    Love ya Xeno but Spudz is correct. After almost 10 years I've just come forward and reported my own experience to the police. But I have very little, almost 0 evidence. I delayed reporting out of pure fear, thinking I'd never be believed, and also from the sheer impact of the trauma and having to relive it all over again.
    I agree we need evidence I'm not arguing on your points for a minute because I actually agree with you. But I just want to say that there are more victims out there with 0 evidence than you'd think. Especially when it comes to grape or SA. Grape and SA crimes are not always violent either. These are things that happen in a most intimate setting where there are no witnesses. It's incredibly hard. For me as a victim having everyone say "we don't believe you" is incredibly hard, and a reason I delayed reporting to the police. In fact whilst I was in a relationship with my abuser, when I tried to reach out and tell people what I was going through, people sided with him and acted like I was a crazy woman. It was heartbreaking and traumatising that some people can just dismiss it without even taking the time to see.
    If you know the person intimately, if it's your friend or family member or they've been in your life for a while, maybe they don't have evidence but you can have a deep conversation about it, see what their body language is, can they give you details, how do they act and react? You can sense a liar a mile off in a conversation like that because nothing adds up.
    People who invent abuse make me absolutely sick, and they absolutely do. Often the perpetrators of abuse do this
    To discredit the actual victim. It's disgusting so I understand the entire argument of needing evidence. An outsider, a stranger could never know who's honest and who's not :(

      I hope things can get better for you. As someone who also suffered an assault that had to go unreported due to lack of evidence, I still have to agree with Xeno's take simply because of the state of the internet at large. *"having everyone say "we don't believe you" is incredibly hard"* Yeah people dont understand that not being believed as a victim is traumatizing to the point where reporting it can actually make the healing process worse, its almost impossible to get hard evidence of SA which a lot of people dont seem to understand. I get the need for evidence but in most cases its not worth reporting it because of people like Xeno.

    As a former raid lead in WoW, and an assault survivor... a LOT of people try to lie about people they don't like. One great example is when I was in a private call with a shot caller in my group. I was messaged and told he had been harassing a girl in the group. I asked them to take a screenshot of the convo, and it all looked pretty legit. I asked the guy to show me their dms on a discord stream... nothing. Not even her messages that were in the fake messages. Later I found out the girl was rejected by him and wanted to take his spot from him. She had made an alt to have a conversation with herself. You truly can't trust people at their word anymore. This isn't to say you shouldn't support the person making the claims... Just that you shouldn't ruin someone's life with no evidence. Hope this dies down soon tbh

    The “believe all women” thing was such a haphazard phrase and poisoned so many people without critical thinking skills. The reason that phrase exists isn’t because women are always right and telling the truth, it’s because they’re victimized more often than men.
    The phrase people should have used is “take all potential victims seriously.” But that doesn’t fit in a hashtag nicely.

    • @RiskOfBaer
      @RiskOfBaer 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +25

      It's not because it didn't fit the hashtag or didn't sound as catchy. It's because the goal WAS to have people believe all women without question, so they could do exactly what they did to Johnny Depp or Pro Jared. That was the literal goal, they just wanted the power to do that. And, of course, now it has backfired and the pendulum has swung the other way. Now people don't just question a woman who makes accusations without proof, they are actively less prone to take any accusations seriously because of all the fake accusation scandals. And you know what, good! That's what you get for actively misusing the power you've been given.

    I've always been under the mindset of that I'll believe victims but I'd still like proof. I want to give people the benefit of the doubt and trust them but the truth of the matter is that people lie, not everyone can be trusted and evidence is needed. I'm a woman myself and I raid, I believe that a lot of my fellow women have suffered a lot of abuse and ignoring over things they can't control but there are vindictive people, there are people who just hate others and want them to suffer retribution for things in the past.
    What we should do is trust victims but not 100% unless they can provide evidence, some insane people do have platforms they use to manipulate the truth, especially during situations like these where public opinion can easily be swayed.

    • @PieniPingviini
      @PieniPingviini 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      imho in these types of situations stuff like arthars' comments about how "it takes two hands to clap" is not very productive because once again it puts the blame of being manipulated and led on by another person on the victim, not the perpetrator. I also don't know why two big content creators are hijacking the whole conversation, reducing it to "drama" and with that direct even more weirdos to also harass the people who are coming forward WITH evidence of mistreatment. Like this is not benefiting anyone except the people making bank on clickbait "drama" videos.

    I'm a woman and was attacked over this whole shitstorm because I outwardly stated that what is happening isn't about misogyny or sexism, it's about /people/ being terrible to one another and as a society we need to work together, men and women, to make it a better place for everyone. The attacker obviously focused on the fact that I said it wasn't about misogyny or sexism. Completely disregarding the fact that I stated we treat /people/ terribly, equally, and equally, we need to change our attitudes and behaviors for a better world. But ya'know, fuck me for not joining the blanket hating on men bandwagon as a woman. Someone else literally said I was a "bad person". For wanting equality. Like, what? *insert jackie-chan wtf meme*

    • @anthony26812
      @anthony26812 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

      you didnt deserve to be attacked over it but it's a bit disingenuous to say it isnt about misogyny or sexism when all the potential victims coming out are women, with most talking about how remarks were made towards them specifically about being a woman. I agree that we should work together to make it a better place for everyone for the bigger picture, but people should be allowed to defend against being discriminated without being lumped into that whole category of "lets treat everyone equally" without addressing them first since it's a bit dismissive, which is likely the reason you were called a bad person.

      This is a no win situation with people like this on social media, they are more concerned with pushing a specific narrative over caring about the well being of others. They are a hivemind and if you don't agree with them they will just attack your character by calling you a pick me or some other demeaning insult to try to take away from what you are trying to say. It's just better off to block and/or avoid these kinds of people alltogether.

    • @Prism_Heavy
      @Prism_Heavy 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +12

      "Believe all women" unless you go against their hivemind. Then you're just as bad as men to them. I'm a woman as well and I cannot vocally express how I feel about any of these topics because I get called every name under the sun as well. I agree, it's always about /people/ being shitty to other people. I know guys who have left the raiding scene because they were being "too nice" to others or "being a push over." Like yes, women get shit on for reasons, but so do men. It's literally just people being shitty to each other.
      And also as a woman, I've never felt alienated or preyed upon in group settings in games. I just choose not to join them because drama ensues no matter either gender you are.

    • @DarkDyllon
      @DarkDyllon 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      @@anthony26812 the issue is, that men historically have been mocked for coming out as being "harassed" or "SA'd"
      Look at the Johnny vs Amber trial, before it was known what Amber actually did, everyone was mocking Johnny Depp for not being a man, so most men who are abused just bottle it up quietly and let it go.
      "when all the potential victims coming out are women" that's just the issue, society has basically made it so that women SHOULD be believed straight away, no proof or anything, meanwhile men who openly come out with this shit gets mocked instantly for not "being a man"
      But also, if it's just "remarks" against women, it's against both sides, men say stupid shit and women say stupid shit, just that women are more easily outspoken about it, doubly so if they have a following compared to men, who might tell a good friend here and there.

    • @temisu_namisu
      @temisu_namisu 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      I stopped caring about the labels, they serve no purpose any more and seem meaningless. If a situation is shitty and/or illegal, then it is shitty and/or illegal. It doesn't matter what the accuser or the accused self identifies as or whether the situation is considered misogynistic or sexist or racist or whatever.
      Regardless of all of that, the standard of the burden of proof must be the same and it does fall on the accuser to meet that (as much as that might suck and can be difficult). The best thing someone can do in this case is to protect themselves as soon as possible; get a restraining order, sever any ties to them, find somewhere else to stay.
      Of course, all of that is considered dismissive or not taking things seriously, because it isn't unquestionably taking the side of the accuser. It's pretty fucked up that we are still at that point after all these years of "just believe us". Unfortunately, the few abusers of that trust, who were lying or inflating shit, have ruined that for all so it's back to requiring proof.

    i have no problems with mr happy's statement. my issue comes in the form of people making this out to be "drama" when the original discussion that was happening on twitter was women within the ff14/raiding WF community discussing how unsafe it is for women WITHIN these communities, with sfia being only one part of the problem. the reason arthas was attacked was because he harrassed a woman live on stream after they apologized for being bad within the group. arthas then proceeded to victim blame on twitter about the whole thing and attempt to justify why he "Had" to harrass her on stream. he took no accountability for his own actions and how his actions affected a woman within the community, thus being part of the problem regarding women feeling unsafe.
    sfia is only one part of the problem when it comes to the wider conversation around the rampant misogyny going on in the community. and, often times, other men go out of their way to defend the men within their circle or be completely silent and not speak up - this further contributing to the unsafe atmosphere when it comes to women within the RWF space in ff14. i will not speak on your (xeno's) involvement because i do not know enough to comment, but i will comment on the butchering of what is happening and the reduction of it into a mere drama when the discussion was about something far, FAR more systemic within the gaming space.
    misogyny is rampant and more men need to speak up and speak out. because, unfortunately, more people listen to men than they do women. which is, also, unfortunately, a form of misogyny. people are so terrified of "Losing" their place within a circle that they do not realize these people/circles are very much not ones they benefit from existing within in the first place.
    everything that happened with sfia happened a day or so into the entire conversation/discussion that was being had by women within the online space when it comes to raiding.
    that being said: when it comes to accusations of assault and the like, i want people to ask a simple question to them. why do you care more about defending men and their "livelihoods" over defending women who have either had their livelihoods destroyed, or will have their livelihoods destroyed as a result of coming forward about the abuse they have to endure? unfortunately, in this case, the "proof" or "evidence" regarding what has happened to them IS their testimony. it is much easier for men or falsely accused people to defend themselves. and, yes, whilst false accusations DO happen, they're so few and far between compared to the ones that are truthful that i feel as though people use faking claims of abuse as an excuse to harrass or victim blame these women and invalidate their experiences.
    i do not believe in "believe all accusations" however i do believe in giving credence and support to them. most false claims DO in fact do so in order to gain something, but they usually already have the power and privilege to obtain that power or maintain it to begin with. most actual victims know that these few cases of falsehood will cast doubt on their claims and they are more likely to be harrassed and belittled for coming forward about what happened than anything else. in fact, a lot of people who come forward about these things open themselves up to being harrassed yet again - which is the main reason why so many keep quiet. and, as unfortunate as it is, even "proof" that is obtained does not always sway the people who defend these figures even though the evidence is right there. (for example, although not xiv related, if people know who "dafran" is from the overwatch esports community... yeah.) it often takes other men to corroborate these stories for women to be believed.

    Xeno, you're right that all these people that are out for blood and taking issues with hunt train drama or Nova etc are ridiculous. You're completely right on that and these people should seriously stop acting like this on twitter.
    But when you say you need actual evidence for things, you might think you're working with a solid principle but in reality that is really out of touch. A lot of these issues with women cannot have evidence besides their words and their experience - I mean how would that even happen? It's not like women record themselves 24/7 and it is very widely known that going to the police is very ineffective most of the time. Also, doesn't what you're saying also apply to sfia situation? You did not witness sfia typing these DMs to these girls or manipulate them irl, and discord DMs can easily be faked. Multiple people can come together and corroborate to share the same fake story as well. So in sfia's situation, all you have are just words and rumours + discord DMs which can be faked easily too.
    What I am trying to say is that the level of evidence can vary, and things are never as simple as evidence-or-nothing approach. It's not even agreed on what is "good enough evidence". Very often words is all they have, and you are being very unrealistic if you think words alone should be dismissed. As evidenced by so many women coming forward with their stories, things are heavily stacked against women by default. This is why you should always start out by considering what they say, instead of dismissing it because it's not "good enough evidence", whatever that means.
    Think about the greater picture and consider the pros and cons - a lot of victims are already discouraged from coming out due to power dynamic, not wanting to relive the trauma, fear of retaliation, etc. If you make it even harder for women to come out by insisting that they must always have "good enough evidence", you are not improving things on average. Just because some people lie and make false accusations doesn't mean you should throw out the baby with the bathwater. A better stance would be to consider everyone's words to begin with, but punish the false claims harder.

      While Xeno did not emphasise it in his tweet, he specifically said in the video ''i'm not saying i believe it, but i'm also not saying i DON'T believe it, i'm neutral''. I didn't get the impression he's dismissing them because it's ''just words'', in fact it looks like he considered them quite fairly and has brought up clear issues he has with the allegations. If you want any kind of condemnation or any kind of action or... Just whatever you're even trying to achieve by making this public, then you need substance behind what you're saying
      I don't think Xeno is being out of touch there

    • @Lilybellmusic

      @@Koodaris What I'm trying to say is that when women come out with these stories, we should assume that they do have substance behind what they're saying. That isn't asking for condemnation of other party, it's asking to take what they have to say seriously instead of saying "I'm sorry but I'm not going to believe this because you could've faked it." There is a world of difference between showing real concern, and dismissively saying we need evidence.
      Just think of a real life example. If a child comes to you crying because he said he got bullied by other kids, which one shows more care and concern? "Sorry I'm not going to believe you because you could be faking it", or "are you okay, and can you tell me what happened"?

      @@Lilybellmusic I think he did exactly that, is what i am telling you. He took a look at it and thuroughly explained his issues with the allegations, and remains open to change should more information come to light in the future
      It doesn't change that this is a really poor public allegation, and you have to keep in mind that in the cases where a real victim was involved where a real crime was committed, this stuff CONSUMES YOUR LIFE. There are so many thoughts and so much swirling in your mind, so much to let out and so much you've thought over weeks, months, years
      Add to this that any public allegation like this will incite people. You're not responsible for what they do or say, but they were influenced none the less by your allegations. When you provide no substantial evidence, then this is equally important to me because one of you will have your reputation completely destroyed once this is over with. This is dead serious, it has very destructive consequences, potentially even legal ramifications. The victim is as much of a stranger to me as the accused
      I genuinely think Xeno has been fair here. The reaction and how he talks about it might appear otherwise, but that is related to his character, and not his assessment
      I implore you to actually look at the tweets, how they talk about Ryan mistaking going out as a date, how he raided with her ex, how she can't take Xeno seriously because of Ryan even though Xeno has on the record helped real abuse victims
      A lot of the allegations hangs on the ex being this vile criminal abuser and accusing Ryan (and Xeno) for guilt by association, and that Ryan may have been a little uncomfortable/creepy or lied to her once. That's the extent of the allegations. There isn't even anything incriminating towards Ryan as it stands, and this wasn't meant to be about her ex
      Edit: The tweets responding to her are also not dismissing her in the way you make it sound, they're actually questioning her and showing that they listened, and are wondering what exactly Ryan did. It seems that what you're asking for is at least taken to heart by some of the people

      @@Koodaris When I talked about being dismissive, I wasn't talking about the tweets responding to her. I was talking about what Xeno is doing 9:26 onwards and his conclusion at 11:17. You say the way he talks about it and his reaction might appear otherwise but that's related to his character not assessment. But the way you present yourself is as important as what you say, and his assessment over what was given was "get the fuck out of here" at 11:17. I like Xeno when he's being silly, funny and overly dramatic, but when this is regarding hundreds of women who have come out sharing their stories, I think the way he has conducted himself is very poor and not considering the gravity of some of these pains. Instead of reaching out to the person making the tweet to ask for further clarification, he's decided that he doesn't think it's relevant and made fun of her to thousands of viewers live. Do you really think that is being fair and sensible?
      Xeno is also only talking about 1 person in that part of the video, but the community discussion is about treatment of women in general. You say the victim is as much of a stranger to me as the accused, but let's think about the statistics. There are overwhelmingly more women being sent creepy DMs and having uncomfortable interactions with men than the other way around. That does not mean we should automatically assume men are guilty, but it does mean that in vast majority of cases, our starting point should be to assume that women have something substantial and real to say.
      You're correct that allegations like this has potential to incite people, but that's why we need to listen with compassion and ask for more information. Xeno has not done either of those. He's not listening because he's already made up his mind that she could be lying, and he has made no effort to ask for more information. Refer back to my example with the bullied kid to see why this is such a bad way to deal with these things. What this does is create a very hostile environment where women don't feel like they can talk, because even if they speak up they will be told to "fuck off with that bullshit" by people who are not listening, and make no effort to learn more.
      And once again, this is just 1 person's allegation. The reality is that almost every single women have a story about someone making them uncomfortable. We really should not focus on this example or some publicized cases like Amber Heard to make a precedent of "evidence or nothing" like what Xeno is doing. That does not create a good environment for women, and as much as Xeno likes to deny it, he's an influencer and he will influence how people perceive things.

      @@Lilybellmusic I'm not really here to talk about the general issue of what women facing abuse and coming out about it is like, so i think this is where our friction is. If that is the case then it seems you should take the discussion to where it's discussed. Xeno only focused on this particular instance, which is what i was focusing on. I think his reaction, to this particular instance, is fair game for sure. I assume the reason he only covered this one person is because they're targeting Ryan, which is affiliated with Xeno
      I think you're misplacing your (valid, mind you) concerns
      So the thing you seem to take issue with is Xeno's reaction primarily and what this could mean for other women coming out. I think were the situation different, his reaction would be as well. You can go and watch how much he extensively covered Lionel and what he's done to people and how much space and a platform Xeno gave one of the victims to speak out. In fact he's arguably one of the very few influencers that took it as serious and as far as he did, which speaks more volumes about his thoughts on *this* particular incident
      You say Xeno should be careful about how he approached alleged victims, but at what point are *you* being unreasonably faithful to someone who is potentially concocting a narrative that could destroy someone elses life, while simultaneously damaging the very cause you're championing?
      Also, Twitter and social media is not, nor should be, a good environment for women to come out and expose private matters to the public. Nor should they feel compelled to. That's a pretty bizarre phenomena which is primarily a US-cultural issue
