I'm in my early 50s. I have wonderful memories of Farrell's 🍧🍦🍨 and celebrating my birthday there. I'm glad that I was born when I was born. I enjoyed he 80s soooo much!
Farrells was the bomb in the 70s. Loved going there on my birthday. Had one in Metro Center Mall in Phoenix. The Mall was just demolished for new growth and light rail train.
A lot of these were regional places. The only ones I remember from these in malls where I grew up in GA was chick fil a, Sbarro, magic pan and tcby. I never remember Bonanza being in a mall they were always stand alone restaurants.
35+ yrs after the last time I ate there as a kid, York Steakhouse brings back good memories. The restsurant ALWAYS smelled sooooo good. For the price, it was fantastic.
Sbarro recently reopened in many food courts where they closed. Panda Express, Chick fil a, and A&W still have many mall locations although they are primarily focused on stand alone drive thrus. Ruby Tuesday used to have a lot of mall locations, now there are few stores left at all. Olga’s Kitchen was in almost every mall in Michigan, now they only exist in strip malls.
Just another example of the richness and variety of 80s living that went right across the board for all aspects of life. I've been struggling for years, to try to describe what it feels like living today, compared to the way everything was back in the 70s and 80s. A dead, barren, wasteland is the only thing I can come up with. Just simply, a LACK, of ABSOLUTELY, EVERYTHING. An absolutely, horrid time to be alive.
@@ivanj.conway9919 I know man. You Just gotta push through it. I keep telling myself that " atleast I was able to be apart of and enjoy the 80s and 90s time periods " I feel so sorry for today's youth. If we're all here then we all are missing those times. My people. Thank goodness for TH-cam and channels like this. I spent this year watching old 80s and 90s Halloween AND Christmas nostalgia commercials and it helps...ALOT Sighsss.....😒
@@jrod8574 : Hey Brother, thanks for the reply and encouragement. Much appreciated. I'm turning 60 this coming Summer and I simply, cannot deal with it. Surreal does not even, begin to describe how that feels, as on the inside I am exactly, the same as I was in my 20s. I have not aged one iota, from my late teens / early 20s on the inside; so to see my body aging and changing the way it is doing, is really, tough to have to accept. So now, with every passing year, I understand better, why some older people become so crousty and grumpy as they do. You have to get there yourself, before you can understand and appreciate it better. We kids of the 70s and 80s had so much fire and energy in our bones we will not go into that dark night quietly, for sure. I guess, I can include the kids of the 60s as well, though I was born in 65 myself, as it was the same culture and mentality, overall. Three of the greatest decades in recorded history, I think, the 60s, 70s and 80s, for a whole, host of different, reasons. It was an absolute, EXPLOSION, of Pop Culture, right across the board. Check out almost, anything from these decades and I guarantee you it was BETTER, than ANYTHING, being pumped out over the past 25 plus, odd, years. Can somebody explain to me what happened when we hit the year 2000? When the New Millennium dawned? As everything went downhill big time, from that point on, it seems. What changed within our collective, mentalities that caused this to happen? I simply, don't understand this, yet on another level, I do to some degree, and know who to blame it on, as well. But why is it continuing? We know it is not a healthy direction we are going, yet we seem to be doing nothing to stop it and change things around, again. Everything we deemed rich, vibrant and that which actually, added to the quality of life, kids today, see as clutter, distracting, confining, gloomy, busy, overpowering, and so forth. They seem to have the complete, opposite attitude toward everything, and I mean, EVERYTHING, from the attitude that the kids throughout these decades had. It's so, insanely, peculiar. They seem to be this strange species of human that I simply, do not get, at all. The result is, they are ripping everything away from life for everyone, so that even, my generation, myself for sure, find this particular, period almost, impossible to live through. I find absolutely, no joy in anything anymore, and it is not merely, because I'm getting older, it really, is not. For me personally, I REALLY, get EMOTIONAL, now, when I see anything from the 70s and 80s in particular, and again, it is not only, because it represents my childhood and youth but also, because I can PLAINLY, see the RICHNESS and VIBRANCY, in EVERYTHING, from this time period. Everything, it actually, intoxicates your senses just from the visuals, alone. How can kids today, look at these old images and watch these videos from this time period and not want the same thing themselves? I honestly, simply, don't understand this. But actually, some do, from comments I've been reading in recent years. Yet when it comes to their bloody, GAMING, world, they cannot have it rich and vibrant enough, it seems. They put all their energy into this fake world, and completely, ignore the REAL, world they ACTUALLY, live in. Man, what an odd and strange time we live in. And it simply, has to change around soon, as we really, cannot go much further down this road, as there is almost, nothing more to strip away from society any longer. I mean, really; how much more barren and dead can we make it than it already is?! Correct? Warmest Wishes. Best of 2025. Out For Now. 😒🙂🖐🏼😔
Hey, there’s is one restaurant you forgot, Furs Cafeteria!! Y’all remember that?! You had to grab a tray and pick your veggies, potatoes, fries or whatever your little heart desired and the person behind the counter would hand it to you to put on your tray! Then you could go up as many times as you wish. I went there probably about eight years ago, It was one of the last remaining furs in Arvada, Colorado, unless there’s still some open, I have no idea. They didn’t have the greatest food, but it was pretty nostalgic to me because I have been going there since I was a little girl. The 80s were a great time to be a kid!! I used to love going to Bonanza, when my parents would take my siblings and I here, we would always get the all you could eat salad bar, plus the little popcorn shrimp Lol.. These are some fun videos to look back on and one thing I didn’t know they had was a panda express in the mall in the 80s, I do not remember that at all, good times though!! 😃💯♥️♥️
Back in the eatly 1970s, Houston had a 🍔 joint called Corky's. They sold burgers for .10/ea. Then McDonald's moved in, and that was the end for Corky's. We already had Burger King, but McDonald's was all the rage back in the day. I think we knew how to have more fun back then❣️😂
All American Burger still exists in a stand alone building in Massapequa, NY and is still as popular as it always was. Was it ever inside a Mall? I thought this was its original and only location. It’s iconic for sure.
I believe Orange Julius was bought out by Dairy Queen, many of their locations offer it...and they do still have several mall locations for it. S'barro is still around in a lot of places, especially malls. Chick-Fil-A still has a LOT of mall locations as well as their own ones. A&W is also still around, though less of their mall locations...but they've been reopening more locations again. They kind of got screwed over when they were handled by Yum! Brands which combined them with other stores for their combo ones, but then most of those because the other half. Panda Express still has several mall locations along with their own ones as well.
I just fed my employees Sbarros a couple of weeks ago at the local mall when I managed the Santa photo set, that is next door to Orange Julius/Dairy Queen, which is across the hall from Chick-fil-A.
Sbarro is not unknown in the Philippines, such as in Cebu city (center of the Philippines). I do not know if it is there now but I was last at one back in 2018 inside the Robinsons Fuente mall there & one of the few convenient places in Cebu where I could get a half way decent salad. The other place to get an OK salad was in Shakey's also in Robinsons Mall, but on the other side of Fuente Osmeña Circle (there are two separate Robinsons mall sections) inside the Robinsons Cybergate mall.
I was a total mall rat in the 80's and experienced very few of these in a mall. A lot of the concepts look familiar, so maybe they had different regional names, like Hardee's and Carl's Jr. Or was it Bob's Big Boy?🤔
The thumbnail says Sbarro isn't around any more and yet I just at one in the Hampton Roads area two weeks ago!!!!!!! Chick-fil-a is still in malls!!!! Just ate at one a few months ago!!! What the chocolate fudge????
I grew up in this time period the mall was THE place to hang out and many of these I've never even heard of.
Sbarro is still around!!
@@alybrown8246 and still has the very best calzone !
give me a peperoni Sbarro pizza and an Orange Julius ... Totally
We still have a Sbarro, Chick-Fil-A and A&W at Mall Of America!
