I first heard Bergonzi in about 1967 when the Price/ Bergonzi/ Merrill Ballo in Maschera came out.I was confused at first as I was most familiar with Del Monaco. I thought that such loud and assertive singing was a superior mark. Bergonzi seemed fussy and intellectual, which to my teen ears was barely worth a listen. But as time went on, Bergonzi was the one who made the 19th century masterpieces see, alive and relevant as he was so able to enliven text through that fantastic ability to shade, color and musically shape the line of text. His phrasing and molding of the text and music was what I heard in my head when the music came to mind. What an incredible artist he was. I don't ,ean to diminish other tenors of the era as each major one had qualities which were and continue to be treasurable. But like Pavrotti may have said, he's the, "boss ".
I heard Bergonzi live, and Pav-he was never in his shade, why people have to extol their favorite at the expense of other greats..... Bergonzi live could be magnificent and then inconsistent-and his top was the same way, and the truth be told sometimes it never made it, at least on pitch. Never Pavs problem. Bergonzi really a spinto, Pav a large lyric. Neither could embody most characters on stage-Berngonzi could't act period. Pav in the right role had an expressive face, and at least when younger could move. Both were great in different ways.

Geweldig !!!!!!!
There is a reason why Pavarotti called him “the boss”. He was such a sensible and intelligent singer!
E lo preferisco di gran lunga a Luciano...
Pavv with his belting could not even stand in his shade!

Bjoerling.said he was excellent !
That is a rare compliment!
always in our ❤❤❤
The only tenor which made studio recordings with Callas, Caballe, Sutherland, Moffo, Price, Scotto, Deutekom, Stella, Tebaldi!
Sills too.....Lucia di Lammermoor

@@francoisjoubert6867 Bergonzi is one of my role models. Polished and very stylish.

Que maravilla!!!
Immenso Maestro Bergonzi. Ascoltato molte volte in Arena a Verona ne ho un ricordo meraviglioso. Grazie Maestro❤❤❤❤❤
Masterful interpretation with vocal equipment used at its limit.
Bella! ❤️
Welch ein edler Tenor!
Bravo maestro Bergonzi...
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Wonderful !!!
Where was this performed? Was it at an American awards show, like the Oscars?
It was at the New York State Theatre and was the 1983 Gala of Stars, a PBS fundraising event.
@@liedersanger1 Thank you so much!
Il canto è regale!!!
Tuttavia Dal SOL in su ,ha problemi sugli acuti...
Un tenore non dovrebbe averli mai!!!
I agreed.
Een waardige opvolger van bjoerling
Bergonzi had limited vocal resources.
Technically stunning. I wonder if it's because he began life as a baritone and had to learn how to use the top of his voice?
Si ha iniziato come baritono
Nunca me ha encantado este tenor... y esta interpretación lo confirma...
He was brave to sing publicly past his prime.
Style and techniques but past his best. .... voice, voice...
Bad high notes tecnhique
Bergonzi is interesting: a great stylist but not an inherently very attractive voice
Nevertheless one of the very greatest tenors
Vocalità "padana" 😮
Sa di. . agnolotti al sugo 😂
