    Thanks for making this and doing a shoutout to SkooledZone. I watched his version a bunch and just couldn’t understand! He’s normally so great about explaining stuff. But your version I got right away.

      I can't get it to work. it doesn't jump from the conduit to the switch for. I did exactly what she did. anything I am missing? like hold down attach wire or release it quickly or something?

      @hank scorpion be sure when you are looking at the generator to do the wire glitch your looking through the wire (the wire is highlighted) and do the same when you aim at the item you are trying to power

      Likewise... Ska is hard to follow, works in the dark for some reason, bounces around in topics, and at times just goes too fast to really see/hear what you need.

    Thank you for explaining the wire glitch in this video every other video i watched just kept saying wire glitch like I was supposed to know it.
    To break this down
    Place generator. preferable fusion so you don't need to upgrade or change later
    Place conduit on ground
    Place item you want to power behind you [ it even works with other conduits ]
    Link the Conduit on the ground to the generator
    While looking through the wire at the generator hit the attach wire button [ if done right you will hear the electrical noise]
    Then turn around and face the item you want powered you need to step back so you can look at the item through the wire again, hit the attach wire button again [ this is the step that I was messing up on i wasnt looking through the wire again]
    Then after the wire jumps look at the Conduit on the ground hit select to pick it up
    The wire will jump back to this Conduit.
    Place the Conduit back on the floor
    Then store that wire
    The item you use is now wifi powered repeat as needed
    Don't store or delete the generator after it has connections your game will bug out and crash.. remove the powered items before changing generators

    Very well articulated , most helpful vid on the subject. I've been using this trick for all my latest turret mounts (high up on walls.)
    I think those wall mounted spot lights are stupid , they rise by looking down/backing up & lower by the opposite. Plus they twist around & don't stick to anything. When you do get them to work the arc they make lights up more of your buildings than enemy territory. Cait says "their shite" & I agree w/her. What I do like is the Vault 88 miscellaneous colored boxes that work great for placing under stair landings to keep settlers from being trapped there. (Wish you could stack them though.)

    You can connect the generator to a pylon first and use that for the glitches. Then the pylon is the main point of connection, and you can delete / replace the generator without destroying all the invisible wires.

    I've been playing with this a lot after I saw it on Skooled Zone. It's fantastic! A couple of things to make this even easier:
    1) The generator doesn't have to be at any certain height. Same for the conduit and the object to be powered. As long as you can highlight the wire while getting the reticle on the generator's (or object's) connection point, it will work. I've done it at all kinds of weird heights and angles.
    2) After initiating the second wire glitch, you don't have to go back and select/cancel the conduit in order to store the wire. Simply store the 'glitched' wire after attaching it.
    3) You can use a 'wirelessly' powered object to in turn power other objects 'wirelessly'. For instance, you can glitch a power pylon to the generator, then use that in the place of the generator (in the glitching sequence) to power say, other switches or conduits, also wirelessly. Really nice for keeping power to a building (or set of buildings) on it's own network, but still all completely wireless. If you just glitch everything to the generator you won't be able to control the power in a building or in a grid from one switch, if that makes sense.

    I was learning this glitch for the first time on ps5. It works, when I got the hang of it, I removed 1 generator before I removed the wifi device. When I highlighted the now powerless wifi device, the game crashed and had to be reloaded. It must have gone back to erase where the glitch started as my auto save points were lost

    Best explanation, solved all my issues derived from watching there other prominent channels and just not grasping what they were trying to say. Questions: 'delete?' = store or scrap, or both? As to the generator problem if 'no longer existing in the world,' does that also transpire if simply shot to death by raiders, outputting zero power... or insufficient power for the number of devices? Related: does the method even track how much power is used with multiple connections. I'll get the answers for myself, just suggesting the kinds of things inquiring minds want to know, before strategizing deployment of the tech. SOLUTION proposal... Two generators to a proxy pilot, and work the glitch to the pylon instead of the generator. Then if one is clobbered... the other still supplies power. Probably not... but I'll end up trying it at some point.

    Would not work with a street lamp for me,I believe the caveat here is the object your trying to wirelessly power needs a conduit of its own of which the street lamp does not but I decided to use a turret light and it works like a charm,see I wanted to light up the streets of santuary because I have the zombie walkers mod and I often get attacked by hordes in the middle of the night which I love but it's aggravating because I can't see where I'm shooting and often accidentally shoot my settlers and then all hell breaks loose.Great glitch and very well demonstrated!

    1. Use this glitch as shown on a switch,
    2. then repeat this glitch using the switch, in replace of the generator. glitch on any item you wish to power up.
    and if done right you will have a switch that will control the items you have connected / glitch it to remotely..

  • @AutodidacticPhd
    @AutodidacticPhd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The crash sounds like a broken child/parent reference problem. As long as the cell is loaded, the flag on the powered objects remains unchanged, but as soon as the cell needs to update it goes through and checks to make sure that all the Ref objects that need power have a parent object powering them... when the glitch is working they all still have "wires" as far as the code is concerned, they just don't have the wire reference object that lets you see and change that flag. You can sort of think of it like, the wires are actually there for your benefit so that you can control those flags and prevent you from creating a child object with no parent. It makes me wonder what happens if you then attach a wire from a different generator to one of these wireless objects.

    • @WastelandDovahkiin
      @WastelandDovahkiin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hadn't thought to try that one. I did wonder what would happen if the generator is damaged in a settlement attack, would that affect wireless items? Would the game crash then too? Or would it still register the generator even though it's not working?

    • @AutodidacticPhd
      @AutodidacticPhd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! I want to say that, as long as both the parent and child objects exist they should be able to call eachother in any normal situation... so a generator damaged in an attack should still tell your "wireless" objects that they don't have power, and repairing it should still restore power... but I can't be sure. Hehe, and testing it risks crashing the game. I'm about to go test some other questions I have right now... not sure I'll test that one though ;)
      In any case, this definitely confirms to me that whatever it is that wires actually do in the code, it isn't what they pretend to do (namely, they aren't literally a middleman object between generators and powered objects) but are more like an in game handle or tooltip.

    • @WastelandDovahkiin
      @WastelandDovahkiin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to test that one for the video, but settlement attacks are so random, it could take ages for one to happen, and I'd have to put a "wireless" object in each settlement and hope that the generator would actually be destroyed. In my game at least, generators rarely get destroyed in attacks.

    • @AutodidacticPhd
      @AutodidacticPhd 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I'm on PC, so I have the advantage of console commands. If I remember to, I'll go ahead and start a test character and just turn hangman's alley (since there are only two narrow avenues of attack) into an ideal test case... put a wall of generators at each end and pack it full of water pumps and settlers doing nothing but farming. Shouldn't take long for that to get hit and lose.
      Of course, the easy test is to just destroy a generator yourself... though there are differences in the two situations. I didn't get far in my own little experiments, as I'm currently trying to grind out the Wasteland Warlord 3 perk, and since raider outposts are so ridiculously needy, I kept getting distracted.

    I went to the Skooled zone video about this, but his way of explaining it, I couldn't understand it. You explain much better in my opinion. I do have a question about the switch. Do switches power nearby objects or an entire house/building?

    • @WastelandDovahkiin
      @WastelandDovahkiin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They power about a two square radius. So basically two floor or wall sections in each direction. So for a large building you'll need more than one.

    • @WastelandDovahkiin
      @WastelandDovahkiin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did notice it, after I was done recording. It's because I placed the letters before powering them, and sometimes those neon lights don't light up if you place them before they're powered, and you have to pick them up and put them back down to turn them on.

    • @AutodidacticPhd

    Thanks for the tip Dovahkiin; I only have one question. Maybe you tested, maybe not. If these glitched wires do "exist" is it safe to assume that if the generator is powered off, they'll lose power also? When we turn off the source generator, do the "wired" object shut down too? If so, it can be safe to assume they'll also power back up? If the code believes the wires are there, I would assume they'd behave as such.
    Anyhow, thanks again. See you around
