Never thought anyone could teach in such an amazing way…Most of your topics are those which are extremely difficult to visualise and you really make it a piece of cake.. Hats off sir… We genuinely need teachers like you without a doubt
I'm retired Marine Engineer. Did ship and Rig repairs for over 45 years. Beautiful memories. Love your Video" to the point. I see you old Guard. Keep on being the Mentor for the younger generation.
I never have seen such a detailed explanation of the stern tube chrome liner, this is like a Eureka moment for me, but yes recognised by Ramesh Sir. Thank you for such an amazing explanation.
Sir .. your videos and explanations clear all basic doubts .. the things which are difficult to imagine you make them look so understandable.. thank you !!!
Good day sir. Hope your wellness good. I have watched all-videos in your channel. Since giving my class 2 I have doubts with sealing arrangement of stern tube. Kindly include any video regarding that. I wish for you and your family a good health during this pandemic.
Even if it is going to be hours, we are eager to watch sir. Where else we get to see such a detailed video in every subject. Detailing and explaining are top notch, of course the man itself is such an experienced mariner. Only one thing to say sir, thanks for sharing your knowledge to juniors. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🫡
Nice one sir 👍... it’s not like that we have patience to watch long video... because your content is extraordinary...coming back to video... cover remaining part seals... their testing in dry dock... and please when even u cover any topic please cover latest one ... such as air seal... not old one two gravity tanks ... please cover pilgrim nut fittings with minute details ... stay safe sir and god bless you .. take care sir
Thanks for the thumbs up...would love to do as time permits..But the topics you are pointing out are very much circulating amongst the students ...they are HOT Topics ..so mostly everybody has access to some notes or other material. I am generally looking at the practical aspects where info is not very readily circulating.
@@rmetcvideos agree sir .... want to see from your eyes... testing of seals not covered ... also cover in case of leakage of oil temporary measures... cover TMON survey and requirements(class) ... many things are there ... and your steering gear regulation videos was amazing ... best ever made on cloud
Thank you sir for such informative videos they really help during meo class exams and very easy to remember. One doubt about shifting of seal holding block forward by removing distance pieces. I told surveyor during exam but he disagreed. I think only skimming method surveyor want to listen.
Ha Ha.. need to tell what the surveyor wants to hear..if you want to pass.. But need to know the facts if want to run ships...The distance piece removal method is not my invention .It is very much from the manual...Wont be surprised if he goes home and quietly reads more after disagreeing with you ..Ha Ha...Remember-- Surveyors and Chief Engineers are also humans who might have slipped thru the system without being aware of a few things...I know ...how much I dont know...
🙏Gr8 to know thag u liked it and also that u are from 🇧🇩 .Have nostalgic and happy memories of conducting Hydraulic workshops in Dhaka and Chittagong prior to Covid..
thank you sir for the useful upload...sir please can you confirm whether skimming the chrome steel liner affects the length of the nitrile rubber seals or the garter springs and do they have to be trimmed as well?
Not Really.. we dont do anything to the seals. WE are trimming the liner Diameter...not length.Seals do not get affected in anyway. THe trimming is also limited, so as to keep the hardness of the liner still active and also the effect of the garter springs not reduced beyond acceptable value...ANother small Correction to be made in the Video...The trimming is usually by GRINDING and by turning.. we normally do not TURN hard surfaces and hardened surfaces are using put through a grinding process.
Thank you again for the awesome content and way of presentation. Sir although we are not physically shifting the liner but we still call it the liner shifting method. Is it because of the relative shift of liner, as we shift the seal carrier.
How ?? Nothing is changing. Only the Seal casing is moving forward slightly. The Propeller shaft stays where it is.. obviously .there is no effect on vibration etc.
I guess everything is possible..but need to be done by experts with process which will need to be approved by Class.THe process may involved approval of electrodes with their base mettalurgy and also the welding process and the Heat Treatment and curing process..
Low suction pressure but the evaporator outlet pipe is not cold enough.....high suc press and evapprator suc pipe not gols enough...improper superheat etc
Plese note only removal of the distance rings are preferred to adding. Also there are gaskets between the distance rings. We can have any number of such rings, but normally u find two.
Sir even if you make an hour long video, i am sure a whole lot to engineers will watch till the end. This is true gem of a knowledge 🙏
Exactly ...I also thought same!!!
Me too
Perfect chief, all the way from the UK. Typical question in MCA chief engineer oral exams. Thanks again

Sir whats the space between shaft and sterntube between forward and aft seals
We have the stern tube...then frd and aft Bearings which you can see in yellow color and the seals..
Very good explanation sir!
Thanks Sir ..
Please keep teaching 👍

Sir although we are not physically shifting the liner but we still call it the liner shifting method. Is it because of the relative shift of liner, as we shift the seal carrier.
Yes, you are right
08:30 sir, we are pushing the seal forward. how about the sealing oil supply line. Wont it get disturbed?
Great explanation sir
Thanks a lot, Chief.
Thank you for the explanation sir
Sir
I have doubt about thrust block why thrust pad located only 180°- 240° only?
very nice video sir .. can you please share if you have any material regarding stern tube seal replacement.
OK .. will plan in due course..but a lot is vailable in inetrnet
Sir,
While removing and installing back, crome liner and seals are taking together?
Or first romove chrom liner, then seal.
Please reply
Generally together
@@rmetcvideos chrome liner is shrink fit with shaft right. So it also will take out by jack?
@@sreeprakashp5214 chrome liner is not shrink fit on shaft..it has got clearance..that is why you need centering...
@@rmetcvideos is there a maximum clearance of the chrome liner and the shaft?
but option 2 will affect the hull clearance therefore increase the vibration from the propeller, what do you think chief ?
How ?? Nothing is changing. Only the Seal casing is moving forward slightly. The Propeller shaft stays where it is.. obviously .there is no effect on vibration etc.
@@rmetcvideos okay, got it now, looking forward for more interesting videos, thanks
Sir the liner and shaft move together. There is no relative movement? As the liner is bolted to the boss??
The liner is not moving ..bcoz the distance ring is removed the seals are shifting wrt liner..obviously shaft cannot move bcoz of thrust bearing
Sir make some video on boiler and main engines
Explanation with simple terms.
Thank you very much.
Good explanation
Very usedul sir😊
Thank you sir👍
Sir can the tailshaft be repaired by welding in way of the keyway?
I guess everything is possible..but need to be done by experts with process which will need to be approved by Class.THe process may involved approval of electrodes with their base mettalurgy and also the welding process and the Heat Treatment and curing process..
thank you for your video sir
Sir how I come to know that thermostatic expansion valve working perfectly .. During normal round or watch keeping... ??
Low suction pressure but the evaporator outlet pipe is not cold enough.....high suc press and evapprator suc pipe not gols enough...improper superheat etc
Thank you sir.
Sir can you do a video about fwd crome liner maintenence.
Same concept as aft liner...Only Removal is different.
Please put video on stern tube bearing construction
Ha.Never knew that people would be interested in the construction part...OK..will keep it in mind
Thank you sir. How meet you?
where r you from
simple explaination
Sir we need your knowledge...
sir is chrome liner shrink fit to the propeller shaft?
No.It is slide fit...Can easily be removed...
Sir, does chrome liner rotates or it is stationary?
Since it is fixed to boss of propeller,it rotates...
very helpful
sir how we use poker gauge to measure stern tube bearing wear down
I think we discussed about thsi in the Stern tube repair video.ANyway it is done by removing the plugs given in the Seal housing
Plese note only removal of the distance rings are preferred to adding. Also there are gaskets between the distance rings. We can have any number of such rings, but normally u find two.
Thank you too
Salute
sir,
how is forward liner attached to the shaft??
Using clamp ring
Also one has to check for the seal unit concentric alignment.
thank you sir !!!♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Whr is guard ring in shaft sir
it is a cover with some sharp cutters which is welded to the the aft end of ship
Sir ,please make a video of stern tube seal repair when vessel is afloat
