    ATRAC is a heck of a traction control system. On my wife's 2015 SR5 it is amazing how much additional traction you get out of the open differentials without losing momentum. It isn't as good as real lockers but it is the next best thing.

      Curious as to how this version isn't meant for "this type of terrain"...??? A-TRAC is very similar to my 2005 Mitsubishi Montero's Super-Select 4WD system, or even Range Rover's traction control system, and they both tackle this type of terrain very easily. The only problem I saw was lack of momentum and lack of mud terrain tires. Other than that, the vehicle and it's 4wd system did its job quite well.

    The limited 4runner has a center locking diff with ATRAC. Exact the same as what you have in the GX 460. half of the ppl commenting here think the limited is a soccer mom SUV. it's not! I just bought a 2018 4Runner Limited 4WD because I'm taking a long trip to the west later this year and there were too many places I wanted to see that were only accessible with a high clearance 4WD vehicle. Videos like this one and other research I did convinced me that the Limited is probably up to anything I'm willing to try off road. I'm making 2 changes to it to hopefully make it safer off road to minimize my risk of breaking down somewhere in the middle of nowhere and spending thousands on towing and repairs. I am putting on a set of 3 steel skid plates to protect the engine, transfer case and transmission, and having the running boards that were on the vehicle taken off and replaced with a set of powdered steel rock sliders. Metal Tech out of Oregon is the only company I could find that makes rock sliders that are designed to fit the Limited - most rock sliders for the 4Runner won't fit the Limited because it has a different shape in the rocker panel area and some wiring for the Xreas suspension.
      I had the vehicle checked out head to toe and there is no sign of any leaks in the Xreas suspension, so I'm not doing a lift or anything else to the suspension for now.

  • @willytrouble88
    @willytrouble88 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Based on the wheel spin, you certainly didn’t have ATRAC active for that first obstacle. When ATRAC is active, the free wheel won’t spin continuously. It will repeatedly pulse the brake on the free wheel and transfer power to the other wheel. I didn’t see any of that going on. If it was active, she would have pulled right up that hill without any problem at all. I suspect you had it in 4 LO and did not press the ATRAC button.

    The Limited is the best do it all 4runner because it has the center diff, which allows on the road AWD. In the other T4Rs you're either RWD or 4WD. If you're mostly on the highway and need a car that can handle snow and ice on the road you want AWD, not 4WD. Dollar for dollar an Off Road or Pro is more capable than a Limited because it has the rear locker, but any T4R is no slouch, and if this is primarily a mountain road car I'd rather have the center locker than the rear.
