Wow - One of the very best pilots flying one of the very best G.A.U. aircraft in and out of one of my favorite airports? This guy is an inspiration in every aspect. What more can I ask for? The only thing missing is the snow-covered backdrop. Not to compare myself in any way - not even close - but L35 is the scene of my best arrival and departure operations - smoothest landings. I guess I attribute that to the bit of extra care/attention it kind of requires plus I had to do those check rides in and out of there for the high-density altitude experience. My bucket list includes piloting a F90 - even if it's just an instructional flight. I'll probably never make that but watching this guy is almost close enough. Again, not to be smart a*&ed, but my first favorite SoCal airport to fly in and out of was LO5 (Kern Valley) approaching from the SE up through that pass tracking that State Route then threading the needle on downwind to base and final for the 18 to land facing the lake. That's another one where I was usually pleased with my landings and departures despite initial apprehension. It would be neat to see Rich fly the F90 in and out of there. As I recall, not much crosswind risk at runway elevation but the gradient/eddy winds coming in and out of there were sometimes a factor.
Thank you for your reply and compliments! We were actually considering flying to Kern Valley but then something came up and we headed for Big Bear instead! Definitely planning a flight to L05 in the future - maybe in the King Air! Where are you based out of? Are you still current?
@@bobspencildrawings6928 I may have missed them, but I've seen no vids of Rich piloting rotary, sailplanes or, of course, para gliders, etc. Do I win the sweepstakes or has he posted those?
I have 3,000+ hours in SN218 an F-90-1. Most missions were Bay Area to ktrk with longer trips to SoCal and Canada. That plane was bulletproof and I never had a missed mission due to mechanical issues.
What a sweet ride Rich! I live vicariously through your videos. You get to fly all the cool stuff. The King Air is one sweet ride. I have about .7 in a C90.
@@FlyingwithRich it was decades ago when I worked for an FBO at PDK no longer in business. Flew right seat from ATL to PDK relocation flight. Got to do the takeoff. Was fresh multi rating at the time and was not prepared for the climb rate of the C90. It was a blast! Been flying a Cirrus SR22 these days and just got my double-I. Flight instruction is part time thing, (day job is IT sales), but would love to do some contract right seat in a King Air.

Beautiful. Awesome video. I am from Europe. A very long time ago(1986) I have been the last time to Bigbear. With Cherokee N55066. Changed a lot. A mass of hangars there by now. What a beautiful place with a lot of memories. Nice King Air. And your video best best enjoy like always. Thanks for this video.
Your videos have improved over the past two years. Not that they were bad before. Now you are fairly consistent with the info you give in each video, which is nice. Things like realistic speeds compared to the manufacturers published figures. Also fuel consumption, comparing the plane in the video to others in the same market. Just a lot of good info. Keep up the solid work.
I love how you describe the events and workings of the aircraft in a very professional way definitely had to subscribe to the channel thanks for posting
Thanks Rich! Appreciate the looks at different planes/configs I don't get to see often! As always, I learn something every time, every day. That KA is just a beautiful airplane, and love that paint! That would make a great picture for wall hanging LOL. Appreciate you, thanks again! 8) --gary
I subscribe to a lot of aviation channels, this is one of my favorites, look forward to it every Saturday. I Love seeing all the different planes. I appreciate your work and putting it out there for us, thanks Rich. What's your favorite plane to fly?
Really hard question to answer - so many great airplanes out there. Always loved the Cessna 185 - fits my style petty well. Want to do a video on one - have a friend who has a very nice one but it’s in Oregon. Hopefully will do a video on it soon.
Great video! King Airs are awesome! I flew a C-99 model for a commuter airline. The first thing I'm going to do after I win the lottery is go out and purchase a King Air.
Another well put together showcase of a high performance airplane. Definitely an inspiration to watch you live the dream flying these amazing unique airplanes. Your channel has definitely made an impact to an up and coming commercial pilot like me. Keep up the great work, Rich!
Thanks for sharing, I am disabledand cannot become a pilot so I hire planes to take my grandkids flying. I love your video's keep them coming please.... I should have joined the Airforce instead of the Army. All they let us do was rapel and jump out of them lol. Again much Love thanks
Had a couple stops at Big Bear in a Cherokee 180 about 10 years ago. A little different experience than in a King Air but really cool regardless! Beautiful place in an unexpected location.
Dont forget to tap the brakes before retracting the gear up!. Nice paint job on the F90, much better condition than the one I was flying up in the arctic.
Great video Rich. Thanks for sharing! Always enjoyed flying in the King Air. The company I worked for a number of years back had one in its fleet. Occasionally, I flew in the King Air on business trips.
Gotta admit that's one good looking King Air! Big Bear is such a cool area, maybe one day we will head out that way . . . Wished we could make the fly-in, sounds like a blast!!!!

Know the airport well. Have a house in Running Springs. You are so right about the fog. My house is around 6k feet. Many time the fog level is below us. Beautiful but driving the 330 through it is challenging.
Was assigned to Norton Air Force Base in the 70's. Took a car ride to Big Bear several times. When I first reported, the smog was so bad I didn't even see the mountains nearby. I got base approval to have my Cherokee 140 parked at the Aero Club. I was only 18.
Yea! Someone with a real GTN750!!! I thought I was the only one who had one. I use it in x-plane11 with my eclipse 550ng and love it. It's great to see one in real life!
May have heard you fly overhead both ways. If so, one of the quietest turbo-props I've noticed. We're almost directly inline between PDZ and LGB. Did my solo at LGB, January 1st, 1985 ! 1st XC L66 (AJO now) to Borrego Valley (L08 now. Believe it was private back in '85), Feb 17, 1985.
Is that a "-1" model F90 with -135 engines? Used to fly one of those many years ago. Fun airplane that really went at low altitude. Brings back memories watching this. Nowadays I fly Boeings in and out of KONT frequently, and have been up to Big Bear a couple times by car. Nice spot. Thanks for the air tour!
