    Probably water residue in the Coil Pack(s), Maf, a Lead or a Sensor following the engine rinse. Hopefully this will dry out and sort itself out. If not switch the Coil Packs over to see if it is a faulty one (if so the fault will follow the Cylinder the Coil Pack is moved to from the original location being Cylinder 1 in this case). You probably know this already but I hope it helps. There is also a Sensor/Valve related to boost and the turbo which does go funny on these cars (I think it begins with the letter 'N' followed by 2 digits from memory). This is also easy and inexpensive to change/fix if it turns out to be defective.

    Clearly that car was in a bad way when you got it...it must have hard a hard life. I’m impressed by your ability though...the dealership you worked for must have been sorry when you left..not many mechanics have your diverse range of skill and knowledge. Now as soon as you cure the misfire and hopefully the oil change sorts out the shift problem...get the thing sold..in an Auction!! 😱😱😳😳😳

    Great video, as others have said I would guess it was related to the jet wash on the engine. Look at cleaning the MAF and try the old swopping the coil packs to identify if the fault follows the pack on cylinder 1.

    Yes please - cam belt, would like to see how you an Audi trained tech does the job having already paid my local Audi dealer for two changes in 32k miles, I’m now considering doing the next one myself. If you do yours, can you show the important bits in real time, thanks.
    You probably know there was a recall or whatever they call it when they only do the work when the cars in for a service and they don’t actually contact you, for the coil packs, mine had a meltdown at the side of the road, seem to remember they’d been revised about five times within about three years from new. Could be that these weren’t caught. I hope that’s all it is. Loving the channel - thank you.

      As Mathew said, the cars a 2005, Audi U.K. say cam belt change every 5 years, Audi USA say for the same car 6 years and the same engine in a VW (UK) I believe is 4 years, so I’ve opted to change it every 6 years. Probably unnecessary but the car sits idle for months on end which I guess can’t be good for the belt. Still on the original water pump though, Audi have a way of checking if it’ll last....apparently.

    • @danmoney9932
      @danmoney9932 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@f1kwa399 thanks Ken. I guess it's better to be safe. I be even more intrigued to hear if anyone has ever had a belt let go due to age way before the due mileage. Probably depends on the engine but I'd bet it's extremely rare.

    You could bung a tube of molyslip in the gearbox, I ran a gear box dry for a few hundred miles after the 5th gear punched through the tin end cover dropped all its oil, the molyslip saved my bacon.

    That cam follower is "fine" in the sense that if you replace it, all good. The coating is gone though - it needs replaced immediately. The misfire thats better with the MAF unplugged is a boost leak. Check the intercooler hoses.

  • @torquesteer2657
    @torquesteer2657 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great vid! Fingers crossed it’s just a coil pack or dodgy plug. Hopefully not a fuelling / injector issue, or worse head gasket.
    For the gearbox, if the fresh gear oil doesn’t help may have to strip it or grab a second hand box. Hopefully re-use the oil at that price 😅

    Another great video Dean, the car looks good at least now. I can't believe the oil price that's ridiculous, reminds me of a tale about some new buses we had and the eng dept decided to use a cheaper oil on a certain bus type, which ended in a crash, a warranty visit from the Manufacturer and a hurried purchase of the proper stuff. I have a question, re all the mechanical bits, are they better quality than my beloved ford's or are they more familiar to you? Also I've watched the US lad "Four lane blacktop" and his renovation of virtual write off due to electrical & some mechanical defects, 2006 Bentley Continental 4dr and the amount of identical audi/vw parts hes used is amazing. Yes the interior is unique and sort of the engine, but the rest...... I guess that's why the platform sharing irritates me so! Apart from the mustang my fave of urz is the VRS!!! Be careful. Ben

  • @peterturner1847
    @peterturner1847 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oil all over the gearbox could be the vacuum pump seal behind the fuel pump, the valve cover also weeps oil down the back of the 2.0TFSI when the seal fails, oil goes everywhere and flows along pipes. A faulty PCV valve will also cause oil leaks (mainly the valve cover). All cheap fixes!

      Get a workshop manual. They don't cost much. All the torque settings are in there.
