Cutting off bottoms of shopping bags for fabric storage, love it. We use and reuse, saves money. Your craft room is looking good Margaret. You have your Boo Boo, I have my Morgan, a blue dog with a pink felt tongue that someone, won’t say who, yanked the tongue off of...have to fix that. Love seeing your kitty and dog looking so comfy in the new house as well.
You mentioned repurposing pieces of furniture. When my great-aunt's home was cleaned out, we, her family, were offered a chance to take something we wanted. I took a cabinet that my great-uncle had made probably 40-50 years ago. He stored all his camera items in it. My aunt stored her plants on top. It's now storing many of my dies, embossing folders, etc for my card making and scrapbooking. Wonderful memories.
One of our cats love to nap on my ironing board too. The fluid comment is so true, I'm always tweaking things in my craft room, and it's been in the same room for more than a decade. I've had my sewing machine and serger in so many arrangements, but I always go back to a L shape configuration, I find it more user friendly. I save sheets too, and buy them whenever I run across a good sale, they're great for backing quilts, drop cloths, dust covers, frost protection in the garden and I've even made curtains out of them.
Oooo... even more good sheet uses! Yes... it's definitely a fluid process and I like it that way! Changes also keep the brain active and more inspiration flows!
Hi Margaret!!! You have been busy and every thing you do just makes your craft room more wonderful and inviting!! I know you are ready to shut yourself up in there and spend lots of time crafting!! It just looks great!! I can't wait till you have your seating area and your lovely lamp arranged. Looking forward to your next update already. Take care.
Thank you, Barbara! And yes... that seating area is crucial. I need a comfortable place to sit and watch MY shows and/or just have some alone time. However, this is a great room but it's really tricky to place the furniture. I can't decide on the best set up!
Rewiring a lamp is super easy. You should have no problem doing it. Your craft room looks great. I used clear plastic shoe boxes for all of my fat quarters stacked so I can see each one. With the lids off they fit perfectly in my grandmother's antique dresser drawers.
I believe a craft room is always a work in progress like a garden. You're doing a fabulous job!!! The room looks good. 👏🏼👍🏼Your bear is something to always cherish. Thanks for taking us on your Craft Room Adventure! I gathered some good ideas for my craft items. I will say, while the Dreambox is an outlay of money, I could see spending that a little at a time with other solutions fairly easily. And like you said, even "cheap" furniture is expensive! I've just recently discovered your TH-cam videos and am having fun going back and watching all the older ones!
What a lovely compliment, Denise! Thank you! I have no regrets about buying this Dreambox!! It's really wonderful to have everything so nicely compact AND have the ability to close it up. And the sizing of each compartment was so well thought out.
Great progress. I so agree, a craft space should always be fluid. After all, we’re crafters and our minds are constantly thinking, changing and evolving so why shouldn’t our work space! Hahaha! The dog is sleeping in a cat bed! The cat's never liked it but Bentley has always loved it! (I bought it years ago when I was warming up a skittish stray that showed up at the house. He eventually became a member of the family and assumed typical cat behavior which is to sleep on everything BUT a cat bed! )
Watching this episode I feel I’m not alone in my adventures organizing my craft room. We moved from California to Richmond, Texas, three weeks ago, and I have rearranged my craft room four times. It seems that It is perfect now, but I’ll be sure when I have time to start some project there. I love how your craft room is looking, and I will copy some ideas from you.

I love your journey in creating this space. It looks fabulous. At least you can function in it now. But the other viewer was right, it will be ever-evolving. Thanks for bringing us along on the creative journey! :)
Wonderful ideas- Thank you. RE Serger cone pegs. I have the same issue. I easily lengthened the short pegs by slipping a large long straw over the short pegs cut to desired length. Think fast food straws .. if you can still get them. Great update.
Hi, Margaret! I have a similar thread rack where the pegs are not long enough to support the large spools of thread. I used larger straws that I’ve saved (yes, I save everything!) mostly from convenience stores. I found the ones for slushees work best.

It looks very sunny and happy. 😊 I hope yall are doing good. Texas is a great and friendly place to live. Od love to see what you have in all the cubbies in that shelving contraption. I love your idea of how you store your fabric in the way you store the fabric in the drawers Margaret. Adore your grandmother's lamp stand - the detail is beautiful. How wonderful to have it, especially if she was a crafter also. P.S. don't forget to tell us next time about why Buzzy likes her new location :-)
Oh, goodness! I forgot to share about Buzzy! Remember the wicker boxes with sheets in them? They used to be on top of the black cubbies on the cutting table. Buzzy LOVED sleeping on top of those! Since I put the TV up there and the boxes on top of the towers, the next highest point for napping is the ironing board. (And that determined the lint roller placement: in the Dreambox right next to the ironing board!)
Thank you, for sharing your space with us. We have been in our new house for 2 weeks now, and my craft room is full of boxes needing to be unpacked. We ordered a new computer desk, a 6 ft x 8 ft shelving unit, and a rolling drawer unit for my room, in white from Ikea. Won’t be delivered until the end of the month. So right now I’m in a holding pattern until that furniture arrives. I need to paint my book shelf white, thinking about trying Chalk Paint? So, soon I hope to be getting organized myself. Could take weeks 😂
If the tape doesn't hold up on the thread spools, might I suggest zip ties to hold the popsicle sticks..... no sticky residue. Beautiful craft space.... thank you for showing us.
Oh! I didn't think of that! Rubber bands crossed my mind but it seemed awkward to twist them on but zip ties would have been perfect and I have lots of those! Thanks, Connie!
If you do end up having to use the duct tape, you can always use goo gone to remove the adhesive. Also, regular white vinegar will remove any adhesive pretty easily. But, I've seen goo gone pick up some old and immovable stains.
Yes... Goo Gone is great but since it's oil based, I don't want to use it on wood. No telling how long that smell would last and it may discolor the wood pegs... not that the discoloring is a huge problem but I'm going to try to avoid it!
Things are coming together nicely. I ADORE the lamp and am eager to see what you choose to do with it. When you showed the credenza, my very first thought was “YARN!” Great minds. LOL And even though many people have offered ideas for extending your thread holders, I thought using floral wire or chenille wrapped around the peg to hold the popsicle stick might work, too. Happy crafting/organizing!
love the lamp I am seeing some gold or silver leaf. A fun and very fancy looking project. If you don't fancy the gold leaf I can recommend gilders paste. It wont clog up the lovely details like the paint will and you just apply with a soft cloth or better yet a finger covered in a nice latex glove. I use it all the time as I mostly create Jewelry.
💖👋🧶👋💖 We are 6 months into our new house and I am now going back organizing based on usage of the room now. I still haven't gotten my sewing things properly put away, everything is just shoved in drawers. I did get most of my paper crafting things pulled in a more logical place based on how much I use them and if I keep them out while working or put them off the desk.
@@sheepishlysharing It always takes me a year to get everything in more or less their final locations. It all hinges on how I end up using the room. I don't know that until I spend time in there and start using it. My last 2 houses have had odd spaces or low breaks for roof line. It took me longer to get those how I would use them. So far your space seems awfully functional as you go.
What a great room!!! You have really turned it into A wonderful craft room!!! I love it!!! Enjoy and I can't wait to see what you do next!! Please take care and stay safe and healthy 💕💗
Thanks, Karen! I'm kind of stuck right now until we can get that chest and the couch and chair up here. (That chest is going to be a factor in reworking my storage!)
I really enjoyed this video! I picked up quite a few ideas from you; the foam board as a divider, the storage of the old sheets ( I also save old sheets), the storage of the fabric and the boxes from Walmart. Thank you!. I love the space you have for the craft room. Many happy days ahead!
Hi Margaret! So happy to see your video! I have been checking daily for a new one and finally it's here! lol Your craft room is coming together so wonderfully! I love the room and how much natural light you have! I love your old lamp and it would look great painted white! I am sure we had something similar when I was a child. I don't recall the color but it seems to me it was very heavy looking! Don't know where you find the time to do as much as you do! I love that you golf! Keep organizing and please keep doing your videos as it means so much to me during this stay at home time! Thank you for sharing! Stay safe! :)
Thank you for the encouragement and kind words, Diane! I've always had a once-a-week goal for my videos but It's so hard!! My problem is the editing... it takes so much time PLUS I'm not doing much crafting just now so all that's left is my random vlogging! I never feel my life is interesting enough to be a random vlogger! Wait... let me clarify... I'm happy as a lark with my life but not sure it's entertaining enough to put on video! Ha!
Hey, Margret, great video! When you opened that beautiful window, I imagined a white blanket chest topped by a thick cushion in that print under it. Also, a painted or stained glass lampshade would look stunning on the floor lamp. Have a great week!
Great minds think alike, Steina!! I've been looking for a Tiffany style lampshade but 1) I'm so picky about the design and 2) I found one I LOVE but it only comes with the whole lamp and 3) they're expensive!! Well see.
Margaret, you've done an amazing job so far! My only concern would be, it it were my room, I mean, was that I'd get in a hurry and forget how close that stairwell opening was to the back of the chair when using the computer, and propel myself back down those stairs. I'm assuming you're much more coordinated than me, though, lol.
Hahaha! That's definitely a consideration! I'm not as close as I seem. I'll have to show you a better angle. I also noticed that when I was talking about the couch, it looked like a much smaller sitting area than it actually is. I think I need to study film making!!
It’s looking amazing I’ve loved watching it change. I wanted to thank you after listening to you talk about tumble drier wool balls I got some. They are awesome and makes everything softer. Stay safe
Thanks, Michelle! I love my dryer balls! I don't really feel a difference in the softness (though many people do) but I love how they help break everything up for faster drying time!
OMG Margaret, I just about fell out of my seat when you mentioned my name! Thank you, made me feel so special. I do like Mary's comment on the fluid part, I am always rearranging my craft room. Thank you for making my day. P.S. please tell us in your next video about why the cat chooses the ironing board. 🤔🐈

@@sheepishlysharing It may have actually turned out to be a perfect spot because he's next to the window and he can be in the sun (Cats usually love the sun). Except for the hair being on your ironing board. 🤣
Everything is coming together beautifully. Can't wait to see the couch & chair in there. I am sure you can rewire your lamp. I have done several & even installed a dimmer on one and I am not particularly clever with things like that.
Oooo.... thanks for the encouragement, Lyn! i just ordered the light kit but I forgot I don't know how to refinish iron so now I have to figure out how to get off the old paint and what new paint to buy! Ha!
Great job Margaret! What a wonderful space. I love the idea of using gift bags to keep vertical storage. On the piece where you have thread for the surger and the embroidery machine. What about using straws to extend those dowels. There are 'fat' straws that may just slip over the end of the dowel to extend it. Good luck and I look forward to see your progress. BTW what is the flooring in your craft room?
Thanks, Elizabeth! Yes, I read that straw trick but I don't have any straws but I have tons of Popsicle sticks soooo... problem solved! Ha! Oooo.... I love my floors. I have them in the whole house! It's a ceramic tile that looks like wood. I don't know the exact name off the top of my head but I can look it up if you need it.
Thanks for sharing all your tips of organizing. That's what I'm trying to do with all my crafty stuff. I dont have a extra room for it. So its challenging, but its going to be really nice when it's done. Or at least til the next idea. Lol
Margaret. An idea struck me as you were talking about painting that lovely antique lamp. I was thinking what you think about matching the paint to the red in that material you are going to use in the room & painting the lamp to match? Just a thought.
I considered that... and it's not off the table yet... but the wire comes up inside the stand and then has to be woven through the design at the top to reach the switch. I assume I could paint the plastic covering of the wire but I'm not sure if it would flake off!
So much work! But it's looking good! Painter's tape isn't made to stay stuck. Good idea for those thread rolls. What about just replacing those dowels with longer ones in the spots you need them? Unless they were glued in place, I guess you couldn't do that.
I place a plastic straw over the ones I need to be longer and cut it to the length that I need. I also use that method for adding my bobbins in the same thread color to the top of the spool of thread. Works wonderfully and I always have them together😊
The painter's tape stayed stuck in my Georgia house! I had to take it apart to move it. The other ones are staying stuck just fine but those 4 you saw gave way! Who knows?! But no, the dowels won't come out and I didn't want to alter anything permanently because I to tend to rearrange over the years as my needs change!
@@sheepishlysharing - Aww ok. Maybe it depends on the dryness of the air and tape. But glad it works for you. I only have steel straws so the straw trick wouldn't work for me either. 😊
Hi Margaret. It's been so long. Ive kept one eye you, The packing, move etc. And I couldn't be more tickled for you. All this beautiful light doing shutters, YUM. I ADORE ther cabinets for crafting, One day.. maybe. I wanted to encourage you in your grandmother's light. My dad, his brothers abs grandfather all electricians. hahaha Ohh I have to laugh, I've seen my dad when I was a child pull off the Cartoon version of every hair standing up & eyes bigger than saucers. Only to shake it off and continue as though nothing happened. My dad, he's one to never back away from trying something even at that risk. I say all this to assure you IDO NOT TOUCH ELECTRONIC WIRES OR ANT SUCH THING..... UNTIL! I had one of those floor lamps with five spindly bendy arms and lights attached to each for directional lighting in a living space. Well it was a recycle situation and living in this dark place I was joyful to brighten things up. Soon after I realized why it was recycled .. the rally heavy base was full of sand and had a hole in it. 🤦♀️ I sry it in the garage because I knew there was a way to use that lighting. Well I couldn't find a base and it sat and sat completely in the way. Then after much prayer for some semblance of 🤷♀️🤷♀️to do. Then light a figurative and literal light bulb went off. And I knew >
I love this story, Kathleen!! And you ARE brilliant! Very clever to use the furniture risers to solve the problem and I'm totally encouraged to rewire the lamp! If you can totally transform the standing lamp into a chandelier... I can handle this mini-project!
@@sheepishlysharing awe thank you Margaret😄 I was never doo scared and upon completion so exhilarated and honestly proud of myself. I have all the faith in you, absolutely!! OK im getting a lil waxy lol. But I think I know you well enough that this will mean so much. When your ready you'll know exactly how you want your lamp to look. Your heart will guide the way ENJOY! I just can't help maself! Hugs n Blessn's Sweety
My grandmother taught me to hand-sew when I was tiny but she was gone before I took an interest in machine sewing. I DID buy a kit but I need to paint the lamp first! When is that going to be??? Ha!
Do you think some large straws, like you get at McDonald’s, would be sturdy enough to hold those serger comes? Maybe the straws could fit right over the pegs... 🤞🏻
That's a great idea but the shutters swing out about 36." The table would have to be about the width of a card table which would really eat up the floor space. I'm still tossing around ideas but it seems that every time I think about moving something, it leads to another problem down the road. It's a tricky room!
Would the piece from the front hallway, the "extra storage" piece, fit under the window with the shutters? That way if you put your yarn in it, the sun wouldn't get to it to fade it and all that color might help with some inspiration when you first walk into the room.
Sadly, it's too tall, Tory! It's been really challenging trying to arrange this room. Every time I come up with an idea, something trips me up because of the odd shape. The good news is nothing is set in stone and the ideas are still flowing!
I stripped it and painted it and now we can't get the new cord through it which is quite perplexing. I haven't researched where to take it so it's sitting in my husband's office. Hmmm...
You know.. I thought that was going to be a problem but it doesn't slide on this floor! It's ceramic tile that mimics wood and it's even textured like real wood. The texture is going cross-wise where the pedal is so it keeps it from sliding! in addition, I could move it a bit to have it against the grout but I haven't had a need to!
I think that table came from SAN’s years ago. It’s just a folding table... you know those kind you use for tailgating, etc. My embroidery machine is a PE 800.
My sons laugh at me cause I have a container full of containers for organizing of course , as well as a box filled will flatten boxes and gift bags ... and yes they go shopping in them also . Until next time be safe .
Well, they would laugh at me, too, Cathy! You always need these things and I hate to hear organizers tell you to get rid of them because "if you need them, you know where to buy them." That's so wasteful!! Ah, well.
Margaret, are you aware of the Refashionista? She does amazing alterations of thrift store clothing. You might enjoy her. Just search Refashionista in Google. I’m sure she’ll pop up. You have done a lot of hard rethinking of your organization system. It looks great and I bet it’s a joy to play/work there.
Yes! She does! I have several I love to watch! I don't know if I'll ever be that good at it because it requires one to be good at spacial relation and I am NOT but it's a fun challenge all the same!
Oh, goodness! I forgot to share about Buzzy! (Cozy was the calico who like to sleep on the guest bed but you get extra points for remembering a cat name!) Remember the wicker boxes with sheets in them? They used to be on top of the black cubbies on the cutting table. Buzzy LOVED sleeping on top of those! I used Mimi G's instructions and didn't put anything. For the most part, those of us NOT in the medical field don't need the added layer but if we feel we want one, we add a coffee filter btw the mask and our face. The more layers you have, the harder it is to breathe. If you keep pulling it away from your face to get a breath, it's not doing you any good. SOMETHING is better than nothing.

@@sheepishlysharing Also you can get plastic tubing at home depot and slot it over. no fixtures are needed for that method
It’s shaping up quite nicely. Love watching the progress.
Thanks, Diane! Putting that chest up here is going to make me rework the yarn storage but I'm quite enjoying this process!
Wire... a great idea! Why didn't I think of that?! I had read about the straw idea but I didn't have straws and I had lots of Popsicle sticks!
Try using velcro cable ties to hold your popsicle sticks. Or zip ties.
It's exciting to see what you come up with. Good job.
Thanks, Lynne! It ever-changing!
love the lamp I am seeing some gold or silver leaf.
💖👋🧶👋💖
We are 6 months into our new house and I am now going back organizing based on usage of the room now. I still haven't gotten my sewing things properly put away, everything is just shoved in drawers. I did get most of my paper crafting things pulled in a more logical place based on how much I use them and if I keep them out while working or put them off the desk.
It is such a process! I'm really struggling with furniture placement in my oddly shaped room!
Glad it was helpful, Patricia! Some of my favorite parts are the things I use that are low-cost or free!
It's really taking shape.
Slowly but surely, Penny!
Well see.
Love your craft room, It is awesome. You are so creative.
Thank you, Helen! It's certainly a big undertaking!
It's really coming along. One day I'll be able to restart the work on my crafting room.
Life has a way of throwing us curve balls so some things have to take a back seat for a while. Craft room time will come again, Linda!
I had that same Disney book set (in your cupboard) when I was growing up! I think one of my sisters has them now.
I LOVED those books as a child and it's why I still have them!
Margaret Olander Oh, I'd say you have plenty enough on your plate, lol.
Love the evolution... its a great eternal work in progress. 😉
Hahaha! It IS an eternal work in progress!!
@@sheepishlysharing It may have actually turned out to be a perfect spot because he's next to the window and he can be in the sun (Cats usually love the sun). Except for the hair being on your ironing board. 🤣
Love it! Yarn would be beautiful in that credenza!!
And it would be protected from dust! Now... how are we going to get that huge heavy thing up those stairs?! Ha!
Loving this series!
Not sure it will ever end! Yikes!
I have that same set of children’s books in my book closet 😂 😂 😂
Yes, my parents have that old Disney set as well.
Ha!
Just an idea but you could use an elastic band to secure the lolly stick.
Yes! Another great idea, Lynn!
Rewiring a lamp is very easy.. I have rewired several or just made a lamp out of something that wasn't originally a lamp.
That's what I keep hearing so I'll give it a go!
Lol
Hahaha! That is so true!! It's an on-going process!!
With the couch problem, see if you have room on the legs to cut them down or even take them off.
Well, that's an idea! While this is a great room... it's odd shape makes it tough to place my existing furniture!
Beautifully amazing!
Well, thank you, Cindy! I'm thinking it's more practical than beautiful at this point but we're getting there!
Margaret I really love your owl. So glad your gonna leave him there. Love this video. And also hi from Lake Buchanan Tx
Hello, Neighbor! (Sort of!) Yes... the owl probably needs to have a name if he's going to hang out with us in the craft room!
If tape won't keep sticks on oegs/spindles; try rubber bands
Yes, I read that straw trick but I don't have any straws but I have tons of Popsicle sticks soooo... problem solved! Ha!
@@sheepishlysharing - Aww ok. Maybe it depends on the dryness of the air and tape. But glad it works for you. I only have steel straws so the straw trick wouldn't work for me either. 😊
Lol! I am a huge fan of "use what ya got"! Way to be innovative, dear!
And im excited to watch for the beautiful results of( would it be a 3rd gen heirloom) come to life in alll it's new glory and old heart ! I know it was my grandmother (the non seamstress, how funny is that) that sat me down a few basics and let me go encouraging me to enjoy the process while delving out a lil instruction along the way. You did say it was she that tought you correct.. regardless it will be as though she's there to great you each day you walk into that special place to allow your creative genius to "BE" ... OK im getting a lil waxy lol. But I think I know you well enough that this will mean so much. When your ready you'll know exactly how you want your lamp to look. Your heart will guide the way ENJOY! It's just a wire( use plenty of electrical tape🤣 extra piece of mind if you need to splice a Cpl wires. Ohh, there are kits ! )
Ok I'll🤐it it's early and I'm really excited for you.
I just can't help maself!
Hugs n Blessn's Sweety
My grandmother taught me to hand-sew when I was tiny but she was gone before I took an interest in machine sewing. I DID buy a kit but I need to paint the lamp first! When is that going to be??? Ha!
@@sheepishlysharing I love that memory. Hand sewing WOW! ENJOY the process 💞
using rubber bands to hold the popsicle sticks to the pegs will work better than tape.
Do you think some large straws, like you get at McDonald’s, would be sturdy enough to hold those serger comes? Maybe the straws could fit right over the pegs... 🤞🏻
Yes, I read that straw trick but I don't have any straws but I have tons of Popsicle sticks soooo... problem solved! Ha!
Heh ! Try putting a sofa table behind the sofa and the wall under the window, allowing you to open the shutters.
That's a great idea but the shutters swing out about 36." The table would have to be about the width of a card table which would really eat up the floor space. I'm still tossing around ideas but it seems that every time I think about moving something, it leads to another problem down the road. It's a tricky room!
Keep up the Great job , love watching you .Keep safe 😇🙏
Thank you! You too!
I just love your Videos they are so very good keep it up
Glad you like them!
Margaret Olander I do I love them
If the scotch tape doesn't work try using small rubber bands to hold them together.
Now that's a good idea, Bonnie!
Really enjoyed it! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it, Betty Jo!
Did you ever redo your grandmother's lamp? I have a similar one and would love to see what you did.
I stripped it and painted it and now we can't get the new cord through it which is quite perplexing. I haven't researched where to take it so it's sitting in my husband's office. Hmmm...
Thanks 💕I followed Mimigstyle for making the mask too!!! I thought you put something inside yours ! 😂
Here is an easy one for you. How do you keep your sewing machine foot pedal from sliding away?
Where did you get the table for your machine embroidery machine? Thank you as I also have the machine embroidery machine, Brother Innovis 5000
I think that table came from SAN’s years ago. It’s just a folding table... you know those kind you use for tailgating, etc. My embroidery machine is a PE 800.
Oh! I like the foam core idea! Hmm, would straws extend your thread rack?
YES... I thought straws were a great idea but I didn't have any and I have tons of Popsicle sticks! Ha!
Use straws to lengthen those thread holders
Yes, I read that straw trick but I don't have any straws but I have tons of Popsicle sticks soooo... problem solved! Ha!
Lovely!
Thanks, Nancy!
Margaret Olander you’re welcome! 😃
Ah, well.
Hello what did you do with the crate your dream box came in
I gave it to my neighbor who does woodworking.
WOW, L😲😲K at all that. R 😲😲M. ❣️. I am SO jealous 😍😍😍😍
Hahaha! That's the happiest, most colorful comment ever! Thanks, Faith!
Why is Cozy camping 🏕 out on the ironing board?
Oh, goodness! I forgot to share about Buzzy! (Cozy was the calico who like to sleep on the guest bed but you get extra points for remembering a cat name!) Remember the wicker boxes with sheets in them? They used to be on top of the black cubbies on the cutting table. Buzzy LOVED sleeping on top of those! Since I put the TV up there and the boxes on top of the towers, the next highest point for napping is the ironing board. (And that determined the lint roller placement: in the Dreambox right next to the ironing board!)
what did you put inside the mask? I need to make more !
Keep up the good work. It’s getting there. What a spacious craft room. I didn’t realize you do so many crafts!!! 💥
Thanks for the encouragement, Anita!
Man I bit your Husband just loves this Do you Put him to work LOL
Tucker has his office and I have my room up here so we can each have our space!
Can I just abandon my craft mess and move in with you?! lol
Oh no, Peggy! You must Bring your craft mess if you move in with me! Ha!
Try zip ties instead of scotch tape ...
Do away with the sofa being there altogether. Just put a work table there with “all” your sewing machines on it.
Oh goodness, no! I need the sitting area so I can have a place to watch MY shows and when I need alone time. Very important!!
