Yes, cricket is definitely a very huge cultural sport in England, but they don't mention loving cricket because they're English, they mention loving cricket because it is also big in Jamaica as well, and they are mentioning things they love about Jamaica, trying in ingratiate themselves towards the Jamaicans mugging them.

I'm sure they do, but in the context of this particular song the character is saying those things to ingratiate himself with the locals in an attempt to not offend them or risk getting himself beaten up.

I saw this group several times back in the day. I didn't like them - I loved them! In their concerts, they did a long medley of reggae songs, as well as their other numerous hits. Don't forget they were one of the very top bands in the UK in the 1970'S. Please check out The Dean and I , Rubber Bullets or many, many more - all fantastic!

10cc are a great English rock band from the 70's. This group was super talented as every member was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer & producer. "I'm Not In Love" was their biggest hit in 1975 but they had other songs such as "The Things We Do For Love", "Rubber Bullets", "The Dean & I", "The Wall Street Shuffle", "Silly Love", "Life Is A Minestrone", "Art For Art's Sake", "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" etc.

West Indies dominated International cricket through the 70s & 80s (did not lose a Test series for 15 years)...and remained strong up to the mid 90s really...and produced some of the greatest players to ever have played the game. Gary Sobers, Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd, Michael Holding, Joel Garner, Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose, Brian Lara, Malcom Marshall too name just a small few.

They're from Manchester in England, but recorded this album in Jamaica - their very catchy song "From Rochdale to Ocho Rios" on the same album talks about their constant travelling between the UK and Jamaica. The band was originally a four-piece but split, with Kevin Godley and Lol Creme leaving to do their own experimental music and Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman re-forming in the band. This song is from after the split, "I'm not in love" was from before - hence the completely different sound. Both sounds are fun IMO.

Lots of good songs from this band, many already mentioned in the comments. I'd suggest: I'm Mandy Fly Me; Silly Love; Life is a Minestrone; The Things We Do For Love; and, Good Morning Judge would be good ones to try. One of their best hits was Art For Art's Sake - the album version is better than the edited single (6 mins instead of 4). Probably my personal favourite is Feel The Benefit, which is heard less often than many of their shorter songs.

Straight from wikipedia: The song was based on real events Eric Stewart and Moody Blues vocalist Justin Hayward experienced in Barbados; and Graham Gouldman experienced in Jamaica. Graham Gouldman commented: "Some of the experiences that are mentioned are true, and some of them are ... fairly true!"[3][4] Stewart recalled seeing a white guy "trying to be cool and he looked so naff" walking into a group of Afro-Caribbeans and being reprimanded, which became the lyric "Don't you walk through my words, you got to show some respect."[5] Another lyric came from a conversation Gouldman had with a Jamaican, who when asked if he liked cricket replied, "No, I love it!".

"Dreadlock Holiday" is parody, like every success of 10 CC.

They're from Manchester in the UK. First band I ever saw live at Wembley back in 1979. So many great songs

10cc recorded at Strawberry Studios in my home town of Stockport. One of our few claims to fame.

It's hard to imagine a more world-class group of songwriters than 10CC.

This is from their Bloody Tourists album ( 1978 ). Absolutely fantastic album. Don't expect all reggae infused tracks, though.

The basis of the song revolves around an encounter experienced by Justin Hayward, singer of the Moody Blues when he was on holiday with Eric Stewart of 10cc in the Caribbean. Hayward, momentarily on his own, was challenged by some threatening locals who took a fancy to his chain which was indeed a present from his mum. Other parts of the lyrics were inspired by sayings noted by co-writer Graham Gouldman. This song should actually be credited to 5CC as two original members Lol Creme and Kevin Godley had by this time left to pursue a more experimental type of music. The song still however retains that intelligent 10CC wit. It was their second number 1 in the UK - the other was of course 'I'm Not In Love'.

Sorry it was their 3rd number one, you forgot Rubber Bullets. Three number 1's with different vocalists

I believe this is partly based on a real experience one of the band members had there

this song was inspired by real events that happened to 10cc's Eric Stewart and Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues when they went on holiday together in Barbados.
