Moving Through Russian Positions | Bunker Interview, British - Ukrainian Marine, Military Trainer

  • With a team of over 30 foreign and Ukrainian instructors, TDI is a full-service military training and equipment organization that has already trained more than 1500 Ukrainian servicemembers in everything from basic soldiering skills, communications, Anti-Tank warfare, intelligence, offensive and defensive drone piloting and advanced TCCC and Team Medic courses.
The founder, John, has been literally all over the world delivering combat medicine in several hotspots, including Syria and Myanmar. A few years ago he joined the Ukrainian Marines alongside Shaun and Aiden (which is how we met) and at the start of this invasion found himself in Bucha. But that's a story for another time!

Great interview. I really admire what John has done and is doing, especially concentrating on the medical side of things.
It really shits me when people call people like John "mercenaries" - it really demonstrates the ignorance of the general public's understanding of conflict, even after 20 years or so of extensive use of contractors by our own countries in Iraq, Afghanistan etc. That level of annoyance gets even higher when they are talking about someone like this who is obviously ideologically involved in the conflict they are serving/working in.
Re AFV recognition the Russian airborne infantry combat vehicle is the BMD. The BRDM is a 4/8 wheeled (4 wheels normally but has 4 wheels that can be lifted or dropped as required) vehicle. The BRDM's main rolez are reconaissance and anti tank , but I think there may be other variants, e.g. command and light SAM. The BRDM is armed with heavy MGs e.g. 14.5mm and on the AT variants ATGWs.

thank you for documenting a wonderful and fascinating soldier. Also just wow. what a story, and I would hope an inspiration for other young people. You can do something with your life and so much of his life was helping other people, training, medical, hospitals...so much was this was not "fighting" but caring.

Yet another excellent piece of content showing how varied the views and reasons are for foreign volunteers in Ukr. There are many of us Western veterans that may not have a political dog in the fight (being pro-Ukr or anti-Ru) but still want to provide assistance to civilians caught up in the middle. So perhaps a few interviews with Western NGO volunteers in non-combat roles. Also, absolutely love the analogy at the end between Western intervention in Afghanistan and Western aid to Ukraine - the difference is always morale or the willingness to fight.
