I thought Soda Popinsky was relatively easy, he took me far less tries than Sandman, or even Bald Bull 2.0. Still, that method to beat him is awesome and indeed far easier, and I gotta love a gameplayer with a sense of humor.

I swear, his laugh haunts my dreams as of recent. I beat OG punch out a while ago and started playing again recently and let me tell you. I hate soda with every fiber of my being. The amount of times I’ve heard that laugh. It’s amazing you could do it so fast
I used this trick back in the day and I never was able to get him with a third uppercut. I would do this for the first two knockdowns and then fight him normally for the last one.
I think the reason is that after a minute, it takes way more punches to stun him. The golden rule for me is 6 punches, then star uppercut him if he’s still stunned. He never breaks out of stun if you do 6 or more punches in a row.
@Herreken It IS unblockable, what he said was partially right, if you block when he crouches to do an uppercut, he will stay in that position for a few seconds, time in wich you can get the gutter in for the star.
You don't need to stun him out of the uppercut, you get two stars, and then buffer your own uppercut while holding down (block) after you get the second star. He'll let you uppercut him for all 3 knockdowns.
The funniest part is my FIRST time watching this video after Pop dodges the 3rd Star Punch I said OH YOU SOB!!!!! before I saw it on the screen!! Well Done!!!!

I think the trick is "stick and move" or move and stick like Doc keeps saying. Since he ignored enough of Soda's punches, my guess is that's why he blocked that one uppercut. But still... I love this strategy!! :D
to land a third uppercut without him dodging it,you have to do what you did for the 1st and 2nd uppercuts,except you have to do it AFTER he recovers. works for me.

If they were the same size, you wouldnt be able to see the opponent, Mac would have had to be rendered translucent in order to see the opponent. To do that in a visually acceptable fashion was beyond the limits of the good old 8-bit hardware of the time.
I can't get him to quit dodgeing the last one. I'm getting tired of having to go back and fight Piston Honda over and over again. This video did really help me though. At least i got him down twice. I may have to finish him just by fighting him on my own though. Thanks for the help though!

Soda Popinski is one of those characters in this game you love to hate , but he has a really cool name .
