You articulated this extremely well. I have been considering volunteering time, I think I can have a positive impact and it would give me a purpose besides work and the gym. I have been through some hardships in life and I am a substance abuse counselor full time, I’m sure I could help out a youngster coming up in this world. I really wish I had this when I was a kid.
You most definitely CAN have a positive impact! Please get involved! We need more people like you willing to take someone under their wing. If you pour your heart into it, the impact you can have is monumental and has no bounds. You will most certainly gain a sense of purpose, although bear in mind it takes a lot of time to get there sometimes. I was recently told by one of my Littles that they "feel safe" being around me and it meant the absolute world to me. Those types of moments make the years and years of time together worth it and I couldn't recommend it more to get involved. Please keep me updated on your BBBS journey 😊😊
would you suggest something like this for a college freshman? i’m just not sure if balancing school, work, and being a big would be too much but i’m very interested
Greetings! It takes a little bit of time management like most things, but it's totally worth it and I would totally do it! I was a sophomore in college when I first started. I did hang out with my little pretty much every weekend in the start, but I think officially the program just wanted you to meet up like once or twice a month so it's not the biggest time commitment. In the end, the quality of time you spend together is just as important (if not more important) than the quantity of time you spend together. I think early college, especially when you're first getting a foothold into adulthood, is an excellent time to get involved and I genuinely believe it helped me grow so much as a person as well during those critical few years. I'm not sure I would be the person I am today if I hadn't become a Big at 18. Let me know if there's any other questions I can help address and if you do take a leap of faith to get involved, please give me some updates! 😊
After the in-person interview with the match specialist I waited around a month or two while they conducted some background checks, checked my references, etc. and worked to find a kid who would be a suitable match. Some of that stuff might've happened before the in-person interview though TBH, it was so long ago I don't remember for certain. I do remember there being around a 1-2 month gap between the interview and meeting my Little for the first time.
@@scarlettemae6576 TBH it was almost a decade ago for me so I don't remember any super specifics but they kinda just want to get to know you and gauge whether or not you're a responsible adult who can be trusted to volunteer for them. They also asked me a fair bit of questions about my own hobbies and interests to try their best and pick a Little who has some common interests. Also, they asked some questions about what age of kids I'd feel most comfortable working with and other preferences in that regard. It was super laid back though so just relax and be yourself! Thank you for taking the initiative to give back to your community in such a meaningful way 😊
Hi I really want to do this program but I don't know if I can because I a transgender and i'm also 16 I remember being a little and now I want to be more apart of the journey
Greetings! I honestly have no idea how being transgender would affect the process, but my understanding is that you do have to be at least 18 to get involved as a Big. Whatever you do, keep looking for those opportunities to be a mentor in people's lives if that's something you're passionate about! It is much needed out there in the world ☺️🙏
Greetings! I think that's just something you work out with your Little's parents/guardians. Normally I've always just picked mine up from his home and dropped him off, but I know some others who would have their parents pickup/dropoff.
Nice video. Very inspiring. I am definitely going to pursue this
@@MarkS.-ry7bm Thank you! Let me know how your journey goes! I hope it's just as meaningful and impactful as mine has been! 😊
@@RadioactiveMoose will do. Me too. Thanks

What one you pick the program from Big brother and big sister?
I'm sorry I don't think I understand your question. I went through Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Moosa you rock!!
Awesome!!!

@@scarlettemae6576 Greetings! How did your interview end up going and any progress in getting started on your Big Brothers Big Sisters journey? 😊
Moosa,
Why is the Little blocked out in the picture of you two together?
I take people's privacy and safety very seriously, especially these kids, and didn't feel it necessary to put them out there to get my message across.

are you responsible for picking up your little and picking the activities you do?
