I am a local n.van based tig welder. I never made the leap to artistic welding until I watched this. Very inspiring! I am lucky enough to have the skillset already. I am excited to go draw some patterns out and try some art welding. Very cool! Thank's for the inspiration.

From a beginner experience, my first machine was manual and second was electronic, If i were a teacher id have my students aim for a manual machine first machine. I’ve had my automatic (one dial) machine for little while know and i can get by because my first manual (8 dials) machine. Changing settings in the middle of a weld was sooo helpful compared too doing all that with a single dial. The difference in using a single dial for your weld settings compared to an allocated single dial is nigh and day..one is a conscious the other being subconscious, obviously the subconscious being the multi dial.
i watched many videos, but i would say starting with a manual machine gave me the most understanding welding.

Lol welds look great to me! Trying to figure out what’s up with my problem of extreme oxidizing right now. I with a stubby gas lense and #8 cup I need the gas set to around 50 cfh to not have the grey. Going to check a couple of things but it seems like either i have a bad gauge, a leak somewhere, atmosphere entering somewhere or maybe an improper set up. Tungsten was out just under 1/2” and moving it in Didn’t seem to make much difference. Going to have to do some diagnosing.

The surface colour is determined by the thickness of the oxide coating, which is rransparent, but with a thickness so close to the wavelength of visible light that it diffracts and interferes with it. This is true also of titanium. Some birds and butterflies have surfaces that diffract light in the same way. Thanks for this vid, BTW. Do you think it's possible to achieve a perfect weld of almost any colour on 1.5 to 3 mm stainless steel sheet?

I've watched I think every video on youtube to fix the problem and used up all of the stainless for my project, just practicing. So expensive and so frustrating just to see you effortlessly lay down such beautiful welds. Uggghh, but thanks for posting. At least I know it CAN be done.

Marty! Thanks for the question dude! The LayZr tungstens are actually listed as ‘chartreuse’ (has to google what colour that meant😂) actually could be avocado as well...? I find them to snap up the arc so easy, and thus lasting longer with use on some big pieces I’m doing. (Releasing that vid next week hopefully...the biggest one yet) So my bad on not being clear, green-pure, chartreuse-stainless 😂 Cheers brother 🤙🍻

you should setup the machine and hoses over head on a sliding track . rollers mounted in a track with your hoses inside a plastic flex to prevent kinking . make the last 2m of hose easily reach your bench height . this way there’s no hose in the way and it’s suspended so as if the hose falls it doesn’t smash on the floor ! further more mount the track onto a boom hinged at the wall so it covers all the work area . believe me once you have a boom holding the hoses up you will never go back to dragging hoses around the floor !

Hi Dusty. I was hoping you would make this video. Have been struggling to get good and consistent colors for art pieces. I thought I was doing everything right but now think the gas was set too high, 25 - 30 CFH. I have been practicing at the local tech school which has amazing machines and gas supplies so tend to set it high. Will be in class tomorrow night and will experiment with lower settings.

So heres something I'm confused about, when I'm trying to get colorful Welds I usually have to take the gas off of the welds within 1 or 2 seconds of it not glowing red-hot anymore. if I keep the gas covered on the weld any longer than that will just be shiny silver or maybe gold and I don't get any colors but when I remove the gas prematurely I always get pops of purple and red and blue which directly contradicts what you say, to keep the gas on for 5-7 seconds after it stops glowing. What am I going wrong? Is it not enough heat? Are my weld just not staying hot long enough?

Just a bit of feedback, it would be really helpful to see what your machine is doing (foot pedal control) if you could add a picture in picture so we could see this as well. I'm guessing you didn't hammer the pedal to the floor through the whole thing. That bit of finesse is huge in the outcome.

Very helpful and interesting video, but, please, can you make a more detailed one including machine settings, depending on material thickness and stuff like that. I'm a total newbie, I saw a ton of helpful videos with lots of helpfull and useful tips. I am busting my butt to respect all of the rules and never seem to come up with a decent looking weld not even on mild steel, not to mention stainless.
I saw you using small cups and not having the slightest problem in coming up with amazing looking and colorful beads, meanwhile I struggle with much larger cups and gas lens and I'm still not even close to decent, not to mention good looking.
Us noobs would appreciate very much a total novice dedicated tutorial video. Covering the right steps to take learning and trying to become better velders, basically how to keep going with the high level of frustration that being a novice TIG welder implies.
I know this is a very long comment, thanks a lot for doing these amazing vids, keep up the good work!

I did a basic tig welding course back in 2019 for my job, made a little piramid shape as a practice. The teacher did 3 welds and i did the others. The teachers welds are gold like color and mine are grey. This with the same settings and gas flow..Still don't know what i did wrong..Probably going too slow.

too slow and too much heat into the metal i believe. i just started tig welding literally last week for welding school but within the first few welds they went from grey to a really nice salmon/rainbow color

So let’s say my job requires sanitary welding (dairy product) I’m assuming the science behind it, is that I can’t really do colors because I have to displace all oxygen no? I would love to make weld art but if my job requires something that will nullify I would have to find a way to do this on my own, thank you!

I need a welding machine that I can afford. :( I am in school right now and I need practice with Tig so I can pass. Any recommendation on buying an affordable Tig/Mig welder?

Hey Karen- check out the two reviews I have on my channel, Everlast and CanaWeld. Both rad machines and very reasonably priced as well!:)

@@PacificArcTigWelding Are the CanaWeld machines available in the U.S.? Which do you like better? I only have access to a tig machine at work and they're monster Dynasty 400s, like 10 grand, so a little out of my price range and I can't sneak one out in my duffel bag lol.

Oh dude I get it.... I wanted to go blue as well but I cannot drop that type of money... I honestly haven’t batted an eye with my CanaWeld. I replaced to a torch that I liked better; and love it with adding a foot pedal to the mix. They are available from what I know, however not sure about what’s currently stocked and where. They did have an amazon link, (it’s in my description I think) but definitely worth hitting them up. Great people too💪💪

@@PacificArcTigWelding I had a multiprocess 250amp Everlast and it was not reliable. I bought a primeweld TIG 225 and love it. Comes with a foot pedal, ck ww air torch. All that for $799 w free shipping. For a beginner, I'm not sure you can beat it. Cust svc is good too.

I was always told color change is bad and a automatic fail when doing tig. Or at least on titanium

I’m using an Eastwood TIG200 and I cannot get any color in my welds even after trying these tips, no matter what my amperage is, high or lower than it should be my welds still come out colorless. I’ve played with amperage/travel speed ALOT and still can’t get it, also I cranked the gas flow up to 40 with a Pyrex cup and still the same result, I’ve played with the clearance effect also. Whats perplexing is the same settings in AC does perfect absolutely no contamination, just to preface that I do use a different grinder when switching between ac/dc so it can’t be cross-contaminated. Anyone have any ideas? I’ll take any at this point I just want to make my turbo manifold already lmao
