10cc! My first love in music in the late 70s. Kicked off when I borrowed Deceptive Bends from my uncle. The guitar solo at the end of Feel the Benefit Part 3 is my favourite of all time. It still makes me stop what I'm doing and let it wash over me whenever I hear it.
Im Mandy Fly Me was my introduction into rock music when i was 13 and It is on my list of "Desert Island" records that I would want with me if i was shipwrecked on an island and i could take 3 records with me! I absolutely love it. Its definitely worthy of your Platinum Record Award.......Thanks Brandon⭐️
10cc are putting on their musical buffet yet again. All four members were great, creative composers, vocalists and multi-instrumentalists. On "Judge", Eric Stewart sings lead with Graham Gouldman providing the lower vocals. Great little tune. "Mandy" is fun in a different way. Like passing round a sharing platter with you and your mates. Produced by them, too.
4 singers who were also great musicians and all of them good writers meant that they had an overflow of good ideas and hence a brilliant range of musical styles often in the same song. Time I think for the rock opera prototype that preceded Queens Bohemian Rhapsody - ‘Une Nuit A Paris’ parts 1-3.!
They were such a catchy band - like a seventies Beatles in many ways, both great songwriting, innovative and playful production, solid musicians and a great live act! Their 1977 live album is really great, by this time they had expanded to a six-piece band and the sound became beefier and even more colourful... :) "I'm Mandy Fly Mae" has a "dream journey" quality with the many vocal breaks and transitions, and it still feels like a unity. Always liked that one.
@@retroreactions.... "I'm Mandy Fly Me" was really cool, I'd never heard it before! Had me thinking of The Beatles, Todd Rundgren, and The Flower Kings?! "Good Morning Judge" was fun but not something I'd go out of my way to listen to (unless it's on Retro Reactions of course! 🤗) In addition to Aerosmith I heard hints of ZZ Top and The Monkeys!
An exhausting day and eve of editing and filming multiple videos. Knocked out for 30 minutes. Can't decide if I should eat or go back to sleep! If so, it will likely be lasagna haha....
Song writing/production Kings. The best Prog/Pop band in the world. Their songs always have something interesting going on. They throw as much as they can into a 3 & 1/2 to 4 minute Pop single like others would approach a 7 + minute Prog/Rock song. "Mandy" is one of my favourite songs period. Superb band.
I have a feelng that the "zither" guitar-like sound you mentioned in I'm Mandy Fly Me, may have been a "Gizmo" which was a guitar effect that was used instead of a pick/plectrum. This was a project from Godley and Creme, it never really took off. I may be wrong 🤔
2 excellent choices, I always felt Mandy was 10cc's most mature outing, real depth in sound and lyrics. You'll enjoy Clockwork Creep, it is possibly 10cc's *least* mature song on the surface, but then again it's a deceptive bend, they did a lot, give it a listen. You could actually stick a pin in their 3 'best phase' albums and come up with a great song. Good Morning Judge is a great wee song too, I only know the singles post-split but they were all good.
@SophiaPangloss - Another fun 10CC song is 'Life Is A Minestrone' 😀 I think I have not yet heard 'Clockwork Creep' and will give it a listen 😉👍 *PS:* I have now, and wow what a quirky song, but also very good! 🤩
Thank you Brandon! Always love your intelligent, articulate, sensitive reactions my name is pronounced "Shaun" - it's the Welsh spelling Messaging you from Caernarfon, North Wales UK 🏰 Thank you Sir🍀
When I read 'Good Morning, Judge' in this video's title, my reaction was, "I don't know that one" - and then it turned out I actually did! 😄 I just hadn't known it was a 10CC song and had assumed it was by someone like Joe Walsh! 😄 Maybe also have a listen to their song 'Life Is A Minestrone' some time! 😊 Great shirt you're wearing, by the way! 😉👍
@@retroreactions.... - You're welcome, Brandon 😀👍 I think 10CC have been quite popular here in NZ, because several of their songs I'd heard on the radio of a former workplace 8 years or so ago without knowing at the time it was them! Including 'Good Morning, Judge', 'Rubber Bullets', 'Art For Art's Sake' (then misheard as 'Paparazzi' 😅), 'Wallstreet Shuffle' and also 'I'm Mandy, Fly Me' 😀 All I'd known consciously by them before hitting several reaction channels had been 'I'm Not In Love', 'Dreadlock Holiday' and (my favourite) 'Life Is A Minestrone' 😁
@@retroreactions.... Great song, but the lyrics include the 'n' word. Although it's used in a non pejorative way, I suspect that TH-cam might not approve regardless of the context.
How Dare You is a phantastic album - ever single song is a journey of its own. I think you already did Don't Hang Up if I remember well. My favs are I Want to Rule the World and Rock'n'Roll Lullaby. But there are hardly any fillers on that album.
...loved 10cc all the way through their career, and after the split, there were also very interesting albums by Godley & Creme as solo artists... these 2 songs are certainly fun, but they are just scratching the surface, being hit singles... their albums were top quality all way through, and there are a lot of deep cuts to savour, that didn't make the radio play... 😎
Too late for me….had to wait till breakfast time! Great to see you bring more 10cc!! They do have quite the variety of styles in their music! I did get to hear both of these live when I just saw 10cc in August. 😊 Halloween later today?? 🎃💀👻
Yes, but I heard some amazing stuff yesterday which you will hear on Saturday on P. Retro Reactions with breakfast is a good combo I hear lol... So cool that they played both of these. Yup some interesting spooky tunes no doubt tonight...😀

Tasteful pop by a band with a terrific sense of humour: just my type of band! With their multi-faceted compositions, I can see why they are sometimes referred to as Prog Pop. “I'm Mandy Fly Me” is one of my favourites, along with the inescapable “Feel the Benefit” (maybe one day, when Brandon is in the mood for more Ten CC...😉)
Hey! Your reactions are very thoughtful, though they still feel rushed, as though you’re minimizing them. I for one, love your insights and encourage you to take more time describing what you heard and how it made you feel. You’re doing great, tell us more! These two tracks are from what I consider to be 10cc’s best 2 albums. Flawless, both of them, start to finish. Keep going! I’ll watch!
First song has Supertramp vibes, with a dash of ELO, and a bit of mellow Styx(vocal harmonies are Styx-like)--yet unique. Prog pop. Nice way to begin the day. Second song--Lynyrd Skynyrd lite?! Weirdly good
Great songs. The album "Deceptive Bends" which has and starts with "Good Morning Judge", is brilliant from start to finish. It's their best album, IMHO and one you need to hear so, putting my vote in. "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" is one of the best songs from the previous album "How Dare You!" which is great too, just not as strong overall... again, IMHO. Honestly though, 10cc's first 5 albums (10cc to Deceptive Bends) are all great. They all have 4 .5 out of 5 stars everywhere.
Wow, nice set of references you got from these. I knew you'd enjoy these. By the way, I heard the Duran Duran cover of ELO's Evil Woman and thought of you right away. I'm sure you'll love it! th-cam.com/video/WDodrzJk5_k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BUB1liFXSttHUOKR

"Life is a minestrone - served up with Parmesan cheese. Death is a cold lasagna - suspended in deep freeze." The first two lines of the chorus of "Life Is A Minestrone". Leave it to 10cc to write a song which relates elements of our lives to elements of fine cuisine. Profound and absurd at the same time.
