The Major Craft Finetail Glass is a great finesse BFS trout rod. For the price and versatility, the Finetail Glass has given me the best impression for a BFS trout rod in a long time. I am not saying it is THE BEST rod on the market, just an incredible value for the price.
The blank loads easy and casting is smooth. Precise casting is easy and the blank also controls fish quite well through the entire fight. The biggest difference I saw during my time with the Finetail Glass was the rod's ability to keep fish hooked when getting netted. This is usually one of the areas where fish escape the angler.
The wood/metal reel seat is high quality and comfortable. In a variety of holding positions and reels, the reel seat never gave me any issues.
The Major Craft Finetail Glass is one of my favorite rods to use while BFS fishing.
FROM MAJOR CRAFT JAPAN:
Glass rods are "dull and heavy!" a long time ago. The latest UD glass material is crispy and ultra-lightweight, so that it can be mistaken for a carbon rod. Nevertheless, when you cast the lure, there is a glass rod ... Smooth castability while feeling the lure weight firmly. In particular, the bait model can be cast with a sense of security and roominess that is different from carbon rods. Furthermore, when the fish hits, the blanks bend without stagnation. Moreover, it absorbs the pull of large fish well and can land without unnecessary rampage. Please enjoy the fishing taste that is a little different from carbon rods.

Hey HobieWanKenobi!! I’ve been trying to find a way to contact you, I have a question about a rod. I have an Ark Essence rod 6’8” Medium light Regular action, with lure rating of 1/16oz-1/2oz and a 4lb-10lb line rating. I purchased it for my first BFS rod for largemouth fishing. I have it paired with a Shimano SLX BFS reel and 7lb Daiwa Samurai fluorocarbon line. I was hoping you could review it and see what you think of the rod. It’s a great looking rod for the price, I just don’t know what the smallest weight lures it will cast, currently I don’t feel like I get hardly any distance with a 3.5 gram overall weight lure, and about 4 on the brakes is as low as I can go before the spool wants to blow up on me. Do you think I should go down in line size, or is my rod not light enough to toss lures that light? I feel like 1/16oz-1/2oz is a crazy range for a bfs rod, I feel like maybe the rod can only handle 1/4oz or higher lures?
Hey bud - still pumping out nice videos for BFS Fishing as I see.. how would you compare the longer model to the DanKung Glassfin you reviewed a couple of videos before? I got the Finetails a s carbon Version and I am not super happy with its action.. only the tip works most of the time which isnt ideal for casting in small streams.. thats why I am interested in a glas rod.. the question is which one to get... the finetail or the DanKung Glassfin..
thx
Ordered a Finetail Glass after messaging you on Instagram. Got the rod a couple days ago. Seems nice. I plan to get out and use it this weekend. Thanks for the discount code
Hope you enjoy it! The Finetail Glass is one of my favorites.
Great review! I know this doesnt exactly apply but I ordered a similar rod for a spinning reel which i'll use for very light jigs, is there a 4 or 6lb line you would recommend? Would a Varivas 8 strain with a 4lb fluro leader be ideal? Thanks!
Even though I do not have that style of fishing in my area, I still enjoy watching your videos & reviews on BFS stream fishing... 🍺🎣
I appreciate you watching Shane. Short rods can be a blast pond hopping as well
Haha….what a coincidence. I just bought the Finetail glass 4.2 and the Palms Egeria glass 4.2. Both to be used in a very small stream with overhanging trees, bushes an brush. I chose glass to help loading the rod with sub 4 grams hardbaits and help me train flip casts, short range underhand cast and so on. My casting is significantly better with these glass rods in comparison to carbon rods as they load better due to the tip weight of these rods and, very important, it’s not that fast of an action which gives me more control hitting the right release point. The Finetail is quite sensitive and more „carbon-ish“ in its action. I really like both rods and would always recommend them 👍
😂😂😂 I couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching.
Does this rod have a plastic insert under the reel nut so when you tighten the reel down it doesn’t scratch up the reel foot?
Major craft is no longer listed on Digitaka? Any news on that?
like to see some more bfs bass fishing stuff from you. thanks for sharing .
I have some I still need to edit.
Hey great video and timely for me. I just recently got into using BFS gear for trout when I discovered the same baits I've been using for river smallmouth also work for trout. This is sort of off topic but can you comment on right vs. left retrieve. I've been fishing with baitcasters for 40 years. Back when I first started they didn't offer left hand retrieve so my whole life I've been casting right and switching hands to retrieve. At this point in my life I'm too stubborn to change. Did you start out fishing with a left hand retrieve or did you switch from right so that you could get instant engagement for river and stream fishing? If you switched how long did it take you to adjust?
I use left hand for streams fishing for the instant engagement. Open water, I have no preference. I cast with my right hand most times in a stream.
I know this is a late comment, but I keep a couple LH BFS reels and the rest of my reels, BFS or no are RH. When I know where I'm fishing, I decide which hand is going to be doing most of the casting and I set my rod up for that. It's a huge advantage to be able to not switch hands in close quarters stream fishing, so having both as an option is awesome. All told, I prefer RH retrieve, but some locations just require right handed casting, and so a LH reel or two really comes in handy.
I find the Finetail's rod are so strong for trout fishing in BFS, I prefer the Rayz Integral Casting 484b ul and l or the BST rods of Smith. The Jetsetter 46C The Twig Tulala is very good too. Have you try Fiberglass rod in BFS ?
Thanks for the review! How does this compare to the Daiwa Silver Creek Glass Progressive 51LB-G you reviewed last year? I have the Daiwa and love it for the multi-piece factor (makes it a whole lot easier to travel with compared to the 1-pc 5' BFS rod I built from a Batson e-glass blank) but I find it a bit stiff for the small trout streams I fish in the Sierras.
The Finetail Glass is softer for sure. I think it compliments the Glass Progressive perfectly. Finetail Glass for smaller fish, Glass Progressive for bigger fish
@@HobieWanKenobi is there a reason you went with the 4’6” vs the 4’10”? I do like the smidge extra reach my 5’ gives me, but wanted your take on it.
I have a lot of rods longer than 4'6" 😂.
Thanks for your testing, I wanted to ask you, have you ever tried the 5-piece trekking finetail (casting)?
it was my intention to take a rod to fish trout and chub in Italy.
many thanks in advance
I have not use that rod. Look into the Jetslow Twig BFS trout rod. It is a great travel rod
I live here in Japan and have the 4'2" / 4'8" travel version.
Have been using the 4”10 heavier one for 2 years now and hooked multiple 5pound+ pike and brown trout and its pretty versitile but i cant throw weights less than like 2.5g comfortably with that one (aldebaran 2023 bfs) using 5-8g is a blast tho super nice distance and good control of bigger fish but also fun with less than 1 pound fish. Overall i think its a safe pick of an bfs rod especially the 4”6 one which sits right in the middle. How low weigths can You confortably cast with that one and how far?
I am not sure to maximum distance but, 2gr is comfortable. 3gr feels better though
How does it compare to the Dankung white fiberglass rod? If you had to pick one which one would you go with?
Different types of rods to me. The Dankung has more power and a faster action. The Finetail Glass is more.moderate and lighter powered. Both rods twitch lurs well, with a slight edge to the Dankung. Short range casting I like the Finetail Glass more because of the softer casting
I am using a Fishman Beams Blancsierra 3,9 UL Limited with a Silver Creek and Roro spool. Also User a Silver Creek Stream twitch 48ULB with another Silver Creek and Roro Spool. Love the Short Rods. I am still not sure if i should buy a Glas rod 😅
The 3'8" Finetail Glass is a blast to use
Hello. How does this compare to The DANKUNG Glassfin rod? Because I have FSG-B462UL and still interested in to some Glassfin model
Glassfin is faster action and a little more power.
What is the comparison MC Fine Tail to the Shimano Trout One or Cardiff NX..The Palms rod..?
Trout One NS is more sensitive and faster action being carbon. It is also lighter. The Palms is slower action and less power
I use a KINGDOM Steam King UL 4ft7” 1-6g 3 Section travel rod, coupled with a Tsurinoya Dark Wolf K50S and 4lbs (0.14Ø) mainline for Wild Brown Trout in the UK.
Some of the brown trout in the UK can get pretty big
Just reciceved It last week and paired with the fishband tender shoot. Super combo. I mainly fish Rivers chubs (not many trouts here ) and hard tested It with some medium size bass.
That Tender Shoot is a surprise to me. Has some flaws but, good overall.
@@HobieWanKenobi yeah but for 150€ its amazing. Now i want an upgrade. What do you prefer between cq23, aldebaran and silver creek? I mainly fish in small Rivers for Chubs with 2-3g minnows.
Conquest BFS or Silver Creek. The Aldebaran can be a little wild for stream fishing. Digitaka has them in stock. Most recent discount code is 79J
@@BfsManiaget the CC 23. I‘m a die hard DAIWA fanboy in general, but the CC blew my mind. So much, that I‘m willing to adopt to the FTB brake system with its particular requirements (e.g. precise balancing of spool tension and magnetic brake for each different lure). I love and prefer DAIWAs air brake and SV spool technology as its far more easygoing (basically set and forget) but this CC is a pure pleasure to hold in your hand. I paired the CC 23 with my Palms Egeria Native glass and the Fishband Tender Shoot (Chinese clone of CC 23) with the Majorcraft Finetail glass. This is so much fun….
The Conquest BFS is very nice. I'd say the Tender Shoot is a BFS Chinese clone of the Daiwa Millionaire.
Hi there! Can you review PALMS Sylpher SYCVi-53UL?
I am not sure if I will end up getting that rod.
I use a custom built 5'0" 3 piece glass rod 0.5-4g 1-4lb, a Kuying Teton TTC 522SUL 0.8-3g 1-3lb, Abu Garcia 100th Anniversary 3 piece 1.5 -7g 2-6lb and 3 reels, the Daiwa ASC, Abu 2500C (Avail modded) and the DWU V1.
Pretty decent lineup you have there
Do a kastking kestrel review?
Hello there, nice review on the majorcraft glass bfs, super rods,
In regards with the ss air tw recall can you please make an video about, will be very helpful!Cheers!
I think it was only reels that sold outside of Japan (like retailers in China). Some material in the side plate was not compliant in China. Says it shouldn't affect reels sold from Japan.
many thanks!
No problem
Dobyns Ultra finesse 650 paired with a Daiwa Silver Creek Custom and 6# Seaguar Invizx
What clips do you like and what size?
Jackson Size 00
Hi Hobie….is this code still valid or do you have a new one? I think about buying a Gekabijin Air TW and would appreciate some discount….
N95 is the most recent code. My Instagram always has the most recent discount code
@@HobieWanKenobi I’ve checked your Instagram account but I could not see any code for Digitaka. Do you happen to still have one?
I like that you compared using the 3'8" grip to a lightsaber... 😂
Just seemed like a natural comparison 😂
Im curious as to why bfs rods are so short
It’s compact for casting in tight streams and rivers, and I believe it helps with the sensitivity you need to flick cast and pitch etc
@@c.decostamedia right but fly fishing rods are long
Fly rods need to cast the line so, it's a little more dependent on the rod's length to get distance. Short rods for BFS helps with accuracy and stays out of tight brushy areas.
Review sawa-d x light rod..
I can't review all the rods out there 😂.
Long time no see
It has been a while hasn't it
@@HobieWanKenobi certainly has, I like your presentation style
@@yep.fishing Thanks. Hoping to put videos out a little more consistently
Whats your favorite bfs glass trout rod?
Why do yo have to ask such a tough question haha
Trout master
Hook point to the front when in open waters/snags are rare. Hook point to the rear if around a lot of wood and such
Oh no. Link is gone
