These guys have forgotten about the wide FOV lens for the original Crystal. They even asked us for more money for this lenses which a lot of us paid and yet they don’t want to work on them. Come on guys! Finish what you started.
Why focus on their one competitive advantage (wide FOV) when they could give us a barely noticeable clarity boost and a monthly subscription nobody asked for?

Based on history, it will most likely be 57 PPD version as the flagship. Pimax can't handle multiple SKUs, their QC crumbles the moment they offer two or more products at one time. People who ordered those wide fov lenses on the OG Crystal still haven't got theirs and the product isn't up to par. They've moved on.
@danceoffAsh that's true, sadly. But still I wish they could improve and offer Crystal Super with 50PPD/135HFOV as a separate product. I don't really want to buy lenses or optical system I'll probably never use...
Yes 50ppd will be 135 and 57ppd is already 120. Measured myself this week with testHMD and FOVs are real indeed. The engineers are still tweaking and improving the 50ppd lenses and profiles, but already now its 130+ from what I have measured myself. All horizontal FOV, of course.
@@SweViverso the crystal super has real 120 degree horizontal? Or only the pimax advised fov like on the normal crystal. There it was so much smaller than advertised

What about those of us who already reserved the Pimax Crystal Super - Super bundle, which is supposed to include BOTH the QLED and Micro OLED modules? Is that no longer available?
It's no longer available. I checked, and it's no longer listed. Apparently, they refunded the .99 reservation fee on mine in May when I checked my pimax account. Apparently, that was one month before the June beta test of the new version of the super when they realized they'd have to make changes.
@@StuartBoyer Well that sucks. Pimax already has a shady reputation and has done this kind of stuff in the past, so this does it for me. I'm passing... they need to get their $h!t together as a company.

What i want to see happen for your company is to make its own high quality controllers or haptic gloves even. Looking forward to my purchase mid December.
If you pay full price that's it but if you pay just the initial purchase price then you have to make the 24-month pimax play payments too. This is basically like a down payment and monthly payments on a car vs full-out paying for one. Same concept, but making the monthly payment is cheaper than paying for it all at once surprisingly. Once the 24 months is up that's it its all paid for.
The resolution is spread over a much wider FOV on the 12K, so the pixel density and PPD is higher on the 57ppd Super. In others words, the perceived resolution.
I have tried lots of different top strap adjustable clamps and have still always found that a simple front to back top strap works best, for me anyway. Hopefully this will be an included option with the Super. I'm looking forward to my preordered Super OLED (not QLED) with pancake lens. Thanks for your update.
Im loving my Crystal Light so far, love there is no battery and how light it is. The sweet spot is not as big as I thought it would be but I have managed so far. I upgraded to a 4090 card from a 4070 and it really shines now.
No you don't get the headset cheaper with subscription. In the end you're out just as much, and in the meantime you probably are only able to use it for the first year, after that it'll be dead or broken..
Initially yes, we'll see what happens later. Its mainly because 57ppd is more optimized at this point and will be ready for first shipments in January. The 50ppd does work but still needs fine-tuning and minor optimisation.
One question that I do have is: I've already got a Crystal Light VR headset (which I want to keep) and I have its software that makes it work installed on my beast-of-a-PC. If I do decide to buy the Super, will I be able to install the software that comes for it and will that software be able to co-exist with the Crystal Light software on the same PC or will I have to buy a whole new PC for it? I would like to be able to use either the Crystal Light or the Super on the same PC, when I feel like it!
135 FOV version sounds great. Price is ok. Please do something about the bulk at the back of the head. So many of your users do Sims. Having the adjusters at the back interferes with the back of seat headrests. Makes you tilt your head forward and down and is uncomfortable. I always replaced pimax straps with the vive straps. No preordering for me. I fell for that too many times. I'll wait until actual product is shipping and all the bugs are worked out. I learned from 5k+, 5ksuper, and 8kx. I skipped the crystal family
Bravo Pimax!! You guys are just disrupting the entire VR market with all these stellar products. Any possibility of an upgrade program for us Crystal Owners that want a Super?
They said a few months ago (and repeated in this video) that existing Crystal owners will receive a $400 discount on the Super, no trade-in required. I believe this is for OG Crystal only, not the Light.
Na the super (the 1600 dollar headset) doesnt come with the premium audio. It comes free if you pre order the headset though. Which isn't ideal as spending that amount of money you want to wait for reviews from multiple sources 1st @SweViver
now my stupid 1500$ battery crystal is pretty much useless. batteries dont even charge anymore inside the headset. i wonder if i can buy new ones even if they do not work anymore
Is this the Pimax 12K QLED? One that has Trade-in Program " We're pleased to introduce our trade-in program for the flagship 12K QLED headset, designed to offer our valued customers an opportunity to upgrade seamlessly. Here are the details: Eligibility The following headsets purchased through Pimax-associated retailers qualify for trade-in: Pimax Crystal, Crystal-Sim, 5K Plus, 5K XR, 5K Super, 8K, 8K Plus, 8K X, and Artisan."
Where are the wide fov lenses we were supposed to upgrade ? And also the firmware update for openxr in the pimax play ? And you’ll really should try to get motion compensation to be integrated with the pimax crystal.
@SweViver I'm sure they'll be better than the past, but until those 15 million pixels are backlit by at least a 3 million local dimming zones it's just never going to be the realism of OLED. Going from 500 local dimming zones to 1000 is great until you realize you're still dealing with 15 million pixels.
100%. This QLED mini-LED is all well and good. Excellent display system. I have no doubt we would be impressed, and I'm sure it's an amazing experience. But still, contrast really is king for visuals. The difference between the two is it makes making the VR world feel truly real (especially for any scene with dark areas). These QLED panels are probably very good for QLED, but it will not come close to micro-OLED in terms of contrast. I think this still offers an amazing alternative, with wider FoV and higher brightness in particular, which is the real benefit of this headset over the "other" 4k x 4k per eye micro-OLED headsets. But that comes at the cost of contrast still (it will, you cannot fake perfect contrast with these mini-LEDs), size and weight. Tradeoffs - but Pimax are doing an amazing job here! And the fact that they're offering a micro-OLED option, is just such a brilliant move. But you can get that size and weight down, in that case.....
57ppd is more optimized at this point and 50ppd is still being tweaked and improved, so thats mainly why the 57ppd bundle releases with the Super, to begin with. And its real horizontal FOV, i can confirm after doing lots of tests this week.
I have the HP Reverb G2, as my upgrade from the very old Oculus Rift Gen1. I have been waiting for a headset like the Pimax Crystal Super 57 PPD QLED headset to replace my HP Reverb G2. Not only does it look like the best headset to be out to date, but is also quite affordable, compared to anything else that is close to it. Some costing up to $5,000 or more. O.O Would wait for the 12K, but I have a bad feeling that will not be out till 2030 or later. If you don't use two fiber optic cords coming from two 5090 RTX GPUs to the headset. And I don't want to wait that long for the 12K. The Pimax Crystal Super 57 PPD QLED will be good enough for an upgrade, so long as it is as good as advertised. Is my hope it will be.
I also have Reverb G2 and I'm thinking of getting Crystal Super since the price is lower than other alternatives. It also has eye tracking though doesn't have HDR support as I understand
@@russ3190 Yeah, not sure about the HDR support myself. But even if not, will still be a great upgrade to the older headset, so long as it hits it's mark.

Thumbs down for the scummy Pimax prime service. You should not have to pay to receive customer service, return options and the much needed new software features what a joke.
get rid of the knob on the back and use a self ratcheting and release strap. this way you can comfortably put your head back in a seated position. pull-type strap would also work. cheers!
Pimax is unable to buy this kind of controller....Instead they will use bigger ratio of compression ( and latency) to comply with DP1.4 limitations ...Thanks Nvidia....
No edge to edge clarity totally offsets high pixel count. Whats the point of letting your gpu running hot and still having blurry corners? Makes no sense.
Can the new super use valve index controllers and I assume you canceled our super bundle preorders as I just checked my pimax login and my account shows you did just that back in May and didn't tell anyone.
Sounds good - but please please please get a team working on high-resolution passthrough video. It's an absolute killer feature from an accessibility standpoint.
Pass-through features work better with a mobile platform like Quest 2/3, but they're much more difficult to implement with a PCVR system. Crystal Light is a success because it trims down features that's not necessary for PCVR. Adding passthrough to Crystal Super is like going backward again. For people who want passthrough features, Meta and Apple's headsets are much better suitable candidates.

Bought the 8kx a couple of years ago (3) with the promise of getting a cash back on the 12kx the coming year. What is that promise worth? Not sure I trust Pimax.
Having just set up Pimax Play today, to set up fresh, i have to concur: Pimax Play is even more straightforward than Meta. It just works. Its simple, and seems extremely bloat free.

The FOV in normal crystal does not do it for me being used to the 5K+ of 140deg for 5 years now I aint going backwards now. The 8KX has 165-170 real FOV horizontally at Large and 140 at Normal FOV. The Supers 50ppd horizontal 135 FOV is basically on-par with 8KX's Normal FOV mode. Very small difference, after all.

Asking for subscription software and memerships is something I will be strongly against. I'm very interested but waiting to see what the 135 HFOV version will be like, will that eventually be sold as an option with the base unit? While 135 may seem large I'm still using the Pimax 8KX that had a HFOV of 200 so it's hard to come down from that huge FOV

Awesome, glad you came out with another VR headset. How about making this one work seamless without connection issues or having to deal with one lens not working, flashing lenses, battery not charging and not having to constantly resetting the connections and software to get it to work. Great news that you managed to improve your production quantity to fill up the warehouses, hopefully it goes hand in hand with quality control as well. Sadly there are many of us out there who purchased the PCL late summer and had a batch of units with manufacturing flaws - bad lenses, panels, broken tracking, etc. We are still waiting for replacements, experiencing ignorance and promises only from the support side. I understand that new sales are more in focus, but alowing people to get stuck with broken hardware for 10+ weeks is really breaking the trust for new purchases - and bad marketing/PR too (despite that it isn't that loud compared to VR youtubers). I wish you luck to overcome this part of your business model as well and hoping to recieve my replacement parts soon and finally have some good experience with Pimax!
Ahhh, all that sounds amazing Pimax - I was so ready to throw my money your way, but I wont be upgrading from my Pimax 5k Super until there's a next gen headset that's 200deg fov.
@Thephilpw99 very true. But the 5k Super's wide fov is 200deg. I almost never use my 5kS in normal fov mode. I didn't buy it for high refresh. I bought it for wide fov. Would certainly take the widest FOV over top res and refresh rates any day. Here's hoping the 12k version launches with a wide (greater than 170deg) version! I'd love to see something with that fov, even if it's resolution/refresh is lower.

The resolution is spread over a much wider FOV on the 12K, so the pixel density and PPD is higher on the 57ppd Super. In others words, the perceived resolution.
This doesn't mean that. The 12K will be an extreme-wide FOV headset, whereas the Crystal line is high clarity.
Will the focal distance of the lenses be the same with the Super as is with the Crystal and Crystal light?
I have tried lots of different top strap adjustable clamps and have still always found that a simple front to back top strap works best, for me anyway. Hopefully this will be an included option with the Super. I'm looking forward to my preordered Super OLED (not QLED) with pancake lens. Thanks for your update.
Totally agree. Yes it will be included.
Im loving my Crystal Light so far, love there is no battery and how light it is. The sweet spot is not as big as I thought it would be but I have managed so far. I upgraded to a 4090 card from a 4070 and it really shines now.

I'll let you know in the coming days and weeks since I'm heading home with a Super unit for evaluation and further testing!

You get the headset cheaper with subscription. Why wouldn't it work?
No you don't get the headset cheaper with subscription. In the end you're out just as much, and in the meantime you probably are only able to use it for the first year, after that it'll be dead or broken..

Does 27:35 mean I need to buy 57PPD to use 50PPD?
Can I buy only Pimax Crystal Super 50PPD without buying 57PPD when it is released?
Yes thats correct, 400usd off for all Crystal owners, not including Light. But no trade-in program.
we need dmas back in stock! waiting to order for over 2 months with the dmas option
Super will come with the DMAS as far as I remember. Not sure about the current stock though for the other models, need to bounce this with the team.
Na the super (the 1600 dollar headset) doesnt come with the premium audio. It comes free if you pre order the headset though. Which isn't ideal as spending that amount of money you want to wait for reviews from multiple sources 1st @SweViver
So, when can I trade in my 8KX?
Further details regarding the trade-in program will be communicated shortly.
Toys R US.
Pimax said we can have a 399 discount in pimax play and the rest with the 12k. Don't need to return the headset with the crystal super.
This is so cool! I'll be waiting for the larger fov QLED version in 2025 :)

When will the Lighthouse faceplate be available ?
Contrast is king in visuals. Infinite contrast of OLED is where image turns from great to real.
You will be surprised with the new QLEDs 😉
But you can get that size and weight down, in that case.....
i dont know how could be this good for sim racing with low FOV!???
Just wait for the 50ppd with 135 degree FOV...should be good enough imo.
thanks for the video. No passthru or hand tracking option for the Super?

Some people want 135 viewing angle and 50ppd at once without buying a module 120 and 57. Give us this opportunity. Thanks.
57ppd is more optimized at this point and 50ppd is still being tweaked and improved, so thats mainly why the 57ppd bundle releases with the Super, to begin with. And its real horizontal FOV, i can confirm after doing lots of tests this week.
Happy with the progress!!! Cant wait to get my hands on one!
Would wait for the 12K, but I have a bad feeling that will not be out till 2030 or later.

Can the new super use valve index controllers and I assume you canceled our super bundle preorders as I just checked my pimax login and my account shows you did just that back in May and didn't tell anyone.
You'll need the Lighthouse faceplate (which will be available later). The earlier offer was a reservation, not a pre-order.
is there a single game on steamVR that enables dynamic foveated rendering?
Sounds good - but please please please get a team working on high-resolution passthrough video. It's an absolute killer feature from an accessibility standpoint.
Pass-through features work better with a mobile platform like Quest 2/3, but they're much more difficult to implement with a PCVR system.
Crystal Light is a success because it trims down features that's not necessary for PCVR. Adding passthrough to Crystal Super is like going backward again.
For people who want passthrough features, Meta and Apple's headsets are much better suitable candidates.
