    I like how destiny says "when my wife had cancer we had to get a divorce before we could pay for it." In the same breath he's saying it's not that messed up.

    I think the issue is that the complexity of out system is that it results in people slipping through the cracks and makes it more expensive than it should be. Like I’ve never had to worry about medical insurance. But the idea I’m screwed if I lose my job is BS.

      It really just depends on the state you live in. Some states don’t offer Medicaid for low income, only for pregnant women, elderly, and ppl with disabilities (Florida and TX for example)

      Because the insurance providers argue that they should get to pay lower prices for paying 'in-bulk' for all the people they provide for, the Pharmaceutical providers massively up-charge to compensate so that the slashed price becomes something they can still realisticially profit off of and keep their own stock holders happy. It's essentially a system of overpaid middlemen that only works most of the time because our government pays for the least fortunate, and it has become expected for job providers to cover the rest. Like almost everything else in America, this denies mobility to the middle-class and grants more power to the upper class, as anyone who wants to start a small business needs to cover the insurance of employees, and workers are afraid to leave their jobs because they'll lose their insurance.
      In other news, right leaning governments across the world wish to emulate this system if they get the opportunity, I wonder why (besides being deficit hounds).

    I can't afford insurance. If I broke my leg and went to the ER, I would be completely broke. I would have nothing left to my name. Medicaid is only accessible to people who meet the requirements. Being poor alone is not a qualification for Medicaid.

    One of the most annoying things about the money conversation is when people say shit like “just live for a year on [insert x low wage here]” as if that’s the bad part about being poor. The part that sucks about being poor is feeling like you’ll probably always be poor for the rest of your life. If I know all I have to do is wait a year to be wealthy again I’ll go live on the side of the mf’ing road in Alaska bro. Who cares at that point.

    Honestly working in a community pharmacy kinda helped me realize how good medical/medicaid and medicare are/how good private insurance through jobs is. Its just the system makes it super tedious to get proper care+lots of MDs dont really know small nuances about certain things/prescribe brand drugs that the PTs insurance wont pay then it becomes a mess. THis isnt even going into PAs&the ignorance lots of PTs and even their MDs have about their insurance formulary and deductibles. A lot of the times the drug you need or a similar drug is covered, its just a huge mess of finding which drug is covered and sometimes it gets as gritty as only certain manufacturers being covered or pick up methods like 90 day supplies only being covered via mail order. Its such a huge mess but if you can navigate the system it works pretty well

  • @bajango3975

    beggining of the video you say teh medical system is not fucked up, then later you say it is. which is it? Its fucked up. The cost and the care are one in the same. With all the experience you have how can you say the system isn't fucked up? I don't get that. It's the insurance system that fucks it up. Small biz owner here. I paid 900 dollars a month for my insurance last year because I needed the option to have care across state lines due to several chronic medical issues, and I still can't get the true care that I need. I'm confused as to what point you are trying to make in this video.

    The sad truth is a lot of these people paying really high rents are living in areas where the rent is high. I live in Spokane and the average rent here for one bedroom apartment is $1588. Which is a lot lower than Seattle, New York city and Los Angeles. it always astonishes me that people aren’t able to apply for jobs in areas that are more affordable to live. I know it’s not easy but if this is such a problem you’re going to have to do it. It’s not like a bunch of people haven’t been moving to Texas and Georgia for the exact same reasons. The cost-of-living is simply more affordable in those states.

    • @liberalbias4462
      @liberalbias4462 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The government should step in. Japan doesn't have this problem. Tokyo is one of the most affordable major cities in the world.

    • @Awaken_To_0
      @Awaken_To_0 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      And what happens when the Supply of goods remains the same, but there's a sudden massive influx of Demand? What happens to the rent when previously there were say 3 renters competing for a unit, and then there's suddenly 10?
      Prices will go up.
      Not to mention that economic opportunity is not equally distributed. Spokane has an economic output of about 25 Billion dollars. Los Angeles, by comparison, has an economic output of 1 Trillion Dollars. For comparison’ sake, that makes Spokane's economy about 2.5% of LA. If LA's production was a dollar, Spokane would be _two pennies (and one hay-penny.)_
      Spokane is cheaper because there is less competition, and there is less competition -in broad strokes- because there is less opportunity. So all these people just moving to Spokane is not a feasible solution to the problem

    • @jordanwhite8718

      You do realize there are other cities in the US besides Los Angeles and Spokane, right? I even mentioned a few other places to move to like any of the cities in Texas and Georgia. Honestly, if you’re coming from Los Angeles, any city outside of California would probably be an improvement and most cities inside California would be as well. Try to read the whole post next time before writing a reply.

    The main critique I have of our healthcare is its stupid focus on triage and managing symptoms as opposed to prevention. Good luck trying to get screened for something you feel is wrong early on. Doctors will dismiss you until you’re basically in the process of dying unless you pay out of pocket insane amounts of $$.
    Ever see the chart that compares income to life expectancy for US and Europe? It’s sad. Life expectancy is higher across the board in Europe, but the delta only narrows at the top 0.1% of income levels. 😬

      I'm 22 and I've had experiences where I paid a not insignificant amount of money for certain things I felt were wrong that might be serious in the future where my actual medical advice boiled down to "oh it's probably fine" or "why don't you come back in a year and see if it's gotten worse" A YEAR. It's depressing as fuck. I literally have dreams where I go in for cancer screenings because now I'm always worried that something like that is under the surface and I won't find out until it's too late. There are people I love and things I want to do. I feel like I'm a hair's width away from losing everything because of some stupid mistake like that.

During her studies she was prescribed the wrong medication by her physician which rendered her infertile, almost killed her, and left her in the hospital for 2 weeks while all her friends and family abandoned her. She could not do anything to sue her physician because she still had to study and finish her degree, and now on top of student debt she has medical debt now. Fuck me, man.
