I just picked up the Q2M and it’s incredible. I prefer the 28mm because the high megapixels allow a great crop at 35mm and 50mm while retaining amazing detail.
Thanks for the review, great photos and looks a superb camera. Just one thing in the narrative to amend - when you crop you do get the compression of an equivalent longer lens because the compression is a consequence of the perspective at that viewing distance not the optics used.
I’m very interested in the new Leica Q3 43, so I have viewed several TH-cam initial impression videos. All videos contained sample photos taken with the 43 - and mostly not impressive. However, your images are truly stunning, and really show off the IQ of this new APO-Summicron 43mm lens - so much better than even Leica Camera Australia’s own representative’s video, whose images did not do the new lens justice. Kudos! Your images really made this new Leica Q3 system shine. Thank you
Wow thank you so much for the kind words. I think strong photos should be the base for any camera review. I'm working on more real world shoots with the Q3 43 coming here soon. Thanks for watching!
Well done buddy. I’m a motorcycle photographer and the 28 was just too wide for me. I bought this one and already use it in my workflow and also for fun. Loving it so far.
Great review and test Kevin! I agree with this focal length will be a hit. Some of us didn't like the Q line 28mm leaving you only to crop a wide shot. This will be a great new option. Sweet car! 👊
Great review, appreciate all the work you put into it. If you could only have one camera, what would you choose: M11 w/50mm or Q3 43? No explanation needed, more curious if you really had to pick...asking for a friend haha.
Thank you for watching! It would depend on what I’m using the camera for. If you are asking for my personal work and enjoyment I would always pick an M. Not just over the Q but any other camera.
I recently got a Q2 Monochrom & I love it, but I do find myself wanting to shoot color & I miss 50mm sometimes. I think the Q3 43 is the perfect compliment to that camera & I will definitely pick one up…in around 4 years, after the Q4 comes out & people start selling theirs. That’s probably how long it will take me save up enough 😂
Got mine on release day and have put about 1000 shots through it on the weekend and yes - it's the Q I always wanted! :) Btw great content Kevin! I'm here though Gajan's video and loving your collection and insides! I've been falling into this Leica rabbit whole for a while now and unfortunately I can't get enough Leica ^^'' - and my recent videos somehow reflects that :D Can't wait to learn more about Leica through your videos / channel! Greetings and sub from Germany :)
For me it’s a perfect Q! Ok maybe for me personally I would prefer a 43 1.4 summilux but I get why it doesn’t or can’t have that. Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate it. Glad you found me through Gajan and have the Leica bug. My Channel will not be good for your Leica addiction 😅😅
@@kevinfickling6384 So true, but simply shows me I basically don’t know anything about Leica, so I’m trilled to learn 😁 And yeah, oh man imagine a 1.4 Lux with AF … but still I’m happy with the f2 APO and only having it for a few days it also feels like the dream Q for me 👍 Can’t wait what you will put out soon!
It’s a complete new design that doesn’t share anything with the 28mm Q. The 28 is a 1.7 summilux and the 43 is an F2 apo. Apo lenses are the highest performance for sharpness, color correctness and out of focus area’s
@@kevinfickling6384 that’s what I plan on doing as well I think it’s a great range to have considering the quality of these lenses and in cam cropping if you have both lenses you have the absolute range! It’s seriously a great combination
@@kevinfickling6384 also ur apo will be better for chromatic aberration But sharpness, the difference that’s debatable imo! Looking forward to your next video
28 owners don’t need to fret. It does everything this camera does and more. More useful to have a wider frame than not - distortions won’t result if you do crop mode anyway. Besides 43 is not the same as 85 or 135 portrait FL. Also, one can’t attach a filter if they were to use macro with the hood on. If one needs to carry just one leica q, then it’s 28 all the way. If they want a backup, this will be a great choice alongside Q3
I totally get it and I’m glad that they offer both. For me personally the 43 fits my work better but I can see why the 28 would also work amazing for people. All about picking the tool that works best for you and the images you’re making.
Good eye! It’s not a studio but actually my workshop. Gajan was here filming a short film that will come out sometime next year. He used my space as a backdrop to film the talking head for this review and we also shot a few TH-cam videos at the same time.
The biggest Panasonic release Leica had in years! Really don't love the lenses on those, need a TON of software correction to look remotely usable. Also the shutter is in the lens barrel, Leica does NO repairs on any part of it. Full replacement if you break even just the AF lock switch.
@@baladino I don’t get where this shares any resemblance with anything in the Panasonic lineup. Full frame fixed lens camera? No. 43mm apo lens? No. Does Leica have a partnership with them to develop tech? Yes and I’m sure it’s used here to some extent. That doesn’t make it a Panasonic. As far as the issues with repair. I’ve never sent in a Q so can’t comment on that.
Never thought I’ll be excited for a q3 again!!! Defo getting my hands on this

@@SneakyCaleb absolutely! And that Monochrom sensor gives you a little resolution bump as well. Cant go wrong either way.
You loose mega pixels if that’s important for someone when cropping… Q3 43 is higher optic.
