    Some of the best washing machines ever made

    Love this! WP/Kenmore, great vigorous wash action. Love the whirring noise of the motor; Not the best spinners at extracting moisture although not terrible but overall great reliable machines, same design for decades. Much better than the disposable crap today! Plus they had some style, character and were attractive.

      Yeah that was the only thing I didn’t like about those pre-1986 Kenmore/Whirlpool belt drives, they didn’t spin too fast

    • @cg7240
      @cg7240 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its probably because its old and the mechanics can't run as fast

    • @patcola7335
      @patcola7335 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cg7240Has nothing to do with that. It's the way the machine was designed. Whirlpool Kenmore washers had wide circumference tubs. Some of the largest at the time this was made.

    • @erossinema8797
      @erossinema8797 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patcola7335 , Well when you think about it high spin speeds aren't good for clothes. Too much g-force

    • @patcola7335
      @patcola7335 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@erossinema8797You know I have not seen this mentioned too much but could it also be because of the perforations in the basket?
      Whirlpool/Kenmore had rather large drain holes. Spinning too much faster would be detrimental to clothing I would think .
      I assume that had to be a consideration of the engineers.

    What a beautiful and wonderful working model example of how a washing machine should work. This video has brought back so many memories. The agitation sound are very soothing and relaxing. Should try this with patients with PTSD or ADHD. Probably would work much better than medication. I can still smell the Tide and bleach smells. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I always thought Whirlpool/Kenmores had the best agitator designs. The super Surgilator was a classic along with this super roto swirl and the original bakelite roto swirl and bakelite straight vanes.

    I had an early 70's Kenmore and finally traded up to a brand new Maytag in 2015. I want to cry. I miss my old machine and currently looking to go back. This new Maytag does not clean my concrete and muddy clothes and it takes over an hour to not clean them. I recently sold it cheap because the computer started having issues and was going to cost me a hundred bucks to fix. I decided to hunt for the nearest oldie and now have an older Admiral Capacity Plus for 150.00. What a difference in speed and how well it cleans. I think my old Kenmore still had it beat, but still glad to get back to the past.

    Brings back memories of hearing these operate when I was a kid in the 70's. Such a classic WP/KM sound...as common as these washers were, they were....to me anyway, the most fun to see operate and listen to.No washer quite like a belt drive as far as operational sounds go.
    I really didn't realize how good the roto swirl was. I was always more the straight vane type fan,....but the way this agitator moves and the rythmic sloshing and woo woo...it's no wonder it was kenmore's top agitator for so long.
    Just look at the agitator ramps ! Those early Kenmore and whirlpool agitators were brutes...no wimpy vanes on these washers.

    • @JeffreyHatch69
      @JeffreyHatch69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also got to love the top of these agitators! The soap (measuring) cup on the top of the agitator cap is awesome and the agitator cap with all the little rubber knobs and bumps to use as a scrubber on the real dirty stuff. These machines had real personality❤️💯

    It sounds a lot like my parents' 60s era washer when it's agitating. It looks a lot like that machine too, except theirs was white, and didn't have the cup on the agitator. Also, it was the Whirlpool version. My parents later replaced it with a new 1972 Sears Kenmore. It was white with a gold colored agitator.

    Ours was from about 1960. If it went off balance it shut off and a LOUD buzzer sounded. Better than the previous Frigidaire that would walk across the utility room when it went off balance.

    This is the same agitations Speed as the Kitchenaid. My dad had a '65 Whirlpool like this in his shop for his work clothes. When our Norge at home died after seven years and manybrepairs he told my mom that he wanted a Whirlpool and we got onevwith Super Wash and all of the fun stuff. It lasted twelve trouble free years and in '86 we replaced it with one of the first dd machines named Design 2000. We moved in. '89. I bought a Whirlpool portable for my first apartment that I had until four years ago as a backup. I had two dd machines since, and a Duet. They've all worked like horses.

      Belt-drive agitation speed is 68 SPM on high, 46 SPM on low. Direct-drive is 180 SPM on high, 120 on low, 90 on ex-low for 3-speed motors.

    Notice how well the RotoSwirl dasher turns the clothes over. The dual-action units do no better, and the dogs introduce another layer of complexity and potential unreliability to the equation. And the last machine I had with the dual-action was so loud that I could hear it in the diagonal-opposite corner of the house.
