VIncenzo Scalera is a magnificent partner, not calling him an accompanist, because he is a true magnificent partner. One of the greatest alive today! BRAVO! Just discovered him by listening to him with Juan Diego Florez onTakt1! Great pianist and musician
As I have just posted elsewhere on youtube, Bergonzi is the very greatest tenor of the past 100 years, with the possible exception of Caruso. Incredible.
Sounds to me like he models his style on Gigli but although I admire him he is a poor second to Gigli listen to anything he sings then Gigli No comparison
Sorry John I can't agree with you. Gigli at his best is a great tenor but he has poor taste much of the time and is far too self-indulgent with excessive vibrato and breaks up the line, showing a lack of appreciation for the composer's intentions. Bergonzi never offends against taste or style.
You have no idea what you are talking about Offending who I would ask Bergonzi is a manufactured voice Gigli was a natural successor to Caruso Bergonzi if he were alive would laugh at you comparing him to Gigli obviously you are not a singer and if you are your a poor one You not agreeing with me made me laugh 😂 nobody would agree with you I could name 40 Tenors better than Bergonzi
You are entitled to you opinions. I have trouble seeing how he is a greater tenor than di Stefano, Gigli, Wunderlich, Corelli, Pavarotti, Bjorling, and Del Monaco.
@andresfRC The songs that signor Bergonzi sings is in order: 1. Cesare Andrea Bixio, Solo per te, Lucia 2.Ernesto de Curtis,Ti voglio tanto bene 3.Cesare Andrea Bixio,Mamma 4..Cesare Andrea Bixio,Parlami dámore Mariù All four songs belongs to the repertoire of the great Beniamino Gigli.
In 1951, after retraining his voice, he made his debut as a tenor in the title role of Andrea Chénier and still at this age he sings marvelously! He must be doing something right technically, yes? LoL
Absolut.
Ferruccio Tagliavini much better singing this a baritone or even a bass could sing in these keys that’s tenor quality not tenor tessitura put a decent voice beside him you wouldn’t here him Stupid eyes looking to the ceiling singing F lol 😆 Just love the pianist

Very enjoyable. Good to know that this great singer had such a long life.
Love this intimate setting. Saw him and went backstage so many times at the old and new Met.
Bravo Bergonzi!
What a lovely document and the quality of the picture and sound is also excellent!
Very good and the accompanist is gorgeous!
He's got a certain nobility in his singing and demeanor which you hardly find in any other tenor.
Understatement of the century. One of the very greatest singers
Vincenzo Scalera is a very sensitive partner. A great partner.

principally not singing operas or pieces not for your voice, and living without danger.

This recital was a "Tribute to Gigli".

Ferruccio Tagliavini much better singing this a baritone or even a bass could sing in these keys that’s tenor quality not tenor tessitura put a decent voice beside him you wouldn’t here him
Stupid eyes looking to the ceiling singing F lol 😆
