Washington. Here's what we know. Kalen DeBoer is a proven winner. An amazing human. Players love him. He has had success everywhere. He will succeed in building a TEAM & running it that way in Tuscaloosa. Cole Cubelic shares stories and his experiences with the new Crimson Tide head coach.

Cube, I truly appreciate your description of Coach DeBoer as a servant leader. I've been a Bama fan since Bear leaned against the goal post. The biggest thing that Coach DeBoer will have against him is the same thing that all of his predecessors had (including Coach Saban) ... Fans bowing up against him with the attitude 'that's not the way we do things here.'. Folks, I think we have a winner on our hands if we simply give him a chance.

Great pod cast. Forget about the person you mentioned at the end. Saying you won't be able to get 10,000 likes. Everyone in Alabama who follows sports and football 🏈 and Alabama and Auburn football 🏈 loves yours and Macs show. And I'll continue to listen to your podcast. You did a class action report here. Hope you both have continued success. 🙏 Prayers for both of your and your families. I'm a Bama fan but pull for Auburn as well when their not playing Bama. I personally was friends with Reggie Slack and Stacey Danley. Had many outings with both of them during their playing years at Auburn. Anyhow God Bless 🙏 and thanks for a quality podcast and quality commentary. In the 🌎 world we live in now, quality and positivity are always needed. 🏈🏆📣💯💪🤙✌️ Will be back Sunday 🎉to listen in and tune in. To hear what you have to say.

There’s a lot that needs to get cleaned up. Washington was almost dead last in penalties per game, three blocks given up on special teams, eight fumbles lost, and a dline that got no pressure this past season. You can’t play that way in the SEC and win consistently.

I get the feeling that Nick is not going to let DeBoer flounder. The fact that Saban did not simply disappear, like Spurrier, and finished top 2 in recruiting, is a testament to the kind of man he is. I am sure he will offer whatever DeBoer needs to keep the program strong.

Nick saban hadn't recruited in the south either until LSU, same with urban Myer. No one had experience until they got a shot. I think its a good hire. Yes some players will leave no matter what. But that's just how football works today. It's a culture of right now players. Lets give him time and a fair opportunity. welcome to bama coach DeBoer! Yes nobody is Saban, but nobody ever will be. Second, Dabo's career is currently trending downward and he doesn't seem interested in re-inventing himself. Either that or Dabo doesn't have the ability to re-invent himself as Coach Saban did multiple times during his tenure at Alabama. After speaking with countless true Bama fans, not the fair weather types, the realistic expectations are consistent 9+ win seasons starting out. We realize that we are witnessing the end of an era. Not just in Tuscaloosa, but the entirety of college football. With NIL deals and free agency, star players are going to be hard to hold onto throughout college football. Most everyone I've spoken to is happy with this hire. We believe he has a great opportunity to be successful. Many fans expect to see Alabama in the final 12 come playoff season, which is a possibility. But we have to stay behind him and the team if it doesn't happen.

The recruiting concerns are real. Deboer's recruiting classes have been pretty underwhelming at Washington. That's why you'll always hear people say "he does more with less". Why does he always have less? Possibly because he's always job hopping, so recruits don't feel the stability you'd like. Penix was a 4 star recruit ti Indiana, he was always hurt, so he never felt comfortable. Penix obviously had talent, but a good percentage of his completions were contested throws to Odunze, who really is a Julio Jones/AJ Green type of receiver. Chris Peterson recruited Odunze.

No because you have to be able to recruit at an elite level. And yes he can hire a staff of recruiters with elite SEC experience but the HC at times has to be able to be able to seal the deal at times as well. He has a great resume because he has a great system that works I assume….So did Bryan Harsin. …But let’s go back in time to a HC that Bama hired that was an outsider with a very good resume…Dennis Francione!! Now Dennis did ok his second yr lost at least one game he shouldn’t have lost to Auburn because he was headed to A&M. But he was a system coach..At that time, I dare say the SEC was not what it would become. And his recruiting was horrible & we were left about where Auburn is now as a result.

Footage will not be like it was when Saban got here nor 4 team 12 or 14 playoff. No school will have complete dominance anymore. This coach hire has beaten Oregon twice he's beaten TX twice. He has a vision not Saban's vision just his vision. He was just in NC 2 yesrs after getting to Washington.

Well. As a 40 year sec fan I think Bama fans are in for a reality check. I’ve always supported Bama in playoff but you’re gonna take a huge step back. Period. I’m looking at UGA and lsu to surge to top of league. There is a lot of wishful thinking in this podcast. This kid from Washington might be the real deal but you really have no idea. You’ve got your fingers crossed. Bama goes back to pre nick saban.
I’m a Kentucky fan. Bama fans won’t admit it but Alabama football and Uk basketball have huge similarities. Small states. Limited nil. My fear is we will both struggle in the nil world.

LSU is still on a solid foundation that Saban built 20 years ago. You are the one wishful thinking

Bill Curry was atrocious at Ga Tech and Kentucky. Yet he won the SEC at Bama.
Gene Stallings was terrible at A&M, yet won a national title at Bama.
Mike DuBose is one of the worst head coaches in SEC history. Yet he won the SEC at Bama.
Mike Shula was an imbecile, yet won 10 games in 2005.
The Alabama job is the definition of “idiot proof.” DeBoer is being handed the keys to program with arguably the best roster in the country. If he’s just mildly competent, which it sure seems like he is, he’ll be a success in Tuscaloosa.

@@dalebrooks3152no. Don’t think that is correct. Maybe top 10. No one will catch A&M or Texas.
      A&M
      Texas
      Miami
      Tennessee
      OSU
Alabama will struggle with this. I’ve accepted as a Kentucky fan. Both states just don’t have that kind of staying power. Georgia, Florida and Texas are sec states with most potential

Big mistake. He inherited a loaded experienced roster. It just needed a QB. He knew Penix and brought him in and it worked. Great coach of someone else's players. That's how he got this job and how he got the WA job from Fresno St. He has recruited nobody. Grubb, his OC, is the guy you better hope he brings with him. Without him he won't make it 3 years. It's the 2nd coming of the last time the Tide got a coach from the state of WA.....Mike Price. Take him to a strip club in Pensacola ASAP and fix this mistake.

@@Don-md6wnAfter coming off a very successful run by Chris Peterson he resigned and passed along a talented team to Jimmy Lake. He coached 4 games in the covid year and got fired during the next season. One of the worst coaches ever. Talented team and he couldn't beat anybody. DeBoer took over for loser Lake.
