Ha these types of exploring with film remind me of his videos though sadly where I was located there was a lack of those cool desert roads and broken old shacks!
Cars always remind me of my childhood in the 50s and 60s. Though i really love the old British cars.. I think the older camera is better in the daytime, and zone focusing is perfect for these situations. Safer to use in urban environs. Nice color renditions! Great job Matt!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I was in Samy's Camera (Pasadena, Hollywood and online) this morning and I looked at the bags of Xtol. expiration date Nov. 2024. Here they discontinued the small packs, but the 5l is for commercial machines. So far Samy's has new stock.
Very nostalgic results, almost vintage - I like it. Shows different mood then video part, one can see film makes it justice here. No people on the street in day light, only tourist from Europe :). And I prefer color film results - even as I shoot only B&W.
Hey Matt, I've really been enjoying using Ilford Microphen and pushing HP5 to 1600! It's a great combo as it keeps the grain in check and allows me to shoot into the night (I use a 1-5 stop variable ND filter for the day). Keep shooting film (and digital) and stay inspired. :-)
Fantastic shots! If you want to save some scanning time on the 35mm, and get higher resolution, have a look at the Valoi Easy35. It's entirely self contained - no copy stand, it attaches directly to the camera, has a built-in light source, and NO film holder required 😊
Yes! I've done Brighton on film, see the video linked at the end. I want to go back and do it again. Blackpool would be another good one (but a bit further now I've moved closer to London)
Excellent Matt, thumbs up again, you gotta love those vibrant colors of film, the skies remind me of the old postcard images of holiday places in my youth, great trip on memory lane. I kinda like these videos cause the main subject is shooting and not gear. The shots are very good but when it comes to Las Vegas - Leica shooting, I am spoiled, spoiled by my good buddy Ted Vieira, a Las Vegas local Leica B/W film shooter, next level contrast stuff (if you are into that) Great tips about the filter to simulate the older lenses. There is a mail on its way with, new stuff for your European model shooting and probably models you know. Keep up this kind a videos. Are you still gonna do a " your favourit Voigtlander Lens" choice around Christmas, so looking forward to that one. Thanks for sharing !
Thanks Rob! (and for the emails.. not got to them yet). Noted on all the points, thanks and yes I'll make sure I do the Voigtlander video nearer to Xmas. Cheers!
I bought a 1931 Barnack 1C because your first review convinced me, but back then you chose the Voigtlander 28 and put a Voigtlander 21/25 VF on top. Understand using the 40 due to the 50mm built-in VF on the Barnack. So you seldom use the 28 anymore? I have so many 50mm M lenses that I wanted a best zone focus street film camera so the LTM 28 as you FIRST suggested is what I now own. Just CLA'd my Barnack and again ready for some zone street use. Is the 21 Voiglander LTM lens any good and have you tried super wide? Talking street use only here.
Hi yes that you have the same camera. Don't use specific things just because I use them as we are all different and all see the world differently. Depending which videos you watched I started with the 25mm Voigtlander on the 1C + 21/25mm finder. Optical it was not always good enough so I used the TTA 28/5.6 new LTM one, it's good, but then the new Voigtlander 28/2.8 LTM was released so I bought that. I use the 28mm for wider scenes and 40mm for smallest setup. I also use the LLL 35/2 8E lens. LLL are/have making new finders, 35mm currently and 28mm hopefully to come. Once I have a small 28mm LLL finder I'll use the 28mm Skopar more.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I bought 1C because of liking to zone focus over last 40 years with my M's. I like my M 24/1.4 lens so the 25 LTM fit into my regular use just fine. How long do you cut the film leader? 15mm or so?

Nice color renditions!
Great job Matt!
Thank you! Yes I prefer the smaller old Leica for street pictures like these.
Photos look great -- the colors especially are beautiful.
Thank you! Kodak Ektar colours!
here in the States, Xtol (my favorite) is stll available in powder for 5 liters. It's a big bottle, but it seems stable and lasts a long time.
Ah great. I think it might be old stock so get some if you use it. In Europe there are now substitutes available so I ordered that.

The license plate on that hearse is just too dark 😅 Ektar looks good 👍
Haha, yes it made me smile! Thanks Thomas (New Rotterdam Patreon video coming soon, uploading now!)

It's a Leica I Standard isn't it? Leica iii has rangefinder and slow speeds.
Correct! Sorry I said Leica iii in parts of the video as any of these old cameras can be used (and the iii are more known than my 1931 version)
Yes. The 1s sold in smaller numbers after rangefinders were introduced about 1932 and some were upgraded to have rangefinders.@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
BW was better in the daytime. Color was better at night.
Yes I think so too! Neons never look as good in B&W
