This symphony dates from a period when Krenek had temporarily discarded his previous atonal style influences by Viennese avant-garde to adopt a more tonal style. Hence the significant differences between symphonies 1 & 2 and this splendid third symphony, written in a totally mastered style.

Die "unangenehm" concept "American" always sounds to me like Webern works. I didn't born in America, but I live in South America, so I'm an American too. Thats what I use the term USA, because in the North we have the Canadians who also are Americans.
It seems more correct to call us Vespucianos but the "esploratore e mercante" Americo was more power. In honor of him we have been called America ( Americanos).
Sorry if I bother somebody but when you said Europe everybody understand. When you said American everybody things about United states of America. Why's that?!

The situation is complex. Krenek began as an atonalist, but changed his mind during vacations in Switzerland, and turned to a post-schubertian style. hence the stylkistic hesitations than can be heard in that symphony when compared to the previous two ones.
