Jenni Cox, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Psychology at The University of Alabama and the Director of the Southern Behavioral Health and Law Initiative. Dr. Cox’s research explores factors that influence individual decision making within the context of the criminal legal system. She is interested in how courts consider mental health evidence and the extent to which psychological constructs and individual differences factor into legal decision making. Dr. Cox is widely published, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and was awarded the 2022 University of Alabama Presidential Research Award. With funding from federal and state agencies and philanthropic foundations, Dr. Cox’s grant work is diverse and explores prosecutorial discretion, jail-based competency restoration, and substance use intervention for legally involved individuals. She is also a licensed clinical psychologist and Co-Directs the Alabama Forensic Assessment and Research Evaluation project in which she trains doctoral level graduate students in forensic mental health assessment and treatment.

1. Explain the structure of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI), including validity, clinical, and interpersonal style scales.
2. Describe empirically supported applications of the PAI in forensic mental health evaluations.
3. Assess two applications of the PAI as reviewed in U.S. caselaw.
