    If I were shopping for a versatile yet sporty touring bike, this would be in the running. If I were set on exploring more dirt, I would sacrifice some long-range comfort for a smaller, lighter machine. Triumph wisely configured the GT.

    Hi Rocketman, love your reviews! I suppose we are on geographical opposites as I am a Portuguese guy living in the UK. 😅
    I currently own a Tiger Sport 660, and today, I went for an all day test drive with the GT Pro whilst mine was servicing. I must confess I did not love it. Here are some thoughts of things that in my humble personal opinion stood out between the 900 GT Pro vs my Tiger Sport 660. I do 70% of my riding in the city (London) and 30% motorway/a roads and b roads. Would love your feedback, if you have the time of course: on the plus side, comfier, plushier, easier to manoeuvre at city speeds (19 inch wheel), great brakes, feels like a could ride it all day. Down side: uglier than the 660 (personal opinion), would love a spoke wheels option and all those stickers in the paint, some of them lacquered like the 900, just don’t agree with me, engine sounds a bit like a tractor, felt a bit of disconnect/directness in throttle response, disappointed with the torque (though it would have a bit more response), the vibes through the pegs are just awful at city speeds of 20/30mph (around 3000 rpm). Still feeling the tingling on n my feet. There are other few niggles that are more personal taste than anything but all in all, very disappointed with a bike that would cost my current motorbike (which is 2 years old and valued at about 6k) plus another 9k to buy. I personally wouldn’t go for the Rally (which I love the design) or the 1200. Both too big for the amount of city riding I do.
    Thanks for reading!
    Kind Regards,
    Antonio

      Thanks for your input. I wonder if it’s not a question of size? I’m 187cm and 95kg and so I find the 660 a bit lightweight for me.

    I've had a Gt Pro for 3 years and would disagree with you on its ability for the occasional gravel / dirt road, grass field and firm sandy beach.. Set it in off road mode, a set of 70/30 tyres and away you go.. great fun... At 5ft 10 the geometry suits me very well and i love the electronic rear suspension ie put it in sport mode and it automatically stiffenes the dampness with the ability to fine tune.. semi active would describe it.. After 40+ years of messing about with "C" spanners this system suits me very nicely..
    Love the versatility of this bike and thats why i have orderd the new one

    Reviews on bikes can be so subjective. Today i had the opportunity to test ride both the Triumph Tiger 2024 Rally & the GT. Both are great bikes! Being 5" 7" tall I found the Rally just a tad challenging because of it's 860cm lowest seat height. Just on the balls of my feet. Especially when stopping on gravel roads with uneven terrain. Although i loved riding it. However, I found the GT Pro perfect for my height and an absolute gem to ride on tarmac and totally capable on gravel roads if you have no intentions of going further off road. I loved the 2024 GT Pro so much I bought one. Put a bash plate & lower engine guard on for my gravel travel. Will wear out the road tyres already on, then replace with 70/30's

    I did own a 2020 Tiger 900 Rally Pro. Very well made, comfy and good bike on paper but, in my opinion, a very dull engine. Also it did have a weird vibration when riding at more than 100km/h. I ended up trading it just 6 months later for a Tracer 900.
    Anyway, I'm happy to hear they have addressed some of the initial, if not all, complaints people had with the first generation.

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Very comprehensive.
    But expensive.
    And as they get so big the more unmanageable they become.
    I really believe small, manageable bikes you can take anywhere are the answer, for me at least. New 400 scrambler looks great. Rumours are Rally Raid might do some work on one. Perfect.
    Nice to have the choice.
    Ride safe 👍

    Just to add to what I mentioned in my last comments. For the trip home soon after buying my GT Pro I made a detour to a gravel road of about 15kms. Your thoughts about the GT's capabilities on gravel/dirt roads was less than positive. I just want to rectify some of your comments. I guess your height of 6' 2" had a lot to do with it. I'm 5' 7" and I found the bike, still with road tires, and in off road mode handled very well on the gravel road i traveled. The GT is totally capable of some spirited gravel riding! Once I wear out the road tyres it will be even better with a set of 70/30 tires. Of course the Rally Pro is more capable in tougher terrain. For those of us that find the Rally seat height a tad challenging, the GT Pro is more than capable of handling gravel roads! Although I wouldn't venture beyond that, whereas the Rally could!

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fair enough, thanks for your input. You can go off-road on any bike if you really want. I followed a friend up a steep rocky path a few weeks ago and he was on his BMW K1600 GTL, lol. I personally found the GT Pro less suited to off-road duties than I had been expecting, but you are doubtless far more competent off the asphalt than I am :)

    I have the 2022 1200 Explorer - fabulous bike! 20,000 miles in and the only complaint is the lack of choice of tyres - I agree with you with those Metzeler tyres! You get used to them but I do much prefer Dunlop rubber. I'm the same height as you, it fits perfectly. But it is not my perfect bike, that is my Rocket 3 TFC, but it is almost as good. Tried the 900, great bike but the 1200 Tiger beats all others in the adventure segment for me.

    Maybe the sweet spot between the Transalp and spending real money going to a 1300GS, but I would expect for the prize to have at least keyless and a blind spot detector. These " more known " brands really need to pay attention to what's coming from China makers. Same goes for the new Africa Twin.

    Did you select "Off Road " mode on the gravel road? It winds the preload down on the rear shock. Makes the bike lower and more stable offroad. If doing a long distance off road you should back off the compression and rebound on the front shocks. I've done a quite a few gravel roads on my Tiger configured this way with full luggage.

    Good review, but I gotta take issue with a part of it. If you want to go faster and you've run out of revs, you don't need more power, you need to shift up a gear.
    I reckon this thing would do 130 mph or so. If you're going that fast regularly, you'll either lose you license or life before long. These lanky bikes were never meant for that anyway. I hit a pothole on the interstate once on a Versys 1000 at 90 mph and it went into what I thought was going to be a life ending tank slapper. And these things get worse when you start hanging ginormous metal boxes all over them. Not exactly aerodynamic.
    That said, if they'd paint one of these like the red Aragon and stop burying useful shit like the odometer under menus, I could be a buyer.

    I own a '21 - 100% correct regarding the 'mid-grade' master cylinder. Baffles me why Triumph would top-spec the calipers and then partially neuter them with a JJuan MC. I haven't had any issues with heat, including rides in 90+ degrees F. Mostly mitigated the handlebar vibes with BarkBuster bar-end weights. Aside from the extremely high maintenance costs (12K = $1,500 USD...) I really like the bike.

    Nice review. The gas tank has more information and warning stickers then I've seen so far. Perhaps an advantage if you go to Gibraltar and are bored during the ride - you can read the stickers for an hour or so. I'm sure I'd love the ride quality and acceleration (as I did on my F750GS), but 222 kg is unnecessarily too heavy for me. You could have tried how far you can jump with the Tiger off the cliff. Cheers.

    I liked the comfort comparison to the Goldwing. I'm about to switch from a Goldwing to the 900 GT Pro because riding has gotten to be mostly long day rides and 2-up only 10% of the time. At 6'3", the Tiger fit very nicely and the misses liked the rear seat position. I was cross shopping to the Tracer GT+ (found it a bit cramped) and the new Africa Twin (vaporware in the US). Issue in the US is that the Tracer is a unicorn to find at Yamaha dealers and Honda has yet to announce the Africa Twin for the US market (they skipped on the 2023). I've had GS's before but can't see a $10k difference between the 2024 bikes and 105hp will do nicely. Any comparison on the GT Pro to the 2024 Africa Twin Adventure Sport?

I find it unsettling and the lack of some convenience items notwithstanding, I don't find it a particularly good looking bike. This bike loves fuel. I wonder if they improved the jumping up and down of this motorcycle on a smooth road. That was quite annoying. The engine has three cylinders and I expected very smooth operation. Perhaps it is slightly better than in most two-cylinder systems, but the difference is surprisingly small (and large in fuel consumption).
    You probably really like this aggressively raised exhaust - it looks cool, right? But in order to hang luggage there, you have to either move it away from the motorcycle or specially profile the pannier. That's why Honda 'didn't know this' and placed the exhaust low.

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The engine is now very smooth, much better than gen 1, but I agree that the unnecessarily high exhaust (for a tourer) limits luggage options.

    Out of interest, is the 'seat to peg' height taller on the Rally Pro than on the GT Pro? That is where you gain 'leg room' and not on the claimed seat height. I'm a strictly 'black top' rider so off road capabilities don't concern me. I'm currently on a BMW R1200RS and I'm finding the 'seat to peg' height increasing less comfortable as I get older. Enjoy your reviews as always.

    Very useful review. I like your narration style. Subscribed.
    Am a bit surprised about the "no Off-road capability at all" evaluation. I currently ride the 2015 Tiger 800Xrx which in Triumph model logic is the elderly ancestor of the more road-oriented 900GT. I have done a fair bit of "off-tarmac" riding with that. Nothing really technical, but gravel & forest roads etc. Could it be that the street tires make a real evaluation difficult here?
    Anyway, I agree - for a new bike the Rally Pro would be my choice as well.

      Thanks, Jack. Yes, of course, you can take any bike off road - I was just doing some gravel tracks this morning with a friend on a BMW K1600GT - and I dare say the Tiger GT Pro could manage with some beefier tyres, but why not just get the Rally Pro and be done with it? :)

    Very good review, covering most of the upgrades I was wondering about. I am thinking of changing my 2021 gt pro for the new one. 3 years is a reasonable time to think about changing? I disagree about the brakes and vibration. I had the old 800, which, although smoother, gave out high pitched vibration, resulting in white finger. The 900 has lower frequency vibration, which doesn’t give me any problems. I also think the stylema brakes are very good. The nissins on the 800 weren't anything like as sensitive or powerful. They also used to bind onde the mud and rain worked their magic! Cheers.

      I'm not saying the Stylemas are poor, it's just that I've tried the same disc and calliper setup on the Speed Triple with a better master cylinder and there's a huge improvement. I think if your 900 is 3 years old, then you deserve an upgrade ;)

    For me the Tiger has always been a fantastic road bike. I tried riding the older 800xc model off road. Even with off road biased tyres it just wasn't at home. I dont believe the chassis or engine (traditional triumph triple) suited off road riding. For me I wish Triumph would scrap the cross plane crank and just sell the Tiger as road focussed bike. Because the original triple made it different and for the better. I had no problem riding the "road version" Tiger 800 with its 19" front wheel on gravel roads. And to me that's all the bike needs to do. Adventure bikes have become a fashion statement. Basically if they don't look like they can take on Dakar, then they sort of get written off as a worthy contender. Yet so many riders only use them as road bikes with the occasional dirt road.
    The KTM 1190R I owned got used as intended. It saw gnarly enduro single track, fast flowing fire trails. But that bike was designed from the start to be an off-road bike. Whereas the Trumpy was designed to be a comfortable, easy to live with road bike. And to me, it's one of the best practical, long-distance touring bikes.

      @@RocketMan_Moto Yeah, so if I’m going to have to upgrade the suspension on a Transalp for two up riding it certainly makes price difference much less significant.

    It's worth giving the Yamaha Tracer 9GT+ a try, as it is in the same price range as the Tiger 900 GT Pro, yet it offers the added benefits of active radar cruise control and an exceptionally spirited engine.

      @RocketMan_Moto  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know the 9GT well, although I haven't tested the +. Tbh, though, as much as I like the engine, it just doesn't have the off-road abilities that I'd like.

      I'm holding out for a Yamaha Tenere that boasts a CP3 engine and 20 cm active suspension travel, coupled with 21-inch front wheels. Patience is a virtue, and I'm optimistic that it will pay off in the end (fingers crossed 🙂).@@RocketMan_Moto

      @@RocketMan_MotoIn my humble opinion, wrong engine for a tenere, too rampant. Similarly the much much rumoured r9, again cp3 great engine but too flat (relatively) at top end for a sportsbike. Egg on my face potential in that comment, but hey ho.

    Great that Triumph released new 900cc tiger range this year. Due to that all dealers nearby where I live are in a hurry to sell older generation bikes. Purchased a previous year Tiger 850 Sport. Yes, the 850 has its minuses, but for that price(and my use case) it beats all the competition. Could not justify the +4-6k eur for the GT PRO (again, for my usage) Main choose was between Transalp and the 850 Sport. Transalp was 1500 eur more, but did not offer many advantages.
    RocketMan. Thank you for the video.
    P.S eager to start my new riding season on the Tiger. Unfortunately there is about a 4 month wait till that will happen.

      Triumph Algarve has a bunch of previous generation Tiger 900s, too. I think the main advantage of the Transalp is its off-road ability

      I'm hesitating between Transalp and the 850 Sport. Here in Spain the 850 is 1300 euros more expensive than the Transalp.

      @@pedrosonic id bet my money on the honda in this case. 850 sport really has no upsides if its cost is bigger. In terms of looks they are both similar (and ugly. But thats subjective). But ride em both, se what suits you best.

      @@aleksandrskusnirs6259 Thanks for your opinion. I'll use the bike mostly on road, that's why I tend to prefer the Tiger's 19-inch front wheel and its tubeless tires.
