Almost 2023 nd this guy is still teaching ppl new things. Lol I just found out about this channel month ago nd damn am I learning a lot to help this settlements I'm building. I'm still not really good at any of them except the rug glitch nd idk but I can never get the pillar glitch to work for me when I select all, but I'm sure I'll get it down some day. Thanks for making these awesome videos, hope you accomplished your goal of being able to do TH-cam fulltime.
It's June 27, 2024, and I'm about a month into Fallout 4 (GOTY) for PS4. I picked it up at a Gamestop for about $10. I'm hooked, having fun, and having a great time. I found your channel and will have to redo my previous settlements and use your tips, tricks, and excellent ideas on all my next settlements. Thanks for your great content.
I seriously appreciate your video. I only recently learned of the true wire glitch, but I never thought of using it to run wires underground/out of sight. I couldn't stand having all those conduits and pylons and wiring all over the place JUST to get the settlement lit. I will ALWAYS use this method from now on in all my settlements. Thank you for Skooling this adult.
One thing I like to do is to set up sub-centrals, i. e. conduits in various places in a settlement which I then connect to the main conduit. I then connect everything in that area to the sub-central. It saves me having to run all the way back to the main one every time, especially in larger settlements.
...and then you can cover the conduits with stuff, like crates that you rug glitch on top of them. Leave the rugs in place to make the cover easy to move if you need to adjust the wiring.
Thank you so much for these videos, I just started playing Fallout 4 after years of Skyrim plays because I wanted to try the settlement builds and the " wires everywhere" annoyed the heck outta me. You do such a wonderful job teaching.
I gave up being a purist soon after getting the game and in the past few months added Sim Settlements as an alternative to extending the game play. Even using SS, I still like to build out my settlements with other structures and I have wire dangling all over the place so this gem is well received by this player. Thanks.

lol. . . They are tricky. But, you CAN scrap all of them that are hidden in the hedges. It takes some time, and usually on accident. Sometimes, in order to get them to highlight, you have to actually not look at them, directly. Keep them in your field of view, while in build mode, and just keep wandering back and forth. You've probably already tired this. But, eventually, you can find that one, tiny spot, that makes it highlight, so that you can scrap it. Looking at the ground seems to help me the most. That, or I am trying to scrap the fence next to it, and the post highlights. The post are the tough ones though.
I use a ps4, and tried mods to get rid of the picket fence piece, doesn't scrap with STS or USO... not sure I'll be able to scrap it even with mods. I'm resolved to just not scrap the broken fence around it next playthrough... just like that one bit of dirt under the bottom door from the drugstore into vault88
@ B. B. Rodriguez. . . .In Sanctuary Hills, there are only 2 pieces of fence that you can't remove. Those being the ones on the Eastern most lot and are placed outside the normal boundaries. Even on pc, they are problematic (using console commands). Everything else, like the fences in-bedded into the hedges, CAN be scrapped. Without mods! Like I said, it takes patience, and some good luck trying to get them to highlight. My best solution, is to go into build mode and look at the base of the fences and move back and forth, scanning the area for objects that can be scrapped. Or looking at the fence from an angle (my best solution, to date). Eventually, you will see the option to scrap. Once you do that, hone in on that location, until it let's you scrap "something". so , i am tots watching these out of sequence, you basically set up the parameters for the wire distance by attaching it close to the origin point, then glitch it by grabbing the wire and moving it way past the point it should. Awesome
@@SkooledZone I am, in my current build, using a mood called mini generators. I just attach one near the item requiring the power and run a wire from there then use the pillar glitch to sink it into the ground under it out the wall behind it..
12 minutes in, and I still don't have any idea how you are hiding wires??? Is there some point in this video where you actually explain how this is done? Because "stare at the wire" isn't working.
Bastian, this was a sequel video to the original wire glitch video. I mentioned that a few times in the video, but here's the link that's in the description above that should answer your question: th-cam.com/video/36lgmEaprio/w-d-xo.html
To do the glitch, you just have to position yourself with the wire in front of the conduit. So you are looking at the wire with the conduit behind the wire, with the wire still highlited. Press space bar and you will have a invisible wire, that will become visible once you attach it to another conduit. Hope that helps.
Omg this is so brilliant. I don't know why I didn't think of this. I would love to see a shop class about how you'd do power through vault 88 (since the power runs through the floor). I'm building my vault and running into weird glitches where things aren't lighting up and should be.
Thanks Matty. And I know what you're talking about with the vault-tec conduits. The problem with those is that all the floor or wall types have to be the same. So if there's ever a break, it breaks the connection. So be honest, I don't even bother with them. They're too much hassle. I just hook up the super-reactor to whatever I want using the method in this video. 👌
Right on Sam. But a "cheat" would be more like using a PC command to give yourself infinite caps. My tips are more like overcoming shortcomings in the game. This wiki article talks about the differences in exploits :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_exploits#Common_types
There needs to be a mod where whenever you engage in melee combat that scene from "the cable guy" starts playing and when your character hits it makes the noise Jim carry makes.
Great way of using the wire glitch. I never thought of running all the conduits underground so that you didn't see them. But i made my more of a feature on my building. Hopefully i'll have it completed soon and then i can show you my full building.
I am screaming right now. I had 30 settlements looking like absolut trash because of all the crazy wiring! Why didn't I check out your channel 2 months ago?!?!?
Great video dude. I'm definitely going to do this with my settlements. I like the fact you didn't cut the video on Spectacle Island and the music gave it a comical feel. You have a great channel and I hope it continues to grow.
Hi Paul, I watched a lot of your videos and now I finally subscribed your channel. Thank you for all tips and tricks, it makes settlement building much more enjoyable. And I probably wouldn't know about this wire glitch without your video. I can now take my time making the Vault 88 settlement a better place, because right now it is totally ugly there. :) Thanks again!
THAT WAS A GREAT VID. Thank you. Now i realy want to start building. I work at a power plant for 30 years now, and i was NOT going to have wires hanging all over the place. Patrik Hjorth has the right idea. We call them Sub stations and MCC's ( moter control centers )
I know there is a massive amount of knowledge inside these videos. But I don't wanna spoil the fun for myself. I think I will keep on using ton of wires and pylons and stuff for now on.
After reading lots of comments about people claiming the "wire glitch" only works underground, I can confirm that it does work above ground too. An example being to wire 2 street lights together using the "wire glitch". Normally there is a limit on how far apart 2 objects can be wired together, this limit is removed when using the "wire glitch", even above ground. The wire does tend to sag quite badly if the street lights are far apart, but it still works. In case you didn't know, once you release Preston from the museum, if you make raider settlements in the commonwealth, Preston will no longer talk to you, and all of the minutemen quests become unavailable. The only way to have the Minutemen and the Raider settlements at the same time, is to leave Preston in the museum until after you have completed all the Raider objectives. He still won't talk to you until after you do "Open Season" and kill the raider bosses, but then the minutemen quests will begin.
A quick note on wire length: the game lets you initially string it to any length you like, but the engine will often "forget" longer wires on cell load--from testing, it starts getting iffy around 200 yards or so. The wires don't go away; they just stop working. Easy enough to fix--just pick up and drop the attached conduit to remind the game there's a wire there and it resets.
That's a great tip SarDeliac. Sometimes I have to do that with regular lights too if I've gone way over the size limit and they turn off on their own. By the way, I think this is the first time you've commented on my channel. Nice to see a talented fellow builder drop by. 🍻
9:07 if you're using multiple lights/switches make sure to run them all through a terminal so you can control all switches at once instead if having to run to each one. 10:49 as for the stuff like that picket fence. you can get rid of it via console commands. (so still no mods, =D ). open the console (`) and click on the item. then type "disable" and press enter. if you selected the right item, it'll fade. then type "markfordelete" so it'd completely be removed next time that area is loaded. (if you disabled the wrong item, you can just "enable" to bring it back). course this is on pc... on xbox or ps, than no idea 19:46 there is a limit to the length of a wire if you're not using the glitch.
Man I got more humor out of this one than some of your others. LOL 1 - Mama Murphy being the drink dealer. The humor in this for who don't know or haven't done the vault 88 line - the soda fountain is kind of a... drug... LOL!! So you have a user, being a dealer...full circle joke right there. 2 - "Don't want a bunch of water pumps messing up my clean river." Literally a river of rads. LOL 3 - Literally lost it on the Benny Hill music. i don't know why that song makes me laugh out loud every single time, but it really does. HAHAHAHA man....so awesome. hahah
I knew this trick, but it never occurred to me to apply it quite like this. I like the realism of generators and pylons, but practically adding and using power can lead to some really ugly configurations. So I think I'm going to start wiring my settlements like this instead. Cheers.
Well in this particular version, you're really just running the wires underground. But in this sequel video, you _can_ actually make them go invisible: th-cam.com/video/YdaR7m4gct4/w-d-xo.html
Great video. Love your ideas thank you. If you wire things above ground the “normal” way there is a wire length limit. Awesome to know there isn’t with the wire glitch. Thank you.
I wanted to let you know something about the fence outside the building area. Before a certain patch I was able to hold the A button on a single piece of fence and pull all of that fence back into the settlement build area. I have a suspicion, I haven't tested yet, that if you get the issue of Picket Fences that allow you to build the fences you can do that still.
Hi Paul. Sorry I was running a little behind on watching my You Tube videos, but I managed to watch the latest Skyrim playthrough & comment. Almost done with the Stones of Baranziah (think these may be the ones that are months old b4 I get them, but not sure). This is just what I needed to inspire me to clean up my settlements. I'm revisiting them all to give them different clothing that is armored with ballistic weave, 4 diversity & to make sure all settlers have jobs. That idea you had with the children's jungle gym dome & that generator was genius. I have yet to get used to using the glitches to my advantage, but, since I really don't have any more quests, I have all the time in the world to try things out & get acclimated. Dude. What I 😍 about you is that you are practical and totally fun and we can hear how it's also fun for you in your voice. Oh, MAN! I was dying over the Benny Hill music speed 🏃. How awesome would it be if you could look behind you and see a line of companions following quickly in a line behind you, like on that show? I kept picturing that 1 lil old man whose bald head always got pat. The timing was so perfect for the trip. And the tiny Skooled 🚌. Adorable. I love seeing ideas for using vanilla assets to make objects in the game that are broken & can't be removed, have new life. I wish we could use the pillar glitch to select dead bodies & bury the S.O.B.s underground. I also wish there were headstones or something that could be used for them to create makeshift family graveyards. Can't wait to see Sanctuary as a raider settlement. Someone mentioned that you can't have possible companions in them, though, so Preston will have to go. BUT, that means you'll have to talk to him. Or choose a different settlement to enslave. 😢
Hehe. Glad you're having fun with the episodes. And yeah, I really enjoy doing this. It's my dream job. I just wish I could hurry up and do it full-time. Seems like it's taking forever to get there. But I persevere. Still haven't decided if I'm going with the good or evil ending to Nuka World. Still mulling that over.
You can also (on console) click the workshop then click Tilde (the button above tab on your keyboard) then type Scrapall (one word) and scrap everything scrapable at that settlement at one time.. But do it before you build anything as your builds will be scrapped as well..
Appreciate all the building advice. I'm confused on how there are different build-ables in your workshop menu than I but I have the dlcs. I think the last generator on my list is the windmill one
I don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but there is actually a welding mask you can get from certain BoS troopers (engineers). I don't think NPCs who wear it actually flip it down if they are doing a welding animation, but it looks pretty cool anyway.
Using the double wire glitch (copyright SkooledZone) you never have to have wires ANYWHERE! Self powered items, powered switches, it's glorious. I hated wiring up, that single tip has improved my game experience ten fold.
If you're on PC and want to get rid of things like those fence posts in Sanctuary that you can't scrap, you don't need a mod, you can just open the console with the tilde key, click on the fence post to get it's unique ID number, then type "disable" (without quotation marks) into the console and hit enter, and the fence post will go poof. Have Fun :)!
I've just started another playthrough and am at 20th level. Still learning and experimenting with new building techniques, thanks to you. You're awesome! 🦾
Not sure if you know this but the Industrial Water Pump that only work in water can be pillar glitched onto land after you place them in water...I saw it on another channel.
You know, I tried that a while back and it didn't work. But your comment inspired me to give it another try and I figured out why it didn't work the first time I tried. You have to hook up the power using the wire glitch after you pillar glitch it into the ground. So thanks man!! Now I have an Industrial Water Pump on land and I'll have to find other places to hide them since they can only be buried about halfway into the ground. ⭐
Don't know if anybody else has commented about running wires underground for a long way, but try it above ground and you'll find a very definite limit. maybe the wire underground can go so far because it's out of the game world?
When putting the vault tech reactor into the jungle gym in sanctuary like you have at the 3:35 mark, i have the wire going underground to the reactor the wire keeps disconnecting how do i keep it connected when putting it under ground?
If the light only has a ⚡ and no number beside it then it only needs a power source but doesn't take up any units. If there is a ⚡ and a number, that's how many units the item snatches from your generator. Most lights just need a power source and don't have a number in the listing. Construction Lights, for example, have number 1 in the listing. So that means they subtract 1 from your generator's output. If you install something like a fusion generator or larger you usually will never run out of power for anything in your settlement.
I wonder if you can connect a wire from sanctuary to sepctical if you disable the out of build area timer? I know that is not something you could do without a mod or console command but would be neat all the same. Power all settlements with 1 generator bank lol
Guess I need to go start the vault 88 stuff so I can get that jungle gym genni. I'm guessing that's how you get the vault tec stuff u dont just automatically get it because u have the dlc.
How did you sink the purifiers so far intonthe ground and are they the small or large ones ? They look like the smaller ones. I can only get mime partially in the ground and it looks bad.
I basically just used the pillar glitch. It does take some finagling. It also depends on where you're putting them. Sometimes a rock or a board can prevent it from sinking very far. You've probably seen my pillar glitch video, but here's the link if you haven't: th-cam.com/video/M9OQAseCIcg/w-d-xo.html
Omg!!! I like Preston but I feel ya. I was level 62 & started over b/c all the factions were fighting each other & two because Preston kept me soooooo busy. There were sooooo many settlements & everybody & their momma was crying I need this & that. I will freakin' finish Sanctuary, Red Rocket & Abernathy Farm before tending to anyone else. I'm intentionally putting off the Tempine. Bluff quest. Not this time Preston but we're still cool. Lol
Yup, I use that method in this video: th-cam.com/video/1mXvZYiOK5A/w-d-xo.html. The only reason I don't do that all the time is because it's challenging to get them out once they've been sunken into the ground. In case I ever need to rework some wiring, I usually just hide them instead.
4 years later, I still play fallout 4 but i never watched any settlement building tips until now.. thank goodness i found this class

Holy Cow 1000+ hrs in FO4, never knew these "cheats" were possible. Good job!
Nice, someone caught the thumbnail reference! 😁
🇨🇨🇨🇨🇨🇴.
Hi Paul you are definitely my favorite youtuber
same here
Thanks guys. That means a lot given how many great youtubers there are out there. 😊
I was thinking about subscribing and hearing Yakkity Sax pushed me over. Nice touch! *chef's kiss*
Haha, nice. Welcome aboard!
Love he Benny Hill music when you sped up the video and the little skooled bus. Well done Paul, awesome lesson as usual!
Great way of using the wire glitch. I never thought of running all the conduits underground so that you didn't see them. But i made my more of a feature on my building. Hopefully i'll have it completed soon and then i can show you my full building.
Very cool. I'll be giving more details about the building contest soon. :)
I am screaming right now. I had 30 settlements looking like absolut trash because of all the crazy wiring! Why didn't I check out your channel 2 months ago?!?!?
Actually, here's an even better way: th-cam.com/video/YdaR7m4gct4/w-d-xo.html ;-)
I just started playing again.....lol had to enroll in your class again. I love your tips man
Great video dude. I'm definitely going to do this with my settlements. I like the fact you didn't cut the video on Spectacle Island and the music gave it a comical feel. You have a great channel and I hope it continues to grow.
Watch this soon as i got the notification even tho i'm supposed to sleep 😂
This helped me emensly, pardon my grammar. I plan to use this extensively in my next play through thank you so much
Glad it helped!
You've made my day at 3:00 in the morning! :D
Great vid man. And I am glad we finally got to take a ride on the skooled bus 😉
Right on Jack! 🚌
I can't unhear Matthew McConaughy when you get real into it, your videos are awesome. :D
Haha, thanks Phil. I get that a lot, along with Owen Wilson, Seth Green, and Jack Black. :D
you're funny, loving these videos. Got FO4 a while ago, but just hadn't gotten into it past the apocalypse, but now I just might open it back up.
Right on.
All your videos are making the part of the game I dislike the most a lot easier!!!
Once you master the tricks, it actually becomes really fun!
THAT WAS A GREAT VID. Thank you. Now i realy want to start building. I work at a power plant for 30 years now, and i was NOT going to have wires hanging all over the place. Patrik Hjorth has the right idea. We call them Sub stations and MCC's ( moter control centers )
Very cool. So you should know all about how to wire it up. =)
1:04 - Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has left them there.
I know there is a massive amount of knowledge inside these videos. But I don't wanna spoil the fun for myself. I think I will keep on using ton of wires and pylons and stuff for now on.
No worries, but at some point you might even want to go completely wireless! th-cam.com/video/YdaR7m4gct4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the kind words, and yes it is. Never had anything to say before haha :P
(if you disabled the wrong item, you can just "enable" to bring it back). course this is on pc... on xbox or ps, than no idea
19:46 there is a limit to the length of a wire if you're not using the glitch.
That tip about the lights earned a like from me
LOL !!! the Benny Hill music is hilarious. excellent video again
I like your choice of music for when you sped up your run across Spectal Island. Yakety Sax is an awesome and catchy tune.
😁
Sunken water pumps??!?!?!?!?! MIND BLOWN
love the Benny Hill theme while running across the island!
I know this is an old video but I recently started playing this game again and could not remember how to do this. Thanks.
Hello from 2024. Going to start a new game soon so wanted to brush up on your Tips & Tricks for Building 😀
Rock on!
Man I got more humor out of this one than some of your others. LOL
1 - Mama Murphy being the drink dealer. The humor in this for who don't know or haven't done the vault 88 line - the soda fountain is kind of a... drug... LOL!! So you have a user, being a dealer...full circle joke right there.
2 - "Don't want a bunch of water pumps messing up my clean river." Literally a river of rads. LOL
3 - Literally lost it on the Benny Hill music. i don't know why that song makes me laugh out loud every single time, but it really does.
HAHAHAHA man....so awesome. hahah
Nice! Someone who gets my esoteric humor. Goes over most people's heads. 🤪
Macready always gets the Silver Shroud outfit. Always.
I knew this trick, but it never occurred to me to apply it quite like this. I like the realism of generators and pylons, but practically adding and using power can lead to some really ugly configurations. So I think I'm going to start wiring my settlements like this instead. Cheers.
Tubsy man can always mock wire things
WOAH MIND BLOWN 💥
😂 GREAT VIDEO!! :)
I love the cover of the video. Very clever
😄
I've watched this video several times but I can't figure out how to get the wire to go invisible, it made so much sense when I watched it yesterday:(
Well in this particular version, you're really just running the wires underground.
Thank you.
You got it.
That's probably true for a PC, but I haven't figured out how to do that on an XBox One.
I love these videos they make me want to try harder on my settlements.
That's awesome. Glad you're enjoying the videos!
That is on of the coolest findings in F4 for now. Even in 2024
If you think so, you might like this even more: th-cam.com/video/YdaR7m4gct4/w-d-xo.html
Appreciate all the building advice. I'm confused on how there are different build-ables in your workshop menu than I but I have the dlcs. I think the last generator on my list is the windmill one
Even with the DLCs, you still need to complete their all mini-quests to unlock some items.
@@SkooledZone thank you keep up the great work!! 🤙
I don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but there is actually a welding mask you can get from certain BoS troopers (engineers). I don't think NPCs who wear it actually flip it down if they are doing a welding animation, but it looks pretty cool anyway.
10:33 I hate that piece of fence with a burning rage
Haven't watched the video yet, and bet I know exactly what fence.
Loving your lessons man, can't believe I bumped up to them only a few days ago. Are there even boundrys to your creativity?
Thanks for the kind words man. Glad you found the channel. :D
Using the double wire glitch (copyright SkooledZone) you never have to have wires ANYWHERE! Self powered items, powered switches, it's glorious. I hated wiring up, that single tip has improved my game experience ten fold.
Right on Ali! I actually renamed it the "WiFi Glitch" in the sequel video :) th-cam.com/video/O_eEipBr8as/w-d-xo.html
That's awesome. Too bad us console users can't do that.
@@SkooledZone Well at least on console your game tends to run smoother, so you've got that going for you. :)
I've just started another playthrough and am at 20th level. Still learning and experimenting with new building techniques, thanks to you. You're awesome! 🦾
man you just da best
✊
Playing fallout is cool but finding out how it all works is mind blowing at times.
You're a fracking genius.
Haha, thanks. I'm anti-fracking, but pro-genius. ;-)
When putting the vault tech reactor into the jungle gym in sanctuary like you have at the 3:35 mark, i have the wire going underground to the reactor the wire keeps disconnecting how do i keep it connected when putting it under ground?
Paul QUESTION: If you daisy chain 5 street lights together. Is it equal to 5V or does it simply use 1V continuously 5x?
-Thanks
Exactly, only with a mod. But if it works, let us know. :D
So chilled
Guess I need to go start the vault 88 stuff so I can get that jungle gym genni. I'm guessing that's how you get the vault tec stuff u dont just automatically get it because u have the dlc.
Indeed. You have to complete all the mini-quests to be able to build above ground.
Though it been awhile still have to come to class to reminder
How are the wires so long? Is it proportional to the size of the generator? Or because of the underground glitch?
great lesson bro thank you very much
I love these videos. You've made them your own lol
Everything I pillar the gen into the ground it disconnects my wire, any advice?
Have you considered using the pillar glitch to hide the Water Purifiers and generators in the hedge rows around Sanctuary?
I don't think I need any more generators after that massive reactor. ;-) But that's a good idea for people without the science perk.
How do you get the Super reactor outside of the vault?
When u finish the dlc's quest or kill overseer barstow
Lol
now this is MORE THEN FREAKEN AWESOME!!! THIS IS PURE MAGIC LOL thank you sooooo very much :)
Thanks man. And if you like that, you'll like this even better: th-cam.com/video/YdaR7m4gct4/w-d-xo.html
Where do u get those tiny wire conduit nobs at? iv only been able to find the regular larger ones
I think those come from the Vault-Tec DLC. You need to complete all the mini-missions to be able to build vault stuff above ground.
U can always put then electric conduits onto a rug and pillar glitch then into the ground to hide them use the one that go on the floor
