If you are a motovlogger check out the MOVO ACM400. amzn.to/42QJabK I believe it's a moto-specific version of the MV-M101 with dual mic clips & and extended TRS cable.
I wonder if it is a little bit more sensitive than DJI’s own lav mic. I have recently bought and installed the DJI 3.5mm mic adapter on my OA3 with their lav mic in my helmet. The audio, although excellent, doesn’t quite pick up both my voice and motorcycle exhaust in equal measure, which my old system of Saramonic 3.5mm adapter and Hama Notebook mic did.
I use this on a transmitter for recording/amplifying audience questions. If you give people an SM58 type mic they invariably hold it badly because the size makes them think intuitively that a hefty mic has good pickup (wrong). This tiny mic lets them hold it closer, and it also weighs little.
I purchased two MV-101's, two Rode XVLR's, and plugged them into the Zoom F3. WOW! Excellent stereo sound in a compact package. Also great as an indoor stereo mic setup.
I'm testing it right now but I think this could easily boomed sorta like a shotgun mic when you do top-down views of things and you want something better than a lav mic but shotgun mics aren't easy to place in your location, ie a backpack review top-down.@@WayneRECs
back in the days street interviews were much different, and handheld style mic wireless systems aren’t as cheap/versatile and people would just wrap the lav around the body pack and clip it on the 3.5mm jack portion of the lav as a “handheld mic”, this was actually a solution to that unsightly bodypack look
Thank you! I stumbled across this video as I was looking at small discrete microphones for impromptu interviews! This looks clean and professional without being weird or intrusive. I have added this tool my audio kit now!✊🏾👊🏾✊🏾

Gooseneck mics are great for hiding and getting a narrative dialogue. Also in South Korea reporters often just held up a wireless pack with the lav mic twisted around the antenna instead of a proper handheld for decades.
🤔 your previous video stated you were sending back your DJI Mic2… but you have this MOVO mic connected to the Mic2 - did you change your mind? Btw… I have the Mic2 and find sound from single Mic2 to Pocket 3 is good and records well… but I’m struggling with getting consistent audio when connecting the receiver to my RodeCasterPro v1 via a Rode XLR to 3.5mm dongle… sound is very muffled (hint: any chance of a video … if you still have your Mic2 that is!) Went to order the MOVO and yup - you did your job and they are now out of stock 😢… closest to it is the MOVO motorcycle mic but it’s a wired one and doesn’t look like the bendy stick part can be disconnected to use with the Mic2 Anyway, enjoy your vids 👍🏻 and look forward to your next one.
I just ordered 3 pieces to get free shipping to Norway. Might sell one and keep one for backup. I think it sounds really good and is a good solution to reduce handling noise.
Interesting setup. Does this fix the audio issue when you connect the DJI Mic 2 via bluetooth to an iPhone? I am covering an adventure race in September and we are looking to do a simple run and gun setup for doing quick clips to social media. Great video!!!
This seems to be hard to get in Australia. But I have four of the very broadly similar DJI Osmo FM-15 Fleximic anyway. Why four?. I have no idea... but tomorrow I will see how they go with the Mic 2.
So are you saying....if you use this with mics like a DJI Mic 2 or rode wireless pro that could record 32bit internally would still record 32bit internally using this lav mic without the receiver hookup?
I recently have been thinking of doing something like this as an alternative to the Antlion Modmic. Instead of getting a Modmic only for pc, you can use the wireless mics for other purposes haha
Love the video. Does it clip easily? I am thinking about purchasing one to record a moving car engine. It would be connected to a rode wireless pro using 32 bit float. Is the movo acm-400 the same diaphragm?
That thing is perfect!! I have the rode stick that you can clip the transmitter to, but it makes me feel like a reporter. Holding the small transmitter or lav mic looks equally stupid. This solution splits the difference - and the audio actually sounds really good!! Ordered via your affiliate link...
Howzit going, Wayne! For past couple months, have been browsing around, checking on lavalier headsets, like fitness instructors/seminar speakers. Came across Pyle Audio/Headset microphone,
Just received mine! Thanks for the recommendation. It works with the Zoom f2 and it sounds good. Is the movo possible with the Osmo pocket 3 wireless transmitter? I tried but no luck.
I just got this M101 and with my DJI Mic 1, the volume is very low compared to the onboard mic. Did you need to change your gain settings to boost the volume? Thanks.
Hi Wayne, I’ve been binging your videos and really enjoy your style. I found you because I was searching DJI mic videos after I got my pocket 3 creator combo. I just picked this mic up after watching the video, I’m constantly impressed how well you make the simplest mics sound. Any tips on how you clean up the audio in post? I typically just add a multiband compressor, graphic equalizer 10 bands and a hard limiter at -6db for all my videos(just TH-cam talking videos). Any other tips for how you get this Movo mic to sound so good?
Wow, as a location sound person who generally stays away from these cheap prosumer products, this does a good DPA 4098 impression but in an Omni pattern (omnigoose clone?)
I thought you were about to say when. I was searching for a mic “ have and to hold” similar to traditional wedding vows. LOL. Great idea and great video as always
I don't understand how 'is a 7 year old microphone' means it somehow has a lower bar for audio quality. (Not that I think it sounds bad, it sounds good to me) Considering that the most popular and desired mics are decades old.
Hi Wayne, I bought one of these and I am having trouble connecting this to my DJI MIC 2 Transmitter. I have the pocket 3 creator combo and the pocket 3 shows the green bar receiving signal from my Mic 2 but when I connect the MV-M101 the green bar goes down and the pocket 3 isn't getting any signal from the Mic 2 anymore. Any tips on how to get this connected to my Mic 2 properly? Thanks in advance!
Here are some ways to troubleshoot. Do an internal recording on your Mic 2 TX with the MV-M101 connected to see if it works in that capacity. You can also try a different mic with your TX to see if it's a bad M101. Conversely, try the M101 directly into a camera to see if it works that way. Lastly, I was able to replicate your situation with my Action 4, if my M101 wasn't fully plugged in. The locking ring on the mic can be pushed all the way up to allow the connector to be fully inserted into the TX. I also set my Action 4 TX gain to +6 via the PRO mic setting in camera. Hope this helps!
@@WayneRECs Hi Wayne, thanks for your reply. I tested the microphone out today with my DJI Mic 1 set and it worked fine. I connected the DJI Mic 1 receiver to my cellphone and was able to record a video with the M101 connected to the transmitter. However, I then tried to do an internal recording with my DJI Mic 2 after I confirmed the M101 was not faulty. It still didn't work. I even recorded internally with the DJI mic 2 without the m101 then plugged in the m101 and then again removed it. When I listened to the file I can hear myself up until I plugged the m101 in and then it was dead silent, once I removed it again the mic was picking up my voice. I know the mic 2 is good because I have a Shure MVL lav mic with a TRRS to TRS adaptor that works perfectly with it. Very strange to say the least. Also as a side note I noticed that when removing the m101 from both my DJI Mic 1 and Mic 2 it doesn't seem to fit tightly into it. My suspicion is the screw joint might be preventing it from seating correctly. I just can't seem to understand how you got yours to work with a mic 2. Very weird.
Wayne, can you help me out here? Got this M101 and on the DJI Mic 1 transmitter, it's really low volume. Even cranking the gain doesn't help a lot. Did I get a clunker? What sort of the gain settings do you need to use on the DJI Mic 1? Thanks!
Hmm, I had my Mic 2 TX gain set to +9. I've gotten usable signals from every device I've tried. Have you tried your mic in a different device? Even a camera's 3.5mm TRS mic input should produce a good signal. I don't have a mic 1 so I can't replicate your experience.
@@WayneRECs Good to know that you've set your gain to +9. I was at my usual TX +2 and wasn't getting much of a signal. I was concerned that running +9 would introduce distortion and breakup but your audio sounds great. Thanks for the help!
Okay, finally figured out my issue with this. The locking collar on the mic kept the jack from fully inserting into my DJI Mic 1 transmitter. Some people are lucky and theirs works fine, but I had problems getting a good connection. The fix? I got a M to F 3.5" adapter plug for a few bucks. Just an extension basically, but it doesn't interfere with the locking nut. #win
Hey thanks for the great vid. Would it sound just as good when connected directly to the Action 4 using an usb type c converter? I mean compared with being connected to the DJI Mic 2.
It sounds great with my Action 4 using a BOYA BY-K4 adapter. However, if you're looking for a moto specific model, check out the Movo ACM400 instead. Double clips for mounting, extended TRS cable and specific designed for motovlogging.
