  • eachers often want students to focus and concentrate, but Greg Sicheneder teaches students to find that focus at Sonnesyn Elementary School in New Hope.
"Yoga Calm is more than just yoga. Yoga is small part of it but there's also community building, relaxation and breathing which can really help with anxiety," said Sicheneder.
As the school's social worker, Sicheneder has been learning and using Yoga Calm for the past four years. This school year, he plans to expand the practice to several classrooms at Sonnesyn Elementary.
"Anxiety is the biggest mental health issue with children and with the breathing mindfulness, and relaxation have all been shown to help with anxiety."
Besides Sicheneder's teaching, two other teachers will be trained in Yoga Calm. The training will be paid for by a grant from the Seven Dreams Education Foundation.
"I see students being more calm, less behavior referrals, I see students being able to get back to work, more regulated," said Sicheneder.
