@@pkboss8324 definitely agree their UI is still not great. Also even though it has a SD765 vs the Pixel 4a SD730 the Pixel is better optimized and super smooth. And that Velvet will probably get Android 11 and that's it. 600 is still too much, you could buy the iPhone 11 for a hundred bucks more or get the XR for the same price.
@@allenmobley4345 yeah bro for a brand like LG 600$ for a midrange is nuts!! This phone does not deserve more then 450$ even if LG does not make no profit or very less they should fix there brand image first I've had LGs in past they never receive updates only option is to update manuallly which is deal breaker honestly
I have one without the case and i love it. Before that I had the stylo 4 and 3 and i loved both those phones as well. It has been a long time since i had a Samsung now and although they are good phones i don't really miss them.
LG is underrated. That quad DAC is the most OVERrated feature ever. It only works if you plug in high end wired headphones. Does it work in the car when I plug in for Android Auto? NO! Does it work in my car if I use bluetooth? NO! Does the Quad DAC work with bluetooth headphones or speakers? NO. Do most people even know what DAC stands for? NO!
That exterior second screen implemention with this case makes it unique, and I like it, reminds me of being able to see the time with the V10 and V20 without needing an always on main screen. However the notch... Ugh. That silver is sexy though, won't lie.
The velvet is def a step forward with their implementation of the dual screen. Its a good compromise from the lgv60. I have lgv60 and dont plan on getting any other phone for quite some time so I'm hoping LG will produce more dual screen cases
Your review is probably the most relevant of any Velvet review I've read and I might have read them all. The absolute key criteria of your review that also prevented me from purchasing this device is the lack of the Quad DAC. So few people understand the relevance of LG omitting a feature that so many LOYAL LG fans have relied on. Kudos to you as you made this a prominent feature of your initial review.
I agree with LG's strengths. the Quad dac is definitely a plus and they usually are the bargain flagship. The argument against them is that its lacking in android updates compared to other brands. If you want to root your phone and flash custom OS's on there isnt an issue but those who don't want to do that and care about newest OS should probably look to samsung. That being said the bargain deals on LG will probably win me every time or an older samsung like the note 9 or even one plus.
I got the s20 plus and I think this will be last flagship phone for awhile. Phones are getting to expensive and you're not getting enough for the cost.
Hi Jason. I'd like to hear your personal recommendation for one small matter... I own a V30+ for almost 3 years now, and it's got buggy... Sticks, crashes etc. I have 3 options for new phones: LG V50 for around 430$ LG VELVET for around 520$ Galaxy S20+ for around 830$ I live in Israel and we don't yet have the 5g, so the last 2 options comes from a local importers with 1-2 years warranty, and no 5g option. We're the 1st one, is an e-bay purchase of a new phone from US. What would you do?...
Both the LG V60 and the LG velvet and LG wing have LG pay. Be honest I bought the V60 and I love it I think a lot of people would love to LG velvet too. To be honest LG is really made some decent devices in all three The Velvet, wing .and v60 all have an option for a dual screen either with an add-on case or built-in is great
I'm planning on getting a new phone for the first time in about 4 1/2 years and it's basically come down to LG Velvet, V60, and Samsung Z Fold 2. Prices have dropped significantly recently for all 3, so $ isn't that big concern. I'm going to be using these mostly for steam remote play, so longer battery life, second screen controller, & ease of multitasking is what I'm really looking at. What are your guy's suggestions?
Sure going to miss the G series LG phones. I still use my underrated G7 ThinQ which I got for $450 brand new a month after release. With how flagship phones are costing so much I doubt I'll ever get a new one. Never cared much for the V series since its so much bigger than my G7. My phone is starting to slow and the battery needs recharging 2-3 times a day. Been looking at the Velvet, but im on Verizon and the 2nd screen isn't even available. I'll really miss the DAC since I spend so,much time with my head phones on. I've looked at the Samsung Galaxy A51 5G UW and A71 5G UW but just don't want to go back to the Samsung UI and without a Dust/waterproof rating it's just not even worth it. If it had a DAC and dual screen i'd be all over the Velvet at the price it is now on Verizon @ $20/month!
Is it safe to call the Velvet the V65? What do you think the likelihood this was the original name for this phone and the only reason that it got an actual name is because a marketing guy whined really REALLY loudly.
high refresh and pixel count has diminishing returns on such a small screen. it also drains battery. The only times I would notice it is when scrolling really fast and in games that aren't locked at 60. I heard many ppl lower Res and refresh rate just to conserve battery...so why bother? if u want high refresh just buy a fancy TV or get into PC gaming
Steam remote play on phones is a thing. Its pretty dope. Sometimes I really don't want to sit at my computer desk to game. The fact I can play AAA style games like lets say Half Life 2 or Destiny 2 anywhere without having to drag my gaming rig/console around is super cool. So its really down to what kind of experience you want
No QuaDAC, no FM radio, is definitely not a direction I want LG to go in. And bring back the IR blaster. (Yes, new LG TVs don't use IR, but a lot of other gear does, and I use it.) I'm still stuck on the V20. It's slowness (notably Google maps) is frustrating, and I so much want the dual screen. I've given up on the replaceable battery (but the V60 power finally does just fine), but I can't bring myself to spend a grand for downgrade. Yes, a downgrade. No IR, and no FM radio. Online FM radio does not work in peak-hour commute, plus it takes >20 seconds to change channels rather than a second for a real FM radio. Deal-breaker.
Lg doesn't realize that they're in a very good position to beat Samsung if they make better software and update their phones up to 3-4 years and make their screen pop out more and put in really good dual speakers and hire a better marketing team.
I was waiting for your review and you delivered again. Love the video and your channel. I hope they don't change their LG OS too much cause that's why I didn't buy a Google Pixel. Pure Android is boring as hell.
I'd love to get my hands on that. I love the new dualscreen case compared to that shiny glass front they had. The silver is much nicer too in my opinion.
LG did take a interesting approach with the Velvet at its price point is kinda where you'd look at the upper midrange like the poco f2 pro and a suite or Xiaomi/Redmi phones packing the 855/865 LG made a phone more for the everyman than the everyman looking for some style rather than a tech enthusiast budget king.
I rather like better battery and storage. Rather then a high screen. I have 2 phones one 720p other high end screen I swap between them and don't even notice it. But I do notice I don't have to charge the cheaper device much at all cuz the battery life is great and it does what I need it for ie reading ND games.
I like LG phones (per say"), good budgets, decent sound etc, except they are always trying a new gimmicks and seems like they dont have a solid identity on who they are as a manufacturer. Now dont get me wrong some of their gadgets come out fairly cool, but when you find one...keep it in the following models. Many times they are taken out and something new is installed in its place. My biggest LG beef is their UI. Its very dated and really needs need more modernized visually. P.S., good review
Where the hell can I buy this without going through a carrier that won't let me buy the phone without purchasing a damn service? I already have service, I just want the phone.
So if LG goes for that midrange bargain market I think it would be a good move. Fewer ppl buy their high end phones than samsung for instance and LG is making less money off of these (a little bit more expensive to produce) phones. If they target midrange they can do what Oneplus has done although they might damage their reputation for being a video editor and audiophile's ideal phone. How about this... they keep the flagships but produce fewer of them and then focus on the midrange which theyll sell much more of. This way they cater to both audiences..btw LG already has a bad reputation of being Samsung's underling (among pop culture) so I think this is a good move. But I still want me quad dac(itr almost drives my HD 6XX's... I guess i should try a couple other cans, already have M50X too which it drives well.
A beautiful designed phone. But for me I'd rather have a G9 with the 865processer? I have no use for a duel display, but the game pad is very cool. Nah, too much like a very good V60? Too much, same, same!

You might be right. If they fire their marketing dept, if they even have one... They might do good. However, I just left Samsung after a decade with them and I used to be a iphone user. I'm incredibly pleased with my dual screen.
