Hand-held can openers don't slop the liquid all over the place when they finish cutting. So tired of electric can openers doing that. If not for my arthritis, I'd still be using a manual one.
Unfortunately, today's appliances (including vacuum) are not built to last a long time like they used to be in the '60s-'80s. This is because of a 'planned obsolence"
Ummmm electric coil stoves are still sold and used. We don't have gas lines in our city, so everything is electric. I wouldn't dare buy a glass top as I use cast iron pots and pans.
The asbestos usage for the formica laminate countertops is the main reason they were produced less because workers in those facilities got cancer from working around such hazardous stuff. The central vac system I've always appreciated and definitely the mounted iron board closet whether built into the wall or a cabinet added like we did in our home.
I've always wanted a central vacuum! My college library had one and it was marvelous. No hot exhaust blowing on you when you vacuumed and incredible suction.
I adore linoleum floors and always have. I will take linoleum over any popular flooring that's out there right now! Linoleum floors were comfortable and always had character.💜
I remember having a metal breadbox in the kitchen in the 70s. But my parents had 3 kids and we went through a loaf per week, so there was no need to refrigerate bread or rolls.
For all the time and talk about built-in flour sifters, I didn't see the first one! All that was shown were hand sifters. I grew up in a farmhouse built in 1902. It had a built-in sifter. You didn't add flour to it when "you just needed some flour." You opened the cupboard door, and the bin tilted out towards you. It held 10-12 lbs of flour at a time that stayed there. The sifter was built into the bottom of the bin (there was usually an open shelf below this wall cupboard). When you needed flour, you set your bowl on the shelf and cranked the sifter handle and voila! Your sifted flour fell into your bowl. And you knew how many cranks it took to get the appro measure of flour.
The kitchen in my apartments that was remodeled 10 years ago still has most of that. Linoleum floor, although it has a tile pattern printed on the linoleum. Formica countertops or something similar. My brand new oven has coil burners. I'm not sure what a central vacuum system has to do with a kitchen, but I'm pretty sure it's a modern invention not old.
Hmmm.... My grandma was born in 1911. She remembered the icebox and yet she sure liked the convenience of her Amana refrigerator. I just don't think people nowadays have the time to rely on such old tech as blocks of ice and a catch pan that will overflow if it isn't monitored.
While I miss seeing a lot of these items in my Grandparent's and Great Grandparent's kitchens, the background music played during this video has me wanting to stick icepicks in my ears.
I couldn't cook without my whisk. I use it nearly every day. They didn't show the hand beaters I grew up with. Double beaters with a handle on top, you cranked a wheel with your right hand to make the beaters twirl.
I wished at a restaurant with a dumb waiter for bringing hot food up to the second floor and send the dirty dishes down to be washed. I’m sorry, this music gave me a headache. 🤕
You didn't show the egg beater you were describing which took both hands to use and was a HUGE pain in the butt. I wouldn't get another one if i was paid to take it. The only place i have ever seen a central vacuum system was in a 1980's motor home.
I remember that my grandma had a metal bread box. She also had a matching foil, wax paper, and plastic wrap holder.
That 8 second music loop going for 21 minutes is a bit maddening
I STILL USE A HAND HELD CAN OPENER

1:53 The ice box "drip pan" was no problem, if you had dogs. It was their drinking bowl.
2:46 Hot pans WERE a problem for Formica ... they'd burn the Formica FOREVER.
Not a single one of those shown was a "built in" flour sifter! They were all handheld like I have in my cupboard now
I call it bait and switch.
Unfortunately, today's appliances (including vacuum) are not built to last a long time like they used to be in the '60s-'80s. This is because of a 'planned obsolence"
It's called plastic laminate. Formica is a brand name, just like Wilsonart and Pionite.
Ummmm electric coil stoves are still sold and used. We don't have gas lines in our city, so everything is electric. I wouldn't dare buy a glass top as I use cast iron pots and pans.
I still have coils
I have coils too.
True, they aren’t obsolete.
Same here! And ditto on the cookware. For me, it's cast iron or nothing. And don't even get me started on "non-stick" cookware!
Linoleum is making a comeback. My 25-year-old formica counters look like new. My central vac is more powerful than any newer machine.

You forgot those milkman’s kiddos running around 😂😂
My 1988 house has Formica counters and linoleum kitchen floor😂. I do have my grandmothers sister. Squeeze the handle and I used it a lot

@ my grandmother’s home had a had a built-in sifter. She made biscuits all the time. Wonderful memories.
@marybethfrain7165 Nothing like homemade biscuits made with love!! ❤️❤️

I Remember A House That had a Laundry Chute 11:58
I'd kill for a chute and a built in ironing board for that matter 😁

Interesting/informative/entertaining 😉. Vaguely remember the milk man delivery.
2:40 Um, those aren't pictures of Formica.
While I miss seeing a lot of these items in my Grandparent's and Great Grandparent's kitchens, the background music played during this video has me wanting to stick icepicks in my ears.
@ 5:23 Mom and Dad built our house in 1960 and *it* had a milk door.
When I was growing up people with electric stoves were far and few between where I lived. Gas was everyone's favorite. It still is lol.
0:50 Back in the '50s, everybody had colorful Asbestos floor tile.
Not all linoleum had asbestos though.
@@yootoobsuks4210 Um, Linoleum flooring is not the same as asbestos tiles.
Uk has Formica and Lino still . We never had central vacuum systems wish we did .
That's interesting. And just recently, WM has those manual beaters! I actually picked one up before Christmas cause I thought that's neat to have.
I couldn't cook without my whisk. I use it nearly every day. They didn't show the hand beaters I grew up with. Double beaters with a handle on top, you cranked a wheel with your right hand to make the beaters twirl.
I HAVE FORMICA COUNTER TOPS AND ELECTRIC COIL STOVE IN MY KITCHEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’d bet if someone counted the times the narration said the word “sleek” it’d be triple digits 😂😂😂😂
Unfortunate that the pictures did not match the item being discussed. Most of these were part of my Grandmother’s and Mom’s kitchens.
I wished at a restaurant with a dumb waiter for bringing hot food up to the second floor and send the dirty dishes down to be washed.
I’m sorry, this music gave me a headache. 🤕
Can openers are becoming obsolete because most cans nowadays are opened with pull tabs, much more convenient.
You didn't show the egg beater you were describing which took both hands to use and was a HUGE pain in the butt. I wouldn't get another one if i was paid to take it. The only place i have ever seen a central vacuum system was in a 1980's motor home.
The background repeating made this almost impossible to enjoy. That was not needed.
Those horns blaring every 3.5 seconds! 🙉
@bonnieplasha4684 yes! I love the content but the background music takes away from it.
Electric stove are still sold in store
I'll only use a coiled stoves. I hate the smooth topped ones.
Central vacuums are still there.
“Cheap Plastic Vacuum” They show a Kirby! Those aren’t cheap!
I know house with a butler's pantry, built about 10 years ago now.
now we have induction stove tops
I use my grandmothers cast-iron pans on my glass top stove. Just have to be careful.
Most modern appliances are extremely UGLY.
I hated those electric coils! Don't want a induction top either...I want gas!
My Dutch pie safe is a shoe cupboard .
What isthat Gods-awful noise behind the narration?
Voted down!
Do NOT bring back linoleum!
Tile countertops are complete breeding ground for bacteria.
The music is too much!
That background music finally drove me away. Repetitive AF, man.
Ridiculous.
your intonation is grating dude. stop with the rising inflection at the end of every sentence. it isn't a question.
why's the orator so whiney about modern conveniences?
First!
