  • What is Bumping clearance ??
    How is Bumping Clearance measured??
    What is clearance Volume in compressor ??
    What is the effect of bumping Clearance on performance of Air compressor??
    When will bumping clearance change and what are the effects??
    This video deals with the topic of #BumpingClearance and #ClearanceVolume in a Marine Air Compressor.It also looks into some possible compressor damages associated with this .It also highlights the importance of Gaskets in Air Compressors.This a part of Marine Engineering Training Animated Videos from #RMETC videos.
    RMETC is a consultancy company for Marine Engineering Training specializing in conducted workshops on Hydraulic Failure Management Courses for various shipping companies, for their international crew. More details at website rmetc.co.in

    You are like a gem in the marine industry and very hard to come by. Your have combined the use of simple sketches , underlying concepts and clear explanation with a tinge of comedy ; all within a span of a handful of minutes. Our devoted attention is most guaranteed. This is exactly what we need because it really takes away the mental stress and boredom that sets in when we try to make sense out of lengthily explained texts , overly detailed manuals and construction drawings .

    Ramesh good one. To be simple clearance vol measured in cubics where as bumping clearance in mm(linear). Normally the con. rod is integral part of bottom end bearing. So shim insertion point cannot be done.
    In one case I heard while assembling one cyl head nut dropped inside and no one was aware. At the end they replaced a nut from spare thinking the lost nut might have gone to bilges. On starting they had a bang and piston damage. One more way of breaking compressor. So good practice is after o' haul try compressor for its free rotation manually

    • @pranayghadigaonkar5227
      @pranayghadigaonkar5227 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In M/E or A/E we don't have the gap between the cylinder head and top dead centre of the piston bcoz in Engine the combustion takes place after combustion every gas present should get exhaust so if we keep clearance in engine the whole process will disturb n efficiency of the engine will drop. That's the reason their is no bumping clearance in Engines

    ,sir can you tell us more about Free air Delivery and thus this is called the efficiency of the compressor?

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A compressor is a displacing device. The capacity of a compressor is obviously measured in Volume of Ar it can displace. Now , what is the volume of air a compressor can displace??. it is obviously the Volume of Air ENTERING the LP cylinder when Piston is at BDC. Now This air is obviously the FREE AIR, or the Air available at atmospheric pressure and temperature in the vicinity of the Air Suction Filter. Hence we always describe the compressor capacity in terms of FREE AIR DELIVERY. Otherwise it would create confusion..becoz Volume of Air depends upon the Pressure and Temperature of Air...which obviously keep changing. See our question ..You used the wrong term.FAD is CAPACITY of compressor.. not Efficiency.. Efficiency is the theoretical Volume of FAD which it is designed to displace to the ACTUAL volume ( FAD) it is displacing.

    • @rmetcvideos

    Sir Its known that as the clearance volume decreases, it increases our volumetric efficiency. As far as my understanding the following are the meanings for these terms:
    1) Volumetric Efficiency - The vol. of air actually swept inside to the theoretical vol. of cylinder.
    2) Clearance Volume- The diff. between the actual vol. of the cylinder and volume swept by the piston when it is at TDC
    3) Compression ratio- The ratio of total vol. of the cylinder ( swept vol. + clearance vol.) to the clearance vol.
    So whenever we decrease the clearance vol. both vol. efficiency as well as compression ratio should increase. Now interestingly i found on the internet that compression ratio varies inversely with respect to vol. efficiency, but i couldn't decipher how this is possible. Is this true sir ? If so please explain the reason behind it?

    How to know whether the cooling water flow is correct ?

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      well a bit tough. Need to blank off and hold pressurized water and conclude basis drop in water pressure and the time taken for the pressure drop and also observe the Drains. Cannot SEE the leak.Hence can only be done Indirectly. If leak is suspected and you have a strong reason then you probably need to remove the tube stack and make a special, tool with available material to locate the leaky tube.Maybe I should make a video to explain better

    Why is Bumping clearance not adjusted on one stage alone ?

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The idea is to dispalce as much Air as possible to the AIr Bottle. SO If bumping clerance is not adjusted in 2nd Stage, part of the air will remain in 2nd stage. SO the amount of Air which will get into the 2nd stage from 1st stage will be lesser . Unless you adjust 2nd stage , there is no benefit is adjusting 1st stage
