You mentioned the portals that you would develop would be more street oriented vs the existing portals.. which ive seen. I believe theyre made by a german company. I saw their youtube channel. Will yours be more affordable than those?
Yup the company is LeTech. They mostly make those portals for rescue/emergency services vehicles. They're quite awesome but definitely will put a massive hole in most wallets
Your stuff is so much nicer than the crappy Harker Outdoors camper I recently purchased. I should have followed my gut and went with you guys instead of the crappy camper company. Nothing but bs and issues with the Harker camper.
Thought thoughts. 1. Seems like you dont want the heavy duty bumper/bar to be so close to an interference with fragile OEM systems. Some "sudden deceleration event" is inevtable, on or off road. 2. Rather than gearing and portals... why not just fit a diesel or electric driveline. Something with way more torque. That BMW engine is not a great choice for an off road truck. It's good at things that dont matter and bad at things that do, off road.
Please excuse my ignorance but what are portals? Let me tell you, though, before I am pelted with rotten eggs and tomatoes, that English is not my mother language. TIA
Gearboxes at the ends of the axle that reduce the gearing and move the centerline of the wheel to below the center line of the axle. Unimogs are probably the most known vehicle for having them. They’re generally not common.
@@The11901More fundamentally, portal axles elevate the entire vehicle without having to a) fit larger heavier wheels and tires; b) use an inherently dangerous suspension lift kit that increases the tendency of the vehicle to tip over or multiply various physics; and c) invade Russia or otherwise drive over very rough terrain with no roads or terrible roads. Commonly found on military vehicles or the very-most capable 4WDs, like, the Unimog. (Which was originally designed to accomplish all of the above, and more. For example you don't want tractor sized tires to create lift as it adds too much mass; and you don't want a mere suspension lift ie taller springs, as it adds too much unwanted roll or rebound; but you do want to fit a backhoe attachment and also be able to ford shallow rivers or articulate through random ditches.)
@@irtnycportal axles don’t actually serve to reduce roll. Like straight axle on blocks vs portal is no change. That benefit often attributed to unimogs is from their torsional flexible frame. Unimogs were also originally designed strictly from non military use, at least that’s the Germans claim. Also you could install portals upside down and they’d still be portals. But yea as for WHY use portals, what you said is reasonable. I’d also add drive train stress reduction.
There's nothing wrong with the B58, other BMW engines may have gotten that unreliable reputation but it's pure ignorance to assume the B58 is the same. It has proven itself to be quite reliable globally. Parts are readily available all over the world as well
That bull bar design does rip! Awesome trail footage. Thanks!
Very nice comparison :)
Ineos has just announced it’s bringing a portal model to market…
Portals Please!!!
Ya we definitely want portals for the grenadere
Even prior to this video IG are considering offering portals on their own directly
This is currently my dilemma! Either a 2015-17 g wagon or a Grenadier 🤔
Where can I find details of your fuel tank skid plate? Thanks.

Absolutely! That's the plan!
If you drive same route with modern G Wagon.. the base will not survive of rocks hit

We appreciate that! Feel free to reach out if you're ever considering switching over to us!

@@The11901 thanks!
@@irtnyc thanks! Much appreciated.
that is easy the g wagon much easer to operate and it has NOT an BMW engine
