This video marks the final installment in a trilogy covering the developments in Red Ball speedrunning that took place after rare.eg achieved a time of 3:07 in the 12 levels category. The first video in this trilogy, "How the Flawless Red Ball Speedrun Record got Destroyed," left off JonasGaming's insane accomplishment of completing Red Ball in 3:01 flat, putting him extremely close to the sub 3 minute milestone he was trying desperately to achieve. This run made use of a strategy called "Death Warp" in level 4, which saved him around 2 seconds, a technique which was fully explored in the second video in this trilogy, "Red Ball's Biggest Mystery was Finally Solved After 12 Years". This video follows the quest between Caramel, rare.eg, JonasGaming, Xdxboxjaja, and one other competitor to become the first to complete red ball in under three minutes. Indeed, one of these five players managed to become the first to pull it off. I'm by no means a speedrunning historian, but I can't recall any instance of someone saying "this game is solved" or "this time will never be beaten" and not being proven wrong eventually. I can't wait for Maximum to drop another video months or years from now with a new major development.

The only time that's ever been correct is when a TAS proved the limit, and even then there's always the possibility of a new strat emerging that shaves a little time off
The only game that I recall being solved is Dragster
I'm not going to say you're wrong with saying a specific time will almost always be beaten, but some milestones (like a sub 4:54 on Super Mario Bros.) will never be broken.

Your content got me so invested in the speed running community, and even though I never have (and probably never will) play these games it is still so amazing to see the challenges and how they are overcome.
Same! I'm honestly in awe of speedrunners.
I can say at least, speedrunning is one of the lowest investment hobbies you can possibly try. Boot up any game along with a timer (and probably a way to record it...) and you're ready to go!
You can go down the rabbit hole and chase fractions of seconds, or do a single run and feel satisfied stopping there, or try running a whole bunch of different games. To the point where there's an entire community around "blind speedruns", trying to speedrun games they've never played before
COMPLETELY valid to just want to watch of course, just saying there's no need to feel intimidated by the craziness top level runners get up to. Everyone with 1000+ attempts started out with just one
@@metallsnubben Yeah, I agree. I'm not part of any speedrunning community, I'm nowhere skilled enough to do any good strategies, and my nerves get to me so I'll probably never be able to do any huge achievements, but I have tried to go fast in games just for fun.
@@mxstila6220 that’s TOTALLY valid, but i’d like to note that i was Sw.ord in this video and red ball is literally the only game i have EVER speedrun. experience means nothing, only drive. do what you enjoy and don’t set arbitrary limitations for yourself

This game seem similar to Super Mario Bros 1. Both games look like they have no way of breaking another barrier but, unlike SMB1 this game actually has a lot more potential. This game was my childhood and to see one of my favorite pastime games being absolutely broken is amazing. Thank you for this video and many other videos on your channel.

Yeah. This game seems to be right now like SMB in like 2006 or 2007- kinda optimized, but still a lot of potential. This means that there will be a time, perhaps around 2030, where Red Ball 1 is as optimized as SMB is today, with the world record being frames away from the TAS. By then, SMB itself will have likely reached perfection.

Thanks! Caramel has managed to barely get a sub 3 time without sub 20 train, so he currently has the potential to get a time as low as a 2:51.

Some years ago I would go daily to the school's library on a 5 minute break, trying to complete the game before break was no more (I was allowed btw, they had PC's in wich you could do whatever (except installing viruses ofc lmao)), I don't think I've ever achieved it yet, I could only try for 2 to 3 weeks because it became very obvious that the dudes that worked on the library didn't like me at all, so I ended up stop trying kekw. When I was bored I would give it a shot with no sucess, and just forget about it. This will surely give me motivation to try, I don't get much time to try daily sadly, but my general skills have improved since then, so hopefully I can finish what was started.
