@@onedumbgamer9672 I'd say that It Has To Be This Way is in the same sort of boat as What I'm Made Of from Sonic, where the lyrics are applicable for both the player character and the boss.
1:57 You thought that was cool, huh? Imagine blocking a giant robot's blade arm when that part hits, then throwing said robot into the air and cutting that arm off before it hits the ground. That's what happens in the game.
man the lack of the videos is saddening. RULES OF NATURE followed by Raiden literally flinging a Metal Gear Ray into the air before running up its arm to cut it to pieces is ICONIC
@@drewholmes7356 while true to a part. Music needs to be heard in context of it's setting to be properly judged holistically. This is due to how sound, visual and setting plays all major parts of how we humans remember and understand things. And always remember, that music, is just a macro of a meme when you zoom out, and when it comes to gaming music, that meme/idea, contains the music in context of how it is used in the game, and the highlights when it plays. This is why when rules of nature kicks in, EVERY ONE in the comments section recall Raiden parrying, picking up Ray, and throwing it. They are recalling a macro meme of the song and game.
Very cool analysis. Gotta say never noticed the subtle reference on "Rules of Nature" until you point it out, i guess the game adrenaline rush never allowed for me to notice. Also, the genre of the MGR soundtrack is a modern type of Industrial Metal in case anyone is wondering, a good band reference i'd say is "Blue Stahli - Down in Flames"

@@tooth1539 the collective conciousness and the rules of nature told the composer he will remain a stranger to the metal - like music, but after the war stopped raging inside his soul(which can't be cut, the only thing he knew for real) and he stood under the red sun with the hot wind blowing he decided to wash away the stains of time and be his own master.
Risk of rain 2 recently got a new dlc called Seekers of the Storm with some of the hardest guitar solos I've ever heard that I think you'd totally headbang to. They're made by the same guy (Chris Christodoulou) who made the tracks from your first video and have a similar epic otherworldly feel. My personal favorite from the album is "Oṃ Maṇi Padme Hūṃ, part I," but the entire track is definitely worth checking out. Also big fan of Metal Gear, was waiting for you to drop this banger since the livestream!!
so nice to have diwa weigh in on the songs of this game! how many times have I heard rules of nature but not picked up on how similar it is to the main theme of metal gear solid despite listening to that theme even more! this is why we need such expertise on music even if they are songs we are familiar with, I am not as familiar with I am my own master now but I love how he picked up on the influences of the song from irish jigs to how it resembles music from ultrakill, stranger I remain ironically enough I don't think I have heard before but I liked what I heard from the key changes to the harmonies in the vocals and even the bits of symphonic metal, all very dope! hope he does more from this game in the future!
As intense as "I'm My Own Master Now" is, it'll always make me tear up a little, knowing the backstory of the character whose theme it is, and what its lyrics truly mean to him. Your little snippet of improv over it only intensified those emotions, really captured the grief and frustration that character feels at his situation.
Stranger I Remain is definitely my favorite from the soundtrack. The way the symphonic parts weave in with the electronic/metal parts portrays her character perfectly. The piano melodies humming in the background are definitely the reason it takes number one for me. 🤘
You're finally reacting to Metal Gear Rising Revengeance music! Wait... I just searched your channel and you apparently streamed it 4 months ago. I feel so ashamed that I missed it!
From what I understand about the music of Metal Gear Rising, the composer for vocal tracks took what the singer did, and made the melody around that, instead of the other way around. He also wasn't scared at all to do key changes to match the vocals, you hear that in the final song It Has to Be This Way, where he changes keys like 4 times in rapid succession. And as you see in A Stranger I Remain, he shifted to B since the singer couldn't sing that bar in the same key. Also he composed the toontown online soundtrack and this was his first time doing metal. He knocked it out of the park for his first time.
Funnily enough, my first exposure to the MGR:R soundtrack was thanks to an old Frozen YTP I watched years ago called "Elsa Lets Her Sanity Go". The vocal themes are so hype, and are also adaptive to the boss fights they play in. This also led to the "Rules of Nature Goes with Everything" meme, where people took a clip of something and lined up the chorus drop at just the right moment, like it does in the game. *(Also, to anyone who decides to watch the YTP, be careful if you're sensitive to flashing lights, because IT FLASHES LIKE THE DICKENS!)*
very good analysis of tracks, I liked that you analyze and compare with other MGS tracks, or with classics and other directions in music. I really liked your "Takatakataka", it helps to understand what moment we are talking about, but it is also cool. Thanks for the work
This game has so many good sound tracks like Stains of Time, Redsun, The Only Thing I Know for Real, and Standing Here they’re all so good and you also have hot winds blowing and collective consciousness which are MY bottom two for boss themes but they’re still very good.
I feel like that one part in “stranger I remain” they just kind of couldn’t figure out what to have her say after the breakdown so they just had her say come again lol
Oh man 1:54 is such a banger of a beat drop. Especially the first time you play. You’re fighting a metal gear Ray, the biggest bad of the series up to this point. You’ve been sprinting around taking small chunks out of it for 3-4 minutes now out of this 40 ft tall robot and then your helper Boris yells “Stop that blade!” Before the Ray turns its arm into a giant sword and brings it down on your head. You hit the QTE prompt and stop the sword with your own right as lyrics cut in… *”RULES OF NATURE THEY RUN WHEN THE SUN COMES UP”*. Not only do you catch the blade you then grab the arm and just HURL the robot over your shoulder far into the air, then JUMP UP TO IT, swinging your sword chopping its arm up before coming down and cleaving the whole arm off. It is such a well crafted set piece that I will remember till I die it was that good. I’m not any good at that genre of character action/hacknslash but dmc5 and mgr made me like it
all the mgrr tracks represent the motivations of the character you're fighting, A Stranger I Remain. is Mistral's theme, and represents that killing is all she's ever known and that she's a stranger even to herself that only knows how to wield a blade but when mgrr was in a playtest stage all the tracks weren't finished but unlike the others who just had their mixing refined for release, A Stranger I Remain had it's lyrics mostly rewritten and has a very different meaning, it originally said "i've come here to save you, and I can already taste the kill, like caressing an angel, burning up in the atmosphere, with the blood of a dying star above, my true aesthetics unwinding and i'm about to come undone" and the chorus was "so don't let me become one you love, cause' i'll just take your blood and use you up, i know it's tempting to jump off the edge and fly but this is not a dream, so don't let me become one you love"
I'd love to note that the main lyrics in most of songs play when you FEEL that the song would feel good with lyrics in THIS place. Rules of Nature - Raiden fighting a comically big robot with a comically big sword; A Stranger I Remain - when Mistral and Raiden descend onto the main battlefield.
