    I’m disabled and there is no way I can afford this, but I watched the entire video for the exact reason u said! What can I make that works for me. I have a tall cabinet and I’m looking at ways to tweak it to make it have more vertical storage. Thank u for this. I love to see fellow crafters thinking outside the box and inspiring us to do the same. My crafting epoxy work is my physical therapy and my doctors have seen my improvement because of it. Praise God. Thank u again. Wonderful video !!

      @@sheepishlysharing It does look wonderful. I liked your thoughts about picking the containers FIRST. Thank you. That box is just so deep when it is closed up...... but YOU got me THINKING and that is what it is all about. There was one about a sewing box and she had 2 fold down tables , one on each side of the middle, which gave a bigger space to work at. HMMM. Good luck I will send you a picture when it is all done....in the future sometime. Thank you again and I am subscribing to you and will stay tuned.

    I think your Dream Box is awesome and if someone can’t enjoy watching you get your Dream Room, no matter the cost, they are being.... maybe I should stop there. Lol. We all have different lifestyles and we all can teach someone something along the way. I can’t afford one myself, but I organize the way that I can and it’s good enough for me. I started out putting all my yarn in cardboard boxes on their sides. Turned them in to shelves. Lol. It suited its purpose and I was proud of myself. You make due with what God has blessed you with. 😄I hear ya. My main craft area is a corner of the basement with grandma's old folding card table and a "sewing table" made from a spare door laid across 2 old 2-drawer filing cabinets. Hubby's old bookcase and chest of drawers form a wall of sorts perpendicular to the sewing table. A fancy storage system like Craftbox would be a dream, but we're in a small house with a scrounger budget 😄

    Thank you for this video. I have been looking at this for a while. My daughter-in-love wanted her dad to build her one (he is a master carpenter) he looked at it, looked at the price and said "No way. There is no possible way I can build that for $3000." He does this for a living. That was my first look at it. We are retiring and moving to a new house (with a craft room for me and a wood shop for my husband who makes cutting boards and charcuterie boards) and I am seriously looking into it. This video really helped me with a lot of questions that I had about the practicality of it.

      This is good insight. My dad was a carpenter & electrician, so I grew up around it. And I’ve been trying to figure out how to make my own, or take an IKEA wardrobe and put in my own drawers/ shelves… and yeah it seems like DIY would cost more then $2500-3K

      I need a sit down with your daughter in law's dad. A master carpenter? And he can't see being able to build this for under $3000? I see about 6 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood for all the frame parts, 1/2 inch plywood for the back, several things can be used for the thin shelves (1/8-1/4 inch thick). That's $500-600. Those acrylic containers is the expensive part and good containers can be bought cheap.

    It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

    Loved your ideas in the video. A couple years ago I presented my husband with a blueprint I had drawn for a platform upon which a blow-up mattress could be placed to extend the size of my bed. When my son and his family visit, they stay in my bedroom but there was not enough sleeping room for the three of them.. I included several "supporting" boards to be placed on the bottom of the platform. When he told me that it didn't need so much support, I told him that in order to store the platform between visits, it would need to stand up against the wall. I intended to use it for yarn storage. I now have a fantastic storage system that doubles as a bed when needed. I of course make sure I keep it well stocked so it doesn't go to waste!

Before, I had a lot of different pieces that I was using to organizing my crafts with a path around the room and now everything is in 1 place as it holds so much that I'm still amazed. I don’t see myself closing up the box very often, but the alternative ideas were really helpful! I have an entire 20’ wall I can utilize. I am also a builder. I can really appreciate the construction behind this, but if I am going to invest the money and time, I want to use lumber and not particle board. I love the idea of buying the containers first and building around that! Great video! Thanks!

    • @tabandken8562
      @tabandken8562 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm hoping to build a few of these from scratch as well, but I'll use good 3/4 inch plywood. While it's not true lumber, it's better than what comes with this. Total cost would be about $600 not including containers. The thing is, there is so much assembly involved with this version, I'm surprise more people don't just build from scratch. They basically are anyway.

    • @cynvision
      @cynvision ปีที่แล้ว

      Company compares it to cabinet material, so it will exist best in a controlled environment, which stays dry, and not moving much. It's not much different material than used in imported bookshelves from Italy you get at Target. I'd be in on a smaller version built for people who move around where they beef up the materials. In a few ways the particle board for this 72" height weighs a ton. I know. I move those bookshelves in a warehouse.

    • @cynvision
      @cynvision ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it reads that I'm a bit biased against particle board as a support structure in furniture. I have some Elfa particle board vinyl laminate shelves that do fine when I move, but the rails and brackets are epoxy coated metal. I bought into their system as my alternative to other options around ten years ago. Still spent major money on it but I don't worry about the moisture getting to things quite so badly. And it all comes apart to go carefully on a moving van.

    Thanks for letting crafters know they have options. After looking at the Scrapbox longingly for so long, but not feeling like I could justify the expense for my hobby, I came up with an alternative. I saved up and purchased the clear bins from the Original Scrapbox. I put them on 2 bookcases from Wal-Mart. My husband cut some extra shelves and I bought the pegs for them at the hardware store. I get all the storage at a fraction of the price. I can't believe how much stuff fits in those bins!

    Hugs for sharing this video and resources! I'm in the process of determining the best storage solutions for my multi-purpose arts/craft/tools/mudroom/etc. Small space but tons of stuff. Years ago I purchased 4 Five-drawer Craftsman Tool Chests (27x26x14) with wheels, which work wonderfully to house and keep genres organized. They still look brand new and have served me well. Now looking for efficient/clean storage ideas on how to add more storage atop them. Have learned that my "storage" must be tidy, efficient, visually appealing and easy to use. As well as my intentions are to keep open surface top areas clean, they easily become a breeding ground for clutter/stacking, which depletes creativity, so looking for resolve sooner than later. Like I told you before I got mine as a clearance item right after they introduced the light box on the top. I really don't remember how much I paid because I also bought the older version of the sewing box too. Another consideration is space. The big craft box takes up a whole wall in a room. A person really needs a dedicated craft room if they are going to keep it open all the time. Mine does stay open at all times. My husband and I share office space with two desks set in the center. The sewing box is behind him and the big craft box is behind me. We also have a loveseat and built in book cases flanking the double window. There is also a generous sized closet (yarn storage). It's wall to wall furniture. My non-crafting daughter says it makes her claustrophobic.. LOL!! I said it's cozy and comfortable for me.

    Thank you for this video. I've been working on my sewing/craft room. I'm close to finishing it like I designed, but I'm rethinking after watching your video and trying to use it. I have 2 IKEA bookshelves that I have designed to lay on their side instead of upright. I have a cutting table right in the middle of the room, and the aisles are narrow. I think this craft room will be a work in progress for now. Part of my problem has been storage of like things, like stencils, stamps, dies and sewing notions. My husband has been very understanding and has helped me with heavy items. Now, I will go back to Illustrator to make things more efficient. Thank you, for all your ideas and places to look for more suggestions!

    This was a GREAT video! I'm not really sure why it just now appeared for me; but it's very helpful. Thank you for sharing! I've been toying with the idea of a dream box and wondering if it might actually fit inside a bare closet that I have, and then open into the room as needed. After watching your video, I've measured and re-measured; and ultimately, I think it would fit inside the empty closet (which no longer has the sliding doors). I just wouldn't be able to fully open it to flat. I think it would still work; so it's back on my "wish" list for my craft room. I sew occasionally, use my Cricut maker often, have a passion for Young Living essential oils, and love to oil paint. I know - jack of all trades and master of none. Ha! However, I can see how this Dream box could help me all around and how the time and labor spent on trying to create my own wouldn't be as cost effective. Thank you again!

It has helped a lot in keeping my most used small items and my Cricut machine which fits perfectly. My vinyl is stored in an over the door hanger and my yarns and fabric are in cubes that line one wall under the window. So yes, creators who cannot afford, or it is not practical for hobbiest like me, be creative.

    Well stated! The DreamBox isn’t for everyone. I have it, and I felt the same way about the cost. You did an amazing job of breaking it down to make sense. The fact that it’s made in the USA alone will raise the price- people are too used to the cheap made in China prices, many have forgotten (or maybe never experienced) furniture and items being made here.
    I had a craft room that I redid and added to every year, trying to make it work. I finally caved and did the Black Friday sale for the DreamBox and Dreamcart, and have zero regrets. The room is more open, which is what I needed. To do it again, I may have skipped the Dream cart and done the sewing station, but it’s still ok!

    Margaret, what a wonderful group of ideas! I especially liked the one in which the lady used 4 bookcases. They remind me of some that Walmart carries. I would suggest that during the assembly if the bookcases that people replace the back covers with 1/4 inch thick plywood, stained, or painted to match the finish of the bookcases. They will be much sturdier over the years of use. Also, use screws to attach the new backs to the bookcases, after drilling pilot holes first. I have 2 of the bookcases made under the "Better Homes & Gardens" brand label at Walmart, and they've been in fulltime use in my great room for 7+ years now. The bottom 3 shelfs have been used to hold some 30ilbs+ of books, each for the duration of having them. So I'd happily recommend them to anyone interested in building such a cabinet system themselves. I'm seriously thinking about doing so within the next year.

      @@sheepishlysharing Hi Margaret, Please don't be sorry. I'm doing OK...I have good days and weepy days. It's my new now and I have a new normal. I've been having some grief therapy which has helped a lot. I do appreciate all your research and work on this video. It was extremely helpful in so many ways but it especially helped me to know what I need to look for in my set up...when it happens.

    Great video... Not able to purchase such a beautiful piece of furniture but I did make my crafting storage using IKEA cube shelves and inserts to make the cubes into smaller spaces/shelves and added in some drawers as well... Love it for my hobby crafts... I LOVE the clear bins, too. Thank you for sharing and also enjoyed seeing the different options. Take care.

    I love the dream box but after watching your video, I realized it wouldn't work for me. I'm glad you showed it to us. Small apartment, moving around about every other year so the hubby and I decided on functional cube/bin furniture to "hide" all the extra yarn and I still have my original set up for "color inspiration". Love your videos!

    Thank you! I already have my DreamBox, but it never hurts to hear some more points of view.. I find that when I’m trying to avoid spending the big bucks. ( what that would be once I bought the dream box, I have no idea?) I to did not have a perfect delivery, but was most pleased about all of my dealings with these folks. I’m impressed that you thought to repurpose the crate. Great idea. Thanks.

      Don't you love this Dreambox, Brooke?! It's absolutely ingeniously designed. I recently did a tour through the whole thing and I realized thru the editing process that there is absolutely NOTHING that I wish I could change because I CAN change it to fit my needs! Awesome product.

    I plan on buying this for our new home. But my husband is a woodworker and will likely desire to build me one. The links and your IG feed will surly help as will the 100$ off if we go this route. However some options look like possible viable options. Love your honesty. This maybe too much for our budget since we are buying a new home it will be ready on June 1st. I just moved to Texas so thanks very much for your ideas and inspiration and so many ideas to look around at EVERYTHING, first.

      I confess, I've been saving for a while for this thing specifically FOR our new home. I had set up a perfectly workable craft room with inexpensive or FREE things in the old house and certainly could have used them all here but I had a plan!! Ha! Bottom line: this furniture is icing on the cake, not meat and potatoes so only you can decide if it's right for your new space!

    Great review! I’m blessed that my craft/work space is in our finished basement so I have space!! Hallelujah! Years ago I bought clear plastic drawers on wheels which can be tucked under my sewing table...which was our old dining table in the butcher block style!! Solid and sturdy! I have Rubbermaid or Sterelite shelves which hold big and smaller clear boxes of fabric and yarn (we get the occasional cricket so these boxes with lids are essential!) My desk is a 6’ white work table and I use baskets for various storage. And there’s more but this works great for my needs, which is the point! The dream box wouldn’t work for me because of the height, the size of shelves and my specific needs BUT I’d agree it’s worth its price and is beautiful!!

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That IS the point, Ellen!! Not only do you get it but you're the master!! I love what you described! (And if you saw some of my past craft room tours you'll see I implemented some of the same handy ideas! Great minds think alike!) 👍

    Margaret, I just loved your review!! I love the honesty of it!!!! I bought the Dream Box and two Dream Carts. The Dream Carts are much more affordable. They have massive workspace, are very portable, have the large and medium size bins and would be an excellent option for those who are looking to build space with a more limited budget. I appreciated your honest review! I wish I had seen it before I bought the Dream Box but you published it about the time I finally hit the "buy" button. Honestly, I'm not sure it would have changed my decision to buy but it might have helped. :) I like your creative thinking of options for the Dream Box! You are amazing!!!

      Thank you, Mary! I adore my Dream Box and have no regrets whatsoever! Actually, it wasn't ME who had all the good ideas for alternatives as there are some very smart people out there who's ideas I shared! I only threw in a tip or two here and there. As my mother used to say: Where there's a will, there's a way!

    Thanks, great review. I’m so happy to hear that the dream box is worth the cost. I did see that you had saved some storage solutions on Pinterest-I was saving the same ones! Lol!
    My issue for my craft room is that I’m in an upstairs bedroom of a 1 1/2 story house. That means I have slanted walls! Ugh! And of course, the two walls that are not are the window wall and the entrance door wall. So my dream is to do something around the perimeter of the room. I was thinking the book cases joined and pot on castors would be great in a shorter version. Can’t wait to watch her video.
    Thanks again for all the great suggestions. I’ll be sure to check out your links.
    Enjoy your new, well organized creative space.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, yes... slanted walls. Erin had those slanted walls in her last house and she lined one wall with cubbies which worked very well. But your idea of casters for closing makes the space more versatile. Close it up and shove it in a corner to give you room for other purposes when needed! Hmmm....

    It’s beautiful! I couldn’t buy it or use it or have room for it, but I’m happy for you! If that viewer didn’t want or need it, watching your video doesn’t cost her anything, lol. It gives your imagination ideas on what to do and gives a boost to your own creativity. Silly person! No one said she had to buy one. Ugh! I love watching your videos. I don’t have room in my tiny apartment for all you have, but I don’t do all the crafts you do, either. I have yarn! Lol! And I have shelving I bought and put together for it along part of one wall. Whatever works, and I got the idea for these online in different TH-cam videos! 😀 GLEAN ideas from others’ ideas! It’s all good! Enjoy your new craftroom, my friend; it’s beautiful! ❤️

      Thanks, Nancy, and you're so right about that person with the closed-minded attitude. I don't care if she watches my videos but if that's the attitude she takes on ALL TH-cam videos, she's surely missing out on some great ideas! Imagination leads to creative problem-solving and Inspiration fuels imagination!

    Thank you for information. I'm a crafter sometimes. Mostly a seamstress. So this Dream Closet can be used by me but It would only hold my supplies. It isn't enough space for all the fabric I have! I have four sewing machines that so I need a room. I have my back bedroom as the sewing room. yes you should look at the ideas even if they are out of your price range. I have tweaked ideas to what can work for me storing my sewing supplies. Yes. I love the clear bins to see what is inside. I prefer to have a lid on the boxes and found some on Amazon that have a hinged top. They work for me! I consider paying the price as an investment in my work so I can do my work better and more efficiently. You have to spend money to make money! Sometimes!!

      @sheepishlysharing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, Valerie... for the most part, I'm quite the penny pincher! Just because you have the money doesn't mean you shouldn't be frugal! It's paid off because we've built our saving slowly but surely by being frugal and now we're enjoying it in retirement! And what I've really learned thru all of that is that sometimes, the solutions you create are BETTER than those you can buy in a store! I still have and USE a lot of my repurposed stuff!!

    I don't believe the price is bad for what you get. However it is made from particle board which makes it very heavy and while it will last a good little while, like Ikea furniture (because it is built the same) it will fall apart. I love the idea of having all of my stuff in one place and that is why my husband is designing one for my specific needs based on the Workbox 3.0 only with real wood. It will be much cheaper and I think nicer. But I do love your videos.
