My father died of bowel obstruction in 2016. He was originally diagnosed with Hiatal Hernia. In a period of 20 years, he had 4- Mesh replacement's in his abdominal. The Mesh kept ripping open and his hernia's would come through the mesh opening's. A few day's before his death, the surgeon found that the mesh had detached itself from the abdominal wall and had wrapped around his intestine's. The surgeon had to remove over 2-feet of my father's intestine's and removed the tangled mesh. In less than 24 hours, my father died in my arm's. Before agreeing to ANY Mesh Surgery or Replacement Mesh Surgery, I urge you to do your research. There are many manufacturers who produce this Mesh. Choose wisely and ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK before agreeing to ANY SURGERY.
I’m a 24 yr old female & was told I have a 5cm hiatal hernia & currently don’t know what to do about it. I don’t know if I should get surgery or continue to just take medication for my symptoms. If u don’t mind me asking how big was his hernia & if u have any advice about this whole topic I would greatly appreciate it thanks.
I am really afraid. I am going through the same problem. Watching and going through the comments make feel sad. The pain is really hurt and I have not done the surgery. I went to a private hospital where it was diagnosed. I am worried for my life.
@@carewsdesigns Did you have a mesh put in? If not, on utube you can find several videos with exercises to do to keep the hernia's in place. That's what I did. I'm still looking for a wrap around for the hernia that is made for women. They're all made for men and are too big.
Good morning Doctors! This was very informative. I had to have a Hernia operation here in Phoenix, Az. by the VA. Hospital; I would say in Jan. 2019. I opted for the Mesh, reluctantly. The operation was located on the lower left abdomen just above the growing. So far, so good. I haven't had any real issues at all. I'm at the present 71 years old and so far I feel really well for my age. I'm a Plant Base Vegan in which I feel plays an important part about the way I heeled. I'll be 72 on the 24th of November. And as previously stated I feel pretty good. The Hernia itself started off as a spall golfball size lump. Needless to say it scared the living crap out me that morning I first noticed it. I had to go to work that day. After work I went straight to the Emergency room of the VA. I was told what it was. Because of all the bad press about the mesh, I was reluctant. I spent one night in the hospital and was sent home the next morning. I do think if I was still a flesh eater I would have had a lot more problems with it. May Good Bless you both! By the way, I'm from Cleveland, born and raised. I Graduated in June 1971 from Thomas A. Edison High School on 71 Ave. and Hough. I miss my hometown sometime; and I'm about to move back real soon. I agree with General Surgery Doctors doing a poor job in risks of hernia surgery. I asked mine till I was blue in the face & told no issues with mesh and natural repair would be a lot more risky. Now I'm in constant pain and have foreign body feeling for the last 4 years. From my perspective I wish the doctor would of done natural repair or found someone vs having the Dr do it.
Look into Dr Tomas's clinic in florida, he uses the desarda method instead so he doesn't use mesh and they've been able to remove and repair bad mesh repairs.
The problem is American doctors are out of practice and untrained in non mesh repairs so they rightfully dont feel comfortable doing it. However that leaves us to face long term risk of plasticmesh in our body.
So sorry for you! I have struggled with this issue as well concerning my three hernias. The result has been no surgery for me for four years now. Just don't want to hurt my body that way without a fairly good promise of success.
Three here. And I don't worry too much. Just some days I have to do some exercises on my back to pop them back in when they try to sneak out. The best one is the shoulder stand. You lie on your back and slowly lift your legs, then lower part of your body up in the air, while supporting it with both your hands. Don't have to do it real good, but the posture always takes away the lump and the pain. While up there I do the bicycle, the yoga leg drop and stretching my legs in different ways.
Thank you, This was very helpful. My hernia is in the groin but the last two days has went from golf ball to baseball size but last night got real hard from my groin to my waist and across my belt line all together about 18" long and hard. Ii recall mostly males having groin and umbilical hernias. I don't ever recall hearing a female having groin hernia? Often it's where the testicular tubes pass through the abdominal wall. I recall females more than males having haital hernias.
There’s another hernia that you haven’t mention is one that I have is parastoma hernia , in which I have , I have a grapefruit size hernia which I get nauseous all the time , I can walk to long which I use to walk 10 km with no problem now I have a hard time to do 4 km . what if a weightlifting athlete is diagnosed with a hiatal hernia? doc says to just stop lifting weights. but his life is depending on lifting weights. can he continue his sport after the surgery, if he undergoes one?
I knew a guy who lifted weights constantly. He told the reporter his BMI was 15 percent and he wasn't sure if any sport trained person got their BMI to zero but that he would try. The headline quoted him as refuting what he perceived as the general perception by public by saying " We Are Not Egotistical Bums "

Hi, l' be got a heanus hernia. My stomach burns, get cramping pain, stings , nauseated , heartburn. I sometimes have to push it back in. Sometime I feel like a pull muscle creeping on my stomach wall.
I don't know how a hernia can be prevented? They just happen from wear and tear and doing things. I've had both groins and umbilical hernias and Doctor explained it's like when you see the cords of a tire that come apart and an inner tube pokes through? It's probably the most common surgery among males and in the old days men just wore trusses and supports more often and lived with it.
I have one question. Can you do side and front split stretching exercises with inguinal hernia? I generally do them every day, so far i haven't noticed to have negative effects on the hernia. However, just to be on the safe side, i would like to know if i can keep doing them. Thank you!
I stretch my legs everyday, and I’ve been stretching for the past 20 years. My surgeon told me that I could continue stretching with an inguinal hernia. However, my hernia was small.
I had a Laporscopic Inguinal Hernia repair on my right side with mesh done in 2020. It went great. 3 weeks ago I started getting pain in my left side. The stabbing pains in the groin in the morning and the reliving of the same thing every morning really get intense. For the first time in my 50 years of living, I'm really thinking of killing myself. I definitely got these Hernias at work, but since this is the second Hernia I've had on the job, my employer says I will possibly be fired if I report it as work related. That means I'm left to pay for a surgery myself, and it costs more than 6 months of my pay.
I have hurnia and stomach ulser what can be done doctors have left me for years just found out 2 days ago hurnia is 37cm to 40cm and too biopsy waiting for results I'm scared incase its cancer if so can they be treated
Since 2001 I have had 14 hernia repairs. The mesh they used would open and the hernias would "pop" through. Also I had a lot of pain with the synthetic mesh so in 2011 I had all the old mesh replaced with mesh made from a pig. BUT after researching this kind of mesh I found out it is only good for about 8 years and then breaks down, so guess what...I have another hernia but what it has done was the pig mesh has stretched out and now I have a very large bulge on my right side. So back in 2019 I was scheduled for surgery but because of the "C" virus I cancelled it. I am so tired of surgeries...and I may need another because of my diverticulitis and they will have to repair this hernia also. SIGH
Stay away. Don't let them do it. When you have multiple abdominal surgeries you are at much higher risk of later getting a twisted colon. Which is not fun and can be fatal.
i have these symptoms.when i push it back in it seems to come out somewhere else .i havent had a bm in a few days and im barely passing gas. im not nausea or throwing up though and it burns like crazy to pee. im 49 and a lifelong skater,i was an ironworker for 28yrs.can i get bionic stomach muscles? jk its been 3 days and i feel better but do i need surgery?
I'm 25 and obese I noticed my belly button started to hurt a few days ago but the pain only lasted for one night now my umbilical cord is out more than it usually is but it's not visible and it's not painful but it's not fun having a hernia at 25 I really got to get this weight off
I've had femoral hernia and umbilical, now I have ventral hernia and abdominal both my wall muscle is missing so I'm walking around with a hernia the size of cantaloupe it sucks. I've had bowel obstruction but I've been walking around with it for 13 years now also I've had laproscopicly nothing helps.
Surely a dr wouldn’t operate if the patient complained of groin discomfort/pain and he attributed this to a hernia when it was a torn muscle, if the dr couldn’t see evidence of a hernia, why would he operate?
I believe it's a weak muscle that tears, allowing some of the intestines to come through. They say yes, it is usually hereditary. Anyone can get it; even babies do.
I think this certainly helps, a high fiber diet. Probably depends on the type of hernia and also would be more effective if done before than after. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, high fiber logically makes sense that it would help.
For me, if I am constipated or have lots of gas I get intense pains (strangely very tolerable for me) and the bulge is there until after I use the bathroom. Then complete relief.
I had a umbilical hernia had op to put mesh in and had another op to have the mesh taken out as I had sepsis. I still have the hernia but I have ibs on top I have pain with it at times
Your comment made me laugh like crazy. Any Doctor that would chew tobacco probably doesn’t work at Cleveland Clinic. He may have a cough drop in his mouth since his right jaw looks larger than the left. Can’t believe I am analyzing the Doctor.

SIGH
You are healed in the name of my Lord Jesus
Mesh doesn't work!!!! 8th hernia repair, 6 surgery.
Thanks very much!!!
Wonderful information …I think I may have one or two…..Gastroenteroligist …..???
Surely a dr wouldn’t operate if the patient complained of groin discomfort/pain and he attributed this to a hernia when it was a torn muscle, if the dr couldn’t see evidence of a hernia, why would he operate?
The torn muscle is what starts the process. Eventually, something will poke through it.
What cause an hernia and who’s prone to get it; and is it hereditary?
I believe it's a weak muscle that tears, allowing some of the intestines to come through. They say yes, it is usually hereditary. Anyone can get it; even babies do.
Can a groin hernia be repaired under spinal anesthesia?
Have one
thanks
does anyone ever have the hernia that dropped
That was very interesting
excellent..
Very good video.
Please show some vdos we are another language
if you eat to keep regular bowel movement will this keep the bulge down ?
I think this certainly helps, a high fiber diet. Probably depends on the type of hernia and also would be more effective if done before than after. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, high fiber logically makes sense that it would help.
For me, if I am constipated or have lots of gas I get intense pains (strangely very tolerable for me) and the bulge is there until after I use the bathroom. Then complete relief.
I had a umbilical hernia had op to put mesh in and had another op to have the mesh taken out as I had sepsis. I still have the hernia but I have ibs on top I have pain with it at times
When you have a hernia do you lose weight
I had hernia surgery in 2017 recovery was fine but why do a large bulge in my stomach I look like I'm carrying soccer ball. I only weigh about 100lbs

are you chewing tobac o
Your comment made me laugh like crazy. Any Doctor that would chew tobacco probably doesn’t work at Cleveland Clinic. He may have a cough drop in his mouth since his right jaw looks larger than the left. Can’t believe I am analyzing the Doctor.
Dude smacked his lips about 200 times. I dislike that they teach that practice in speech class it's annoying
Bro

It COULD be. It SOUNDS like it. Haha when I first went to a small series of doctors for diagnosis not one of them even wanted to look at the areas in question. They were ready to operate though! Kind of gets your tentacles up.
