Never wore Sitka gear and we build our pits or blinds out of the cheapest shit we could get at home depot and out of the natural surroundings. We whack hundreds of birds a year no problem. I also have clients we take out that will spend 5 grand on a new shotgun, a case of Hevi branded shells, and the best camo just to sit in a blind thinking it will make a difference. I'm still shooting a 20 year old Beretta AL391 and shoot the cheapest steel that will pattern good out of it. The only real money I spend is on good calls. Public land birds are a whole different story, they are use to being shot (sky busted at more like it) at after the first week and listening to guys with poor calling skills and sound like they are blowing a kazoo and they usually have a federal refuge near by to go loaf in, that's at least the case for the big duck parks in Mo.
Hate that sticky deep mud. Bought some velcro boot straps this year that you cinch over your boot and around your ankles (outside the boot) and it REALLY helps keep your feet in your wader boots. Best $8 i ever spent. Highly recommend

Down here in Alaska we hunt regular ducks and costal ducks during fall but during spring we only hunt the costal ducks like white winged scoters and we also hunt tundra swans, sandhill cranes and speckled belly geese.

Just smoked a batch of goose jerky tonight. For 8 goose breasts, cut into strips with the grain no wider than the width of my pinky, I did a marinade of 4 cans of coca cola, half bottle of sweet baby rays bbq, 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 1/4 cup worcestershire sauce, couple spoonfuls of minced garlic and a small handful of red pepper flakes. Then I drained drained it, used sweet and spicy jerky cure and seasoning from a local store. Let it sit for 2 days then smoked at 200 degrees for a little over 2 hours. Best jerky I've made from waterfowl so far by a long shot👍
It may sound crazy but, put any over dried jerky in a zip lock bag with a piece or 2 of bread for a few days and you will be amazed at how tender it makes the jerky, and you will have some very flavorful pieces of toast
