My EVO 8 is my first ever foray into the world of USB interfaces. I plugged in a microphone (an old AKG C1000S, and turned Phantom power on of course) and listened to my own voice via headphones. Meh, I thought, I'd never get to sell any records! I don't need to, I'm retired! :) But then, with Cakewalk running, and the proper ins and outs set, I turned the "Echo" on for the audio track. And then put in a reverb plugin, Sonitus for Cakewalk, into the track. Wow, what a huge difference! I almost fell off my chair! Seemed like the volume went up double or more! The sensitivity of the mic shot up and I could even hear the creaking of the chair I was sitting on! Unbelievable! It is a fascinating mystery, this audio technology. I didn't even turn the Loopback feature on; in fact I have to figure that out from an Audient video. By the way I got an EVO 8, found the microphone output to be so pathetic, Sweetwater so kindly and quickly sent me a replacement. The replacement is far better, but as I said above, without the "echo on" and the reverb features, don't expect to sell any records, haha! Oh the DAW you use may have its own tricks. As for me, Cakewalk is like, um, a piece of cake! Last June I got a Mackie USB mixer, the ProFX6V3. It is superb, but the reverb settings are nothing to brag about; aside from that, it is excellent, esp. the Mic preamps. The USB is 2 out, 2 in; whereas the EVO 8 is 4 out, 4 in. The Allen and Heath ZEDi 10-FX mixer ($280) also has 4 out, 4 in USB. Oh, and Macke has just released a brand new Onyx8 mixer, $500, with 4 out, 4 in.
Hi Raja. I'm a old studio user and always have PCI audio cards. Now, cause Win10 and the lack of PCI on almost all motherboards.... i have to change.... not so exited because of the USB latency.... But you says that the gain is not nice with Dynamics mics ? you have tested SSL2+ ? ID 14 ? and finally you advice Mackie ou A&H ZEDi ? theses are USB 2 so.... latency... aïe... Do you have a final advise now ? Thank you !
@@dawoud8013 not sure at all about " final advice!" USB interfaces are pretty much for RECORDING into a computer. I'd say the old sound cards are extinct now. I use my USB Mackie mixer, and also the new EVO 8, for practicing vocals and to record. As regards USB latency, good quality products have very low latency; you can hardly sense it.
@@OnlineMD Oki thank you ! i have found others comments about the lack of input level for dynamics mics.... i have lot the product.... but it was a USB interface too....
@@dawoud8013 I have a Shure Beta SM58 and two regular Shure SM58 mics. Also an AKG C1000S condenser mic. I have no need for a new mic, as I am an amateur vocalist; what I am is a retired doctor, in the USA! :) :) :) But the microphones sound wonderful when I sing into them via my Mackie mixer. But with a USB interface, like my EVO 8, the voice is kind of plain, but once enriched in volume and reverb by plugins on a DAW, sounds like from the Mackie mixer.
The auto input level is a great feature. There's good competition at this price point - the Tascam US-4x4HR sells for the same price, has 4 ins and outs, and also has MIDI. So if you need MIDI, that's a no brainer. If you don't need MIDI and will never need MIDI, the auto input level might make this box the winner.
Nice video, thanks! Interesting interface at an attractive price: But who came up with the strange idea that the speaker outputs are muted when you plug in headphones? I don't want to plug and unplug headphones all the time and I often switch between monitor speakers and headphones.
@@OnlineMD Ummm, that's not what he asked. When headphones are PLUGGED IN, the speakers are muted and he doesn't want to keep unplugging headphones to hear his monitors!
Hi, thanks for your interest! Yes, you can manually set your gain levels on the EVO interfaces. The Smartgain feature will only engage if you press the button to activate it. If you don’t do that, you can just select the input whose gain you want to adjust by pressing its corresponding button, then use the main knob to set the gain for that input. I hope this helps a bit - feel free to contact me directly with any further questions, and thanks again! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620

hello, I would like to buy a sound card for my windows operating system, I can spend a maximum of 260 euros, which one do you propose? i have seen audient id14, presonaus 68c, i would like your recommendations, i its very vst plugin and i would like to buy a synth and a drum machine tr8s, how should they be connected? thanks
Hi. I was wondering, I have an audient evo 8, and i have it hooked up via PC with studio monitors connected in "1" with TRS cables in the back, and headphones connected to "1" in the front. I have a mic hooked up to "1" on the left back and a keyboard plugged in the back on the left in "2". I tried recording, and everything was recorded fine. However, while I'm playing the keyboard and even the mic, I can't hear anything back. I even tried unplugging my headphones to see if I can hear them through my studio monitors and nothing comes out. I can't figure this out as I've always used Focusrite. Audient Evo seems a bit harder to figure out. I even tried plugging my headphones into my studio monitors and still nothing comes out. But when I record, it plays back
