@Ripal Shah , Sir, based on my personal experience, even daily ware items like Mangla sutra (Telugu / Tamil Mangala sutra is bit heavy) and daily ware bangles are also stopped and then asked to pay fine of 40% of total value. And this happened in Aug 2023 / Hyd Airport; Flight from Singapore to India.

I am also curious to know if these rules are applicable to foreigners/tourists and foreigners who hold OCI (ex: UK citizen with OCI) Is a gold watch considered daily use or is this also subject to import tax customs? I know someone who had a situation where they passed immigration and then everyone had to have their hand baggage scanned and was asked to put all watches, jewellery wallet etc in the hand bag. When the scan happened the guy stopped my friend as he removed and kept his watch in his backpack. Then he was taken to customs and the scanning officer told the customs official that he carried the watch in the bag even though it was their instructions to put everything into the bag. What should have be the right way to have deal with this? The watch was purchased in the UK. My friend is a UK citizen with OCI. Hope this info is enough to seek an answer from you.

One should take Export certificate from airport in India while travelling to Australia for gold purchased and worn from India so that while coming back you have no problem with the customs.
