      @@nicholasbradshaw @Nicholas Bradshaw Ferrari probably could've but they always had to run a bit of extra wing because their car was quite hard on its tyres. Keep in mind that RBR never pushed their engines hard during 2022. Ferrari did during the first half of the season and they were still slower.
      RB were super fast on the straights while being extremely kind on its tyres.As a whole package the RBR was just unbeatable. That car was a masterpiece.
      Top speed is not everything.Teams have to find the best compromise between downforce and top speed.

    • @nicholasbradshaw
      @nicholasbradshaw ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Baku doesn't have a balance, at least from my perspective. The straights (plural) are obscenely long, and the corners in the middle that would have seen downforce oriented setups reign supreme are either:
      a) too gentle to slow down the top speed cars,
      b) too slow for wing setup differences to matter, or
      c) so tight you'd need to start the race with half a car to squeeze in.
      (I'm not an expert. I just know a few things about motorsports from my time playing "pretend racecar driver" on the internet.)

      Their biggest issue in 2022 was aerodynamic drag, especially from the wings because they had to neuter the floor to stop the porpoising. This year they are not bad on the straights but they lack downforce, which is an even worse problem. And this stems from how difficult the setup window is for this car concept. At certain tracks they have to run very aggressive wing camber to be somewhat competitive in the corners, but at the cost of top speed. Then if they trim the wings they have a competitive top speed but they suck ass in the corners.

      you misinterpreting the situation. Mercedes was drastically slower than the alpine cause of the slower car. Ferrari 2019 would completely destroy the Mercedes (who was the best car) which left Ferrari suspicious including Red bull which made the first complaint after spa 2019.

      @@idontspeakspanish By the way in term of qualifying duel 1vs1 Mercedes W10 EQ Power+ is the second fastest car in history behind the W11.
      So dominating such a car as if it was a bottom grid journeyman raises questions.
      ~Also the qualifying duel between W10 and SF90 is 10-10 so they should both be ranked 2nd. But when you put each car in duel against other top 10 cars (W11, W09, RB16, RB15, SF71H, MCL35, RP20, SF1000), the W10 scores higher than the SF90 in those qualifying duels against a same opponent.
      Reason why i rank W10 as 2nd fastest car in history and the SF90 3rd.~

    Such a big difference cannot just be related to the setup though. The 2022 Ferrari was very draggy but it still reached 330 km/h without toe or DRS. Mercedes had a pure power deficit. And that deficit still persists today as it's believed that Mercedes has around 15-20 hp less than Ferrari and Honda.

      If they had a power deficit they would have horrible acceleration off the line, but they don't, even though their 2022-23 cars are heavier relative to the competition.
      Their problems lie in their car's aerodynamics, not their PU, which is probably still the best on the grid.
