Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for taking the time to make this video sir! I’ve been on the fence about getting myself the timberline and this video swayed me to get one. Keep it up man and post more, your channel is great!
That's another thing between the ironwood and the timbermine. You'll notice great smoke performance with this new type of barrel design on these units. At any temperature they produce consistent and abundant smoke
You'll notice too. There's a little magnet on that side where the light is and that indicates that it's open for more pellet delivery and the light is letting. You know that it's responding to it.I don't necessarily think it's just for vision. That was not its intention.I'm not mistaken
I noticed just from feedback from my customers. The ironwood does take a pinch longer than the timberline. When it comes to high temperatures, but once it's there maintains pretty well, especially with the door sensor that's where the light lights up on the side of the hopper indicates to the logger to pump more wooden based on the fact that your girl lit is open, but I tend to do more low and slow myself. Some food items that you would like that. Smoke and taste don't finish as well unless you do cook high and fast. Haven't had any problems myself. And like most things when you're doing a smoke type.Cook take some time even at a high temperature so to be expected
What helps with that sometimes too if you want that extra smoking is that you can't get even though these units produce great smoke.Get a smoke tube and put some chunk pieces of wood.Whatever you're liking is off to the cooler side and that will help boost the smoke flavor if you're not getting enough from whatever pellet choice you've made and whatever temperature you're cooking at at least I find that helps
I used to use a smoke tube, but I've found I just don't care from the flavor those put off. I don't think they get enough air, so they just put out dirtier smoke than what I like.
@Viper515 i'm happy with my trigger.Timberline does a good job.So I don't necessarily need it a better friend with some older machines.Get decent results.Be well
What I would say. I'm not saying you don't do. It is always leave. It plugged in and connect it to the internet. And then you won't run into any issues. If there is an update when you have to cook and like any computer, sometimes it trips the machine out. Also I noticed sometimes from filling the hopper. You get dust particulars behind the knob. And sometimes it's not as responsive quick. Blow out will machine blow out something like that? Like a leaf blower type machine. Have a small one remedy that issue highly had. That happen to me one time. I have a trigger timberline. But the controller. S and hopper Also the auger are the same in the ironwood also
My grill says plugged in all the time. I assume this comment is around the point I brought up of the controller not responding? If so, it was definitely a software type glitch that day. None of the touch screen functions were working, either. I've had this happen one other time.
Do you find the unit is big? In other words unnecessary cooking space where you would be fine with the smaller ironwood? I have the timberline 1300 and thinking about going ironwood but between the XL and standard size.
I don't find it unnecessarily large. I also went from a timberline 1300 to this. My school of thought was that the XL was $200 more than the smaller one, so not an outrageous jump in price for the extra size. I also put as much as I can on it when in use (various meat, veggies, etc.). So, for me, it was an easy decision, but that's for my family and all we cook for. 🙂 My wife said "unnecessary space? Just put more food in it.". 😆 Lastly, I thought I was going to miss the old timberline, but I don't at all after getting this one.
@@Viper515 appreciate the insight. We’re a family of 4 but definitely don’t use the Traeger as the primary driver but I do enjoy using it, maybe when our kids are older currently 4 and 2 they will want more Traeger food. I just feel the 1300 is overkill for me.
I get it, completely. I tend to be this way on anything, if the size up is slightly more, I just do it. Might be a flawed way of thinking, but it's how I roll. I will mention that because of the giant shelf on the side and whatnot, the XL is physically pretty wide. It's wider than the 1300 by about a foot, I believe. So, that may need to come into consideration for you.
So, how does this thing work for stuff like hot wings? I will throw them on the grill at around 400-425 and I haven't seen any reviews saying anything on this.
I haven't actually done wings for quite a while, and I haven't done them on the Ironwood. Having said that, I think I can still comment on it. When I do wings, I like to smoke them on low heat for an hour, and then finish them at high heat (over 400). That has served me well when I have made wings. I think they would do well on this grill as well. Like I mentioned in the video, I don't do a lot of high temp stuff on this grill, but I have done some veggies on it at 450 that turned out great. Most recently, brussels sprouts were done the same way I do wings (smoke first, then high heat to finish). They were great! Smoky, and they had a nice crisp crunch to them. I think your wings would turn out well. Check out @PelletsandPits video (th-cam.com/video/0AAm4xJRGx8/w-d-xo.html). He dabbles in the very topic you bring up.
You can! Often I can hear the grill connect to the probes when I take a probe out of the block inside. It's great not having to leave the block outside to use the probes.
@@skillet4068 I knew I was going to catch some crap for that. 😆 I should have been a little more clear, by the time I get to it, it's just a small bit of smoke coming out. Yes, I have just put a couple drops on it to chill the ash out that is smoking, but not a full on grease fire when I've had this issue. Your point is well taken.
@@Viper515 Glad is wasn’t a fire. I saw someone do that once as their gas grill became a fireball when “grilling” chicken. They grabbed the garden hose and well…..the fireworks were the 2nd best pyrotechnics that night.

Thanks! Appreciate that. And the Timberline. Cool! Did you go with the XL or the regular one? I see the smaller one is on sale right now.

Hi mate, great video, what pellets do you use?
@@daveshalley4842 thank you. Appreciate that! I'm all in on Lumberjack pellets, especially their 100% flavors.

@@Viper515 If only the shelf folded down like the flatrock does. Might list my 1300 to see what traction i might get.
How do you like the flat rock?
Blue Smoke is the Holy Grail of BBQ!

Dump water into a grease fire?

Do you leave the lid open when starting it up?
I don't. Traeger doesn't seem to think you need to on this one.
