    I have to admire anybody who is organised enough with their time to be able to keep a project journal, but totally enjoyed all the various aspects you examined here. It certainly will be extremely helpful to many of your viewers. I do have a hard-covered notebook into which anything crafting related may be jotted down, probably not what one would call a crafting journal, but does the trick for me. I love the idea of creating one's own and decorating it inside.

      Customization is the key even if it's not organized at all, if you have a special place where you corral all the information, then it's a working journal! Right?!

    I was thinking I had not seen you in a while, hoping you are well. This topic is something I was thinking about. As a fairly new knitter(5 years), I think this would be especially good for record keeping. I’ve been knitting baby sweaters, and my favorite and locally available yarn has vanished, so I had to go 👀 for a new source. Thanks for helping me grow as a knitter and crafter in general. Hope to see you soon!

    I can relate to buying project books and barely making it through the first 4 pages. And, I never took into consideration that I should customize pages to my needs. Putting a manual together with your help is going to be so fun. Can’t wait until the next video. Thank you so much for all the hard work and for sharing it with us. You are the best.

    Margaret, I don't know how I missed this video when you put it up. BUT. I have recently bought a stack of notebooks which are sitting here on my desk, waiting to be put to use. Some of them I like and some of them I don't like. I just wish I would have watched this video before I bought all these notebooks. Now, I want to put them to use and this video has helped me decide what I want in the note books and what I don't want. Thank you for all the references, printables and help. I really appreciate it and it's been very informative and helpful.

    Something I do with a lot of my bound craft books to make them easier to use is that I take it to a large office supply store and have them cut the binding of and convert it into a spiral bound book... Makes it easier open it to a page and it will remain in the open position... you might even be able copy some of the pages you'd like duplicated in the book that don't have enough for your purposes... (I've not tried this but is still a good idea and you might find someone who will accommodate your ideas...)

    Hi Margaret, great ideas for project records. I have notes on machine embroidery, and keep notes on my sock machines, but not any for knitting or crochet. We also moved to Texas in 2020 and made 7 trips from Arizona in 2021 to do it. I still have boxes!! We were from Houston but had been in Arizona for the last 10 years. Decided to move back to Texas to be near the kids, who are in Dallas. We are in Greenville, now. I've culled lots of craft stuff and hope to concentrate on just a few. I still make Addi hats for the homeless (That's where I found you.) and got out my flatbed knitting machines as well as my circular sock knitting machines. Hope to get to sewing also. Always enjoy your videos!

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words, Glenda, and be patient with those boxes! I culled SO MUCH EVERYTHING when we moved here in 2020 and wouldn't you know that I'm soon scheduling a pickup for more donations! Life is fluid and things will always be changing... I just have to make myself stay on top of the clutter. I bought a used flatbed several years back but I ended up having problems with it and never got anywhere. It was donated back in Georgia. I toy with the idea of getting another every now and then but usually decide I have too many other gadgets to entertain myself now!

    Can’t wait to see your journal pages. I love graphics design (not exceptionally good just enjoy making things.
    This week I made a craft storage journal, well my office suite pro locked up. So frustrating! So paying $29 isn’t sounding too bad right now!

      You're so welcome, Mich! Btw, what costs $29? Google Drive is free. All you need is a free google account. Works very well and they're adding new features all the time! My daughter works for PWC (Big 4 accounting firm) and that's all they use these days! See links in description box for the pages and have fun!

    Looking at this before work, but I'm eager to get home later today to peruse your link. Two summers ago I made my own project binder after weeks of looking at premade ones. I have a cute 3 ring binder and divider tabs, found project pages, inventory sheets (for needles; like you I'm not interested in inventorying my stash), a place for reference material, family measurements, etc. I also included a manila envelope to tuck in business cards from yarn dyers and other yarn related items I may want to refer to later. I'm not really keen on the project sheets, so I'll be looking forward to looking at the ones you so generously shared with us.

      @@sheepishlysharing I did avail myself of some of your links! Especially the ones for socks and the one that explains ease. The project page links are actually ones I did peruse when making my own binder. They are good and ultimately, I think I will create my own as I see my own note taking and documenting style taking place as I use them.

    Great video, lots of good ideas! I used to keep track of project in a notebook but I was always forgetting to record some detail or another about the yarn or the pattern. This year I ordered a project journal from Amazon (pretty much sight unseen) and luckily it works! I won't forget to record things because it has all the prompts to fill out and places for notes and pictures. Now that I am retired and crochet more, I have more to keep track of. What size hook did I use for that hat? It's easier to find this info in my new journal. Your customization pages sound good, I'll have to lookthose over for the futue! Thanks again. Love your videos. They are unique!

    I craft, sew and crochet items to put in my booth at craf shows. I need to keep up it hat sold better at which craft show. What I need to make more of for the next one. Ideas I have seen in pinterest or on TH-cam and ith my ideas to change them up so they aren't "copied". What supplies I need for orders that I have gotten at shows.
    Do they make completely blank journals? It would probably be best if plan one out to fit " me" instead of buying one that fits another person.
    Your video is very helpful.
    Tfs

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A completely blank journal? Would that be just a notebook or a binder? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding your question. Alternatively, you may benefit from an inventory spreadsheet for each craft show. (This is how businesses track what sells in a particular demographic.) You list each item, cost to produce (supply cost + time) and the price. As it sells, you mark it off and you then have a complete record everything you need to know for that particular craft show INCLUDING an exact record of income for tax purposes. Here: www.pinterest.com/pin/262123640796678605/ I just did a search for "Craft Show Inventory Template" and that's what came up. Personally, I think a digital version of this is much more practical than filling them in by hand each time PLUS you can simply print the pages and hand them over to your accountant at tax time.

      @@sheepishlysharingyes, a sturdy notebook is what I am getting and will put a composition notebook in for every thing I need to record. I will decorate the outside with pics of some of my best sellers. And I will have a few folders for special printouts that might be useful and can make copies as I need them. It will be a WIP for sure, but it won't have any wasted sections like a purchased planner would. Thank you for opening my eyes.
