WOW! Why do people feel so compelled to leave such rude remarks? If you don’t like something just leave! Contrary to what you have been told everyone is NOT interested in your negative comments. Just leave quietly. Here is a lovely sweet woman helping others in a kindly manner. We appreciate her time and effort. THANK YOU, DEAR! 🌹
I didn't have time to wash my hair this morning and I was in a rush. I thought I had your instructions committed to memory but I could quote it the bun to look the way I wanted to. Thank go for the ability to review your videos again and again! Total hair saver!!
I’m a stylist in Pennsylvania working in a summit salon under lots of professional training with Redken!! and absolutely loved this video!! Description was on point!!! So useful!!
I've been doing this messy bun since you made the video 8 years ago and it is my staple. I use a few different products and have tweaked it for my hair over the years with various styles I've had but it is the most versatile and forgiving thing that has been my saving grace on days I feel like I can't pull myself together as a mama struggling with depression and ptsd! I hope to make a collab video referencing this video soon when my bathroom looks cute but someone just asked me last night how I always have such cute messy buns and I was like - You know what? This video needs to be shared again. Resurfacing for genuine appreciation. Round of applause for you and your amazing hair tips! ❤❤❤
I have thick, straight blonde hair that just won't let me style it what so ever. But this, THIS is the first messy bun tutorial that ever worked!!!!! I think the reason why it worked for me is that you told us to tilt the head backwards. Most of the tutorials i watched put the hair up with out tilting the head back. I already got compliments for this haird do! Thanks for being a great teacher
Well... I've just realised I'm a super lazy girl then! I was looking for a lazy girl hair style and this is too much effort for me today haha! Damn it.
Love 💘 these hair 💇 tutorials. I've worn short hair most of my adult life because it was easy to get ready for work as an RN, plus I'm a wife & mom. Strange, but I've always been complimented for my hair & choice of styles. I'm thankful for great stylist who took the time to make sure I loved the hair cut. Now I'm retired & wearing my hair one length & longer. I appreciate your willingness to show how to wear a longer length. Longer hair means fewer hair cuts, great for my frugality. 😎
This is THE best messy bun tutorial I've found - and I've watched many! It's detailed, slow, doable. While my hair is a bit longer than yours, the basics get me where I need to go and outline details I hadn't noticed - thanks so much! PS apparently I need to update my profile pic. 🙃
Yes!! Thank you so much! I have similar hair to yours and I’ve always envied women who can do these effortless looking buns (usually out and about when they’ve got no mirror or products and it ends up looking like runway hair :-P) but following your video for the first time I’ve got a bun I feel happy leaving the house with 😆 Thanks, you rock!!
Thanks for the tutorial. I have the worst trouble styling my hair....I think I never really learned the proper techniques and products, but your videos are really helping me step up my hair game. As a side note I find your voice super soothing. lol
OKAY! I've been looking for a messy bun video that will work for me. After 1.5hrs Your video came up and was the easiest to listen to and understand clearly. I'm done. Thanks a bun ch! 💜
The problem with this method is that if you don't cut out the elastic taking it down tends to trash the ends. My hair is waist length so I treasure and protect my ends, maybe more than people who wear their hair short like you do. I find that a looped ponytail is kinder. Stretch the loop and pin it "randomly". Either wrap the ends mostly around the base before pinning or just twist and pin wherever if there is good bend in the hair.
@ladyflimflam I too have super long, non-layered, hair- down to my hips - and it's baby fine. I agree with you. I have to twist &/or keep wrapping it around in a circle (around the bun) & then bobby pin. My fav is when I tie my hair in a loose knot, pin it, pull it here & there, pin some more, & then sometimes I pin the ends in- sometimes I don't. I NEVER use elastics- only no-break coated bands. And I NEVER tease my hair!! Elastics & teasing is asking for breakage!! But guess it all comes down to knowing your hair... Have a good one everyone!!
First I want to say I love your messy bun!! Secondly for those of you who don’t want to hear all the talking about other things use your finger and fast forward until you see where she starts and watch from there and stop being so nasty. I watch a lot of videos about hair and makeup and most of the women talk (some more than others) and sometimes I don’t have time to listen to them but I’m thankful that they took the time to do the video to show me what I wanted to know. Sadly it seems the more people use these videos, social media so forth and so on the ruder we seem to be. Try to remember 2 things: 1st it’s a FREE tutorial for you (some of these people don’t make any money for sharing) and 2nd...if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything!! I’m fairly certain she has feelings too!! I’m sorry for going on and on but we need to stop being so negative about the simple things. Thanks again for your help with my hair!!
I always fail in my messy buns, but never thought about putting hairspray/texture spray/dry shampoo in. My hair is naturally pretty smooth so my bun just never looks messy 😂
Same here. I've tried it step by step 6 times and instead of a messy bun, all I get is a mess. It looks great on her. But on me, it looks like I am recovering from a bad hangover!
Only messy bun that works for layered hair (Or in my case, short choppy layers). Took a few tries but that comes with every hairstyle because nobody has the same hair but I got it to work. Thank you so so much!
I can't believe how many people are bothered enough by this talk-through style of video. There are plenty of videos that will rush through and simply show the steps, if that's what you like, go watch that. I for one LOVE Kate's personality and life, and I watch her videos because I enjoy that style. If you don't like something, that's fine. But keep the rude comments to yourself please.
Your bad hair day is all of our's dream hair day! Great tutorial. I always do an underside dutch braid into a bun and it is getting a little old...I need to change up my go to bun! Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi Kate! Thank you for explaining the type of products you used. That's what I struggle with, not knowing which I need to use. How do you take out the elastic, with this style, without damaging the hair? 😀
How do you comb out your hair after that much product? I love adding product to give my fine hair texture and grip, but it easily turns to a matted mess even when I baby it.
You explained each step well except for when you pulled it up, you said "fold it over" but didn't explain what that meant and it was hard to see what you did..
ugh finally i was looking for tutorials for thin hair the options were so limited and i couldn’t do it but finally i found this video and first try i did it and loved it there was a long strip i forgot in the back and i found it was a low for me so i did it a second time and its perfect thank you so much 10/10 recommended
My hair is super long now (I grow it out to donate and it's almost at my perfect "donation length") almost to my butt & I can never seem to get my messy bun to work with me at this length but it never occurred to me "to get a messy bun you need a mess". I just tried a messy bun after teasing and applying dry shampoo and it's perfect. Thanks!!
I have been trying to do a messy bun and despite my attempts never seem to get it ....... Until NOW!! Thank you it will be my staple hair up do from now on Xx
Wow, that explains why no matter what I do, I can't do a messy bun :( I have thick silky, straight hair, which does not tease and it usually pretty long 😭
Taral P you can still do a really pretty messy bun, it just won't look like this one. If you do a low one then it will look super cute because you'll have the silky strands hanging out
I have thin hair and its sleek for the life of me could not do a messy bun. When you said nonono start with a mess..I was like 'finaally' the secret! Thank you!!
Looks so easy......I think I over think the finished product. And the Amika texture spray is great, but I favor the Tweak-d 2XL Fiber Lift Dry Volumizing Spray. With my longer, fine hair I find it works better, lasts longer, and it takes soooo little to achieve amazing volume.
Newbie bunner here, when you do the very first thing in your hair, I don't know what you are doing, you say fold the hair over, but I'm not sure if you put the band round, and then I'm not sure what you do with the rest of ends of hair x
Kiera Djsjsj Nope. Just annoyed at the endless comments about how much talking she does. It's a video, she talks in it cause she wants to share about her life. If people hate it that much they can skip forward and it's not a big deal.
This is hands down the best messy bun I've seen!! 😍 I think you need to show someone with long hair how to do your messy bun and get them to post a tutorial because I have really long hair and none of the tutorials I've seen for long hair are anywhere near as good as yours ☹️😄
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen and it certainly won’t be the last!! Amazing!! Thanks so much for sharing this. Also, what hair spray are you using here?
I don't mind the talking, she seems lovely and I think this is the absolute best messy bun tutorial I've seen. Props!
I didn't have time to wash my hair this morning and I was in a rush. I thought I had your instructions committed to memory but I could quote it the bun to look the way I wanted to. Thank go for the ability to review your videos again and again! Total hair saver!!
casual bun- bobby pins, dry shampoo, a degree in hair dressing, a prayer
SERIOUSLY WHY IS IT LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLe FOR A LOOK SUPPOSED TO BE MESSY
Hello Itsme I noticed a channel called Lilly in the valley has an awesome messy bun tutorial
I really felt this like
Don't forget perfect hair
A prayer lmfao
I'm a stylist also but sometimes get in a rut with my own everyday styling. Watching you has brought some fun back into my life 😊
Your "bad hair day" would be my "dream come true hair day" :) Been following your blog/tutorials for a couple years now and they never disappoint!
Literally the first messy bun tutorial I've been able to follow-and it actually looks good at the end!! Thank you☺️
I’m a stylist in Pennsylvania working in a summit salon under lots of professional training with Redken!! and absolutely loved this video!! Description was on point!!! So useful!!
I have super thin and fine hair and this is the ONLY messy bun that works for me. Love your tutorials!😍
I've been doing this messy bun since you made the video 8 years ago and it is my staple. +Lu Kubin Same here! And to scrunch it all under your hand instead of twisting it around :)
+mang0cheeesecake Exactly!!!! The twisting never works
Well... I've just realised I'm a super lazy girl then!
I was looking for a lazy girl hair style and this is too much effort for me today haha! Damn it.
Jaydy fuzzylumpkin Young that's exactly me
@Jaydy fuzzylumpkin Young: Right there with you mama! LOL!!!

It's funny how many compliments we get with messy buns. 😂 they look great.
This was the first tutorial that was actually helpful in creating this messy bun look! Thank you so much! Lol literally life changing!!
This is THE best messy bun tutorial I've found - and I've watched many! It's detailed, slow, doable. While my hair is a bit longer than yours, the basics get me where I need to go and outline details I hadn't noticed - thanks so much! PS apparently I need to update my profile pic. 🙃

Marisa Ruiz
yes v annoying.

Actually she applied also hairspray and teased roots a bit. That's quite important for fine hair
I sure do thank you for that.....I'd prefer people to get straight to the point and quit beating around the bush.
Thank u
OKAY! I've been looking for a messy bun video that will work for me. After 1.5hrs Your video came up and was the easiest to listen to and understand clearly. I'm done. Thanks a bun ch!

Hands down, the best messy bun out there! I love your bun! :)
You're a real natural and genuine. thanks good tutorial.
I thought you just thew it up in a bun. I had no clue you guys had to actually work to make it look messy. 😂
Hanuse85 me doing it "tidy" is a messy bun
I just keep thinking about the aerosol sprays... is there a way to get your hair to work without such environmentally damaging products?
her messy dirty hair is 10000000000 times better than my clean "styled" hair!
:)
Same
palehoney79 me every day
lunatika GOOD GRIEF! Can someone help with my FRIZZY natural curl....this is a struggle!!!!!
I've noticed that it really helps to have highlights in your hair to give more dimension.
The highlights actually point back to the bun, emphasizing it even more. Good eye.
Wow, that's amazing!!! I have tried on many occasions to do this but I failed. Thank you for going into details about this!
I always fail in my messy buns, but never thought about putting hairspray/texture spray/dry shampoo in. My hair is naturally pretty smooth so my bun just never looks messy 😂
I wish my hair was like that on a bad hair day! Your hair is beautiful Kate!
Belle Fille
So glad I found your channel! I have the same soft silky hair and I just want texture and volume!
I try to do this with MY hair?
WHOLE THING SLIDES DOWN, REPEAT UNTIL UNTIL MY ARM IS TIRED, YELL AT THE MIRROR FOR 2 SEC, GO OUT WITH OUT BUN. -.-
Wow, I can't believe how many steps there are to making a mess. I definitely need to use more product on my stick straight hair.
every messy bun tutorial i watch is like impossible for me like wtf is wrong with me i cant do it
Same
Same here. I've tried it step by step 6 times and instead of a messy bun, all I get is a mess. It looks great on her. But on me, it looks like I am recovering from a bad hangover!

Can i just say that, for all your "oh im a mess and i havent done my hair" . . . . . . you look gorgeous and probably the nicest start to ANY day.
I just watch these to get jealous because I can't do my hair
Your bad hair day is all of our's dream hair day! Great tutorial. I always do an underside dutch braid into a bun and it is getting a little old...I need to change up my go to bun! Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi Kate! Thank you for explaining the type of products you used. That's what I struggle with, not knowing which I need to use. How do you take out the elastic, with this style, without damaging the hair? 😀
FIRST bun tutorial that actually looks good with my hair!!! ty!
Oh it's real easy...all you need to do this messy hair bun up is...
Start with : Kate's great head of hair.
The End :)
I
That's right... my hair is fine//thin so I can't do this without it looking stringy...
LeavingforVenus Inagettawaycar yep
I've been trying to do a messy bun all my life. I have naturally curly thick hair. This worked first try!!! I'm so excited!!
How do you comb out your hair after that much product? I love adding product to give my fine hair texture and grip, but it easily turns to a matted mess even when I baby it.
Whatever she does to hair looks so gorgeous!!!!
How do you do the "fold over" part?? That's the most important part and I still don't get it
Flip the pony over the opposite direction and start tying it with the elastic.
You are the cutest! I am a messy bun Grandma! TY for sharing and God bless you...beautiful!
Rose Pierce so am I! 73 in Texas. Lol 🌹
You explained each step well except for when you pulled it up, you said "fold it over" but didn't explain what that meant and it was hard to see what you did..
completely agree. no idea what she did there
She took the ponytail (that she didn't put the rubber band in) and folded it in half 😊
I too got lost at that crucial point! (Sigh.)
She folded the pony tail over toward the left of her head. That’s what I saw.
Thanks for the tip. That was helpful.
ugh finally i was looking for tutorials for thin hair the options were so limited and i couldn’t do it but finally i found this video and first try i did it and loved it there was a long strip i forgot in the back and i found it was a low for me so i did it a second time and its perfect thank you so much 10/10 recommended

EmmyIsSoNotCool o
Your hair is always beautiful regardless of how you fix it!! Can you tell me where your shirt is from? Super cute for a relaxed day! Thanks!
Kettering
6 minutes in and you have only just started making the bun
My hair is super long now (I grow it out to donate and it's almost at my perfect "donation length") almost to my butt & I can never seem to get my messy bun to work with me at this length but it never occurred to me "to get a messy bun you need a mess". I just tried a messy bun after teasing and applying dry shampoo and it's perfect. Thanks!!
you look so cute and I love your hair!
I have been trying to do a messy bun and despite my attempts never seem to get it ....... Until NOW!! Thank you it will be my staple hair up do from now on Xx
I see that you can do this with long hair but what about shoulder-length hair?
Thanks for the great explanation. Really appreciate the video and the trick with the dry shampoo and air spray before doing the bun.
So cute! What do you mean you're having a bad hair day!? I would kill for my hair to look like this❤️
This is the most perfect step-by-step hair tutorial I have ever seen.
u look so familiar, I adore u, keep it up 😁 plz plz could u make more tutorials about simple up-do for everyday, work and other things ...
Beautiful! Your bad hair day is my best hair day haha. Could you tell me what kind of haircut you have? It lends itself to so much volume!
Wow, that explains why no matter what I do, I can't do a messy bun :(
I have thick silky, straight hair, which does not tease and it usually pretty long 😭
Taral P you can still do a really pretty messy bun, it just won't look like this one. If you do a low one then it will look super cute because you'll have the silky strands hanging out
you're right actually! I feel like low messy (or neat) buns look much better on me! Thanks :)
You have the best hair texture! I am so jelly!
lol your bad hair day is my good hair day! btw loved the video it was very helpful :)
Just found your channel. Thank you so much! I needed you 👋💜
I have like two inches of hair so I'm not sure why I'm watching 😂 but this was beautiful!
I have thin hair and its sleek for the life of me could not do a messy bun. When you said nonono start with a mess..I was like 'finaally' the secret! Thank you!!
Your "bad hair day" is my good hair day lol
This was actually super helpful. Even 8 years later!
I've watched the flip part so many times and I still have no idea what you're doing 😂
Wish my bad hair days looked like yours...haha!
Same!! Her hair when it looks bad is how my hair looks when I Think it looks good! 😊
Newbie bunner here, when you do the very first thing in your hair, I don't know what you are doing, you say fold the hair over, but I'm not sure if you put the band round, and then I'm not sure what you do with the rest of ends of hair x
Actual bun making starts at 5:45😊
THANKYOU ❤️💘❤️
Hands down, the absolute best I've seen in forever.
WELL I LOVE ALL THE TALKING SHE DOES
Sarcasm?
Kiera Djsjsj Nope. Just annoyed at the endless comments about how much talking she does. It's a video, she talks in it cause she wants to share about her life. If people hate it that much they can skip forward and it's not a big deal.
K but the title is about a bun tutorial not a lesson in hair
This is hands down the best messy bun I've seen!! 😍 I think you need to show someone with long hair how to do your messy bun and get them to post a tutorial because I have really long hair and none of the tutorials I've seen for long hair are anywhere near as good as yours ☹️😄
she actually puts her hair up at 5:43
If I had hair like yours I wouldn't need a bun it's beautiful ❤
This is really the only messy bun tutorial that has ever worked for me.
I have tried video after video of messy bun tutorials and I've never been able to follow one so easy and it actually turn out cute!!! Love this video!
The real thing starts from 5:51 thanks me later😎
Thank you.. finally I have long enough hair to do this..your a great teacher.
How is this a tutorial you can hardly see her do the bun??
I love wearing messy buns.I get tons of compliments on them😊
Too long. Took 5 minutes to get to the actual bun portion.
This is the first video which learns me HOW TO DO MESSY BUN. And my messy bun is perfect 💗 Thank you so much 💕
she starts making the bun at 5:39 thank me later xx
+Emma Wouters Gawd almost an 8 minute video when i skipped 6 minutes just to watch her do something super simple. Thank you btw xD
+Azurite no problem xp
I'm cracking up. I thought your hair looked cute BEFORE you put it in the bun!! Haha!! Thanks for the tutorial.
Omg she looks like melissa joan hart
1JAwesome i thought more Kristen bell lol
Casey Englebrecht yeah her too. Kind of like a mix of both haha
